Inauguration of ZALC

The Department of Advanced Zoology started the year’s activities with inauguration of ZALC–

Zoologists Association of Loyola College on 5th August 2016 in Lawrence Sundaram

Auditorium. The chief gust Dr.K.V.Peter, Former Vice Chancellor of Kerala Agricultural

University delivered an inaugural address. The agenda of ZALC 2016-17 was put forward by

President Dr.S.Vincent.The office bearers of ZALC took charge in the presence of our Head,

Dr.J.M.V.Kalaiarasi, Vice-president Dr.D.Robert Selvam.

Participation of ZALC in Union Activity-Teachers Day

Teachers’ day celebration was held on 2nd September 2016 in Bertram Hall. The students

wished our teachers and took them to the programme venue in a grand traditional manner

with the beat of Thaara-Thappattai.

Guest lecture

A guest lecture was organized on 12th September, 2016 in smart class room

Dr. Vahiethia Constantine, delivered the lecture.

The students of III UG, I & II PG actively took part in the lecture.

Ovations 2016

Ovations is an inter-departmental cultural extravaganza, organized by the Loyola Students

Union. It was held on 16 & 17th September 2016. The students of the Dept of Advanced

Zoology and Biotechnology participated in various cultural events and won prizes in Light

Music, Rangoli, Face Painting and Debate. They represented our department in the finals

of Folk Dance & Theme Dance events. 3rd place in Light Music, 2nd place in Debate, 3rd place

in Rangoli and 3rd place in Face Painting

Achievements in Other Colleges

The students of our department participated in many other college cultural

competitions and won many prizes.

Our students participated in FAUNA FEST'16, organized by Ethiraj College on 15th

September 2016 and won the Overall Championship.

The students participated in MICROMATSURI 2K16, held in DG Vaishnav College

on 28th September 2016 and won prizes in many events.

Our students are the Overall Champions in SYNAPSE 2016-17 organized by Stella Maris

College.

The students of our department participated in GO WILD 2k17, an inter-collegiate

department cultural of Madras Christian College held on 1st March, 2017 and

bagged the Overall Championship.

Annual Sports Day 2017

Annual Sports Day of Loyola College (Shift-1) was held on 18th February, 2017.

The students represented our department in many events and won prizes in many

games.

They are the Champions in Table Tennis, Runners up in Chess and 3rd place in Cricket.

The students of our department performed well in many track events and placed 4th

in Long Jump, 5th in 5000metres and 1500 metres.

The students took part in March past held on sports day. Mr.A.Arun Kumar, Sports

Secretary was the flag bearer of our department and Miss.Deepa was the placard

holder and the students performed well under the guidance of Dr.M.Raja and

Dr.V.Raja.

In staff slow bike race, Dr.V.Pushpa Rani got the 1st place.

Endowment lecture

Rev.Dr.Joseph Inchackal Endowment Lecture was instituted in the year 1992 by

Dr.S.John William.The Endowment Lecture was organized on 22nd February

2017.Dr.K.T.Dilli, Chief-Librarian of Loyola College was the speaker and delivered the

Endowment Lecture on "IT RESOURCE FOR SCIENCE".

Dr.V.Mohan & Dr.V.A.Murthy Endowment Lecture was instituted by Dr.T.Ambrose in

the year 1996.The Endowment Lecture for this year was organized on 22nd February

2017. Dr.C.Emmanuel, Director-Academics and Research, Global Health City was the

speaker and delivered the Endowment Lecture on "Molecular Medicine" .

Rev. Dr. M. Albert William Endowment Lecture was instituted in the year 1992 by

Dr.S.John William. The Endowment Lecture for this year was organized on 23rd March

2017.

Rev. Dr. M. Albert William,Secretary –Arul Anandar College, Karumathur, Madurai was

the speaker and delivered the Endowment Lecture on "Blood flow images of vessels in

living organs using cross-sectional concentration curves”.

Department Festival

The inter-collegiate department Festival was organized by the Department of Advanced

Zoology and Biotechnology.GENESIS 2K17 was held on 24th February 2017.

Dr.T.Ambrose, Former HoD of our department was the chief guest for the inauguration.

Dr.D.Sudarsanam was the chief guest for the valedictory function Various colleges were

invited and nearly 10 colleges participated in various events organized by our department.

Valedictory function

The valedictory function of ZALC 2016 -2017 held on 20th March 2017. Dr. M. C. John Milton

will take up the chair as the new President of ZALC.
