PROGRAMMES & EVENTS

2017-18

1. Poster Exhibition and installation of ‘BIRD BATH’ on March 20th, 2018 – World

Sparrow Day.

2. Release of the manuscript magazine Nautilus of zoology department, by the principal Dr.

Aype Thomas P during the valedictory programme held on March 6th

3. All Kerala Inter Collegiate Debate Competition on Greening Kerala: Dream or

Reality for Rev. Fr. Jacob Kariyatty Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy was conducted by

the Department of Zoology, Bharata Mata College Thrikkakara on Saturday 6th January

2018.

4. 19 students of I B.Sc Zoology accompanied by two teachers visited Theruvoram on 18th

December 2017 and celebrated Christmas with the inmates of the Government Funded

rehabilitation centre.

5. An interschool quiz competition for Windermere Ever Rolling Trophy was conducted

by the department of zoology and Friends of Fauns Nature club on 17.10.2017. St.

Antony’s HSS, Kacherippady, Ernakulam won the first prize and the ever rolling trophy.

IInd and IIIrd positions were secured by the students of Cardinal Higher Secondary School.

Prof. Francis Joseph A J (Former HOD of zoology department) was the quiz master.

6. Zoology Association and Friends Of Fauna Nature club (FOF, an extension wing of

zoology association) was inaugurated on 15.09.2017 by Prof. Francis Joseph A. J.

(Former HOD of zoology department).

7. In connection with ‘World Population Day (July 11th), an intradepartmental Population

Quiz was conducted on 07.2017 in the zoology lab. One team each from I DC, II DC and

III DC comprising 6 students each participated in the competition.

8. Toppers (A+ & A grade holders) in Zoology of 2017 pass out batch were felicitated on

21.06.2017 at 2:00pm in the Library Hall.

9. Dr. Shyamala K. V, Retd. Principal of Govt. Arts and Science College, Kozhinjampara,

Palakkad Dist delivered on ‘Nature and Earthmanship’ on 21.06.2017 in connection with

the celebration of World Environment Day.

10. ‘ZOOQUEST’, a weekly quiz programme was re-launched on 12.06.2017.

11. Poster Exhibition was held by Zoology dept. on 05.06.2017 which showcased the

necessity of conserving and preserving our ‘Mother Nature’ in connection with World

Environment Day.

12. Training Programme on ‘Aquaponics and Fish Farming’ for the final year B.Sc

Zoology students on 14.12.2017.

EXTENSION/OUTREACH: 2017-18

Visit to Theruvoram, a rehabilitation centre on 18th December 2017

As part of extension activity of Zoology department, on behalf of Friends Of Fauna (FOF)

nature club, final year zoology students gave awareness classes to public in different places on

the theme “Connecting People to Nature” during their study tour to Wayanad-Coorg-Mysore.

ENCON CLUB (2017-18)

In connection with Oil and Gas Conservation Mass Awareness Campaign 2018 ENCON Club

and the zoology department conducted Inter department Painting and ESSAY writing

competitionson 12thFebruary and Inter department QUIZ Competition on 15thFebruary 2018.

Cash Prizes and Certificates to the winners were sponsored by BPCL Kochi Refinery. Students

of Botany, Commerce (Regular) and Physics departments won Ist, IInd and IIIrd Prizes

respectively in the Quiz competition.

BMC QUIZ CLUB

In connection with Independence Day, an interdepartmental Quiz competition was conducted by

BMC Quiz Club on 16.08.2017. Retired Head of the Department of Zoology, Prof. Francis

Joseph A. J. was the quiz master. Mr. Siby Mathew, an alumnus of zoology department (1992-95

batch) assisted him. 15 teams participated in the competition. Department of Physics won I st

prize and the Botany department secured IInd and IIIrd positions respectively.

Harishankar P.S and Pranav Jayan of II B.Sc Botany who represented ENCON Club of Bharata Mata

College won First Prize in the Inter Collegiate ENERGY QUEST-2018, State Level Encon Club

Competition conducted by BPCL Kochi Refinery on 9th February 2018.

Winners of the interdepartmental quiz competition conducted by BMC Quiz club

(16.08.2017) with the Quiz Master and the Faculty members of zoology department.

An intracollegiate KSEB Power Quiz competition was conducted on 25.10.2017 by KSEB

Officer’s Association. Five officials from KSEB had come and conducted the Preliminary round

of Quiz. 32 students participated in the competition. Harisankar P S (II Botany) and Paul Thomas

(II Physics) secured first and second positions respectively and qualified to participate in the

district level competition. Principal Dr. Aype Thomas P gave away the prizes to the winners.

BMC Quiz team comprising Harisankar P S and Paul Thomas won First prize in the district

level competition conducted at Ernakulam Girls HSS on 16.11.2017 and qualified to take part in

the Zonal competition.
