Zoom for Canvas Integra on  

Prerequisites  Create a Zoom account by registering at h ps://tarleton.zoom.us .  Make sure that the email address registered in your Zoom 

and Canvas accounts match. 

The Zoom for Canvas Integra on supports the ability to:  schedule mee ngs  view and manage upcoming mee ngs  view mee ng history  record and share mee ngs  join mee ngs   communicate and coordinate mee ngs using the Canvas calendar and conversa ons features 

Add Zoom to the Course Menu  In the Course Menu, click the Se ngs link.  Click the Naviga on tab.  Find the Zoom app, located in the bo om sec on, which indicates that it is currently hidden. 

Drag the Zoom app to the top sec on, which indicates that it will be visible.  Scroll to the bo om of the page and click on Save.  Zoom will then appear on the Course Menu and will be visible to students.  NOTE: The first  me you access Zoom through Canvas, you will see a similar dialog box where you will authorize the 

connec on between your two accounts.

Schedule a Single Mee ng Zoom Mee ngs can be scheduled from within a Canvas Course. Users access the Zoom for Canvas tool from the naviga on area for the course. The landing page shows informa on on upcoming mee ngs and previous mee ngs. Any user with the correct per-missions will see the Schedule a New Mee ng bu on. 

Click the Schedule a New Mee ng bu on to display the Schedule a Mee ng page.

Schedule a Recurring Mee ng

Zoom supports recurring mee ngs that sync with Canvas Calendar. Enable the Recurring mee ng checkbox if you need to schedule daily, weekly, or monthly recurrences of a mee ng. When this checkbox is enabled, you see the Recurrence, Frequency, and Count fields, where you can customize the number of mee ngs and how frequently they occur. 

You may view the individual instances of a recurring mee ng on the Upcoming Mee ngs tab. The following example shows that 

“Mathema cal Founda ons of Compu ng” is a daily mee ng with 3 occurrences. 

Delete a Mee ng

Only the mee ng creator can delete a mee ng that has been created using the Zoom for Canvas tool. 

To delete a mee ng 

1.  On the Upcoming Mee ng list, click Delete next to the mee ng to be deleted. 

2.  Click OK in the pop-up dialog to confirm that the mee ng is to be deleted. 

The event is removed from the Canvas calendar, and a new conversa on no fies course members that the mee ng has been de-leted.

Display Upcoming Mee ngs The Upcoming Mee ngs tab displays the list of upcoming mee ngs when users click the Zoom link. NOTE: All  me related informa on in Zoom is based on the  me zone of the Canvas user’s Account Profile, rather than the  me zone specified in the user’s Zoom account 

 Display Previous Mee ngs To see the list of previous mee ngs, users can click the Previous Mee ngs tab. 

 

Start a Mee ng Users who have a Zoom Account can click Start to launch a scheduled mee ng. 

 

 

Zoom for Canvas Integra on  

Automa cally Create Mee ng No fica ons Canvas users are no fied via a Canvas conversa on message and a Canvas calendar event when a mee ng is created. If a mee ng is deleted, Canvas users receive a Canvas conversa on message and the mee ng is removed from their Canvas calendar. 

When you schedule a mee ng, the Canvas Calendar is updated as shown in the following example: 

In this example, the calendar event ‘Problem-Solving for the CS Technical Interview” belongs to the Math Club course. You can click 

an item in the CALENDARS pane (the Math Club item, in this example) to filter events.

The Agenda displays events with a list format. 

Note that when you schedule a recurring mee ng, each occurrence is an independent event that is not linked to other instances of the mee ng. This means that if you need to modify all instances of a mee ng, each event must be edited individually. 

The following example shows a weekly recurring event. 

People enrolled in the course receive a Canvas conversa on message in their Canvas Inbox and can click the Join link to start or join the mee ng at the scheduled  me.

Recording a Mee ng Tarleton’s Zoom contract only allows for very limited mee ng recording, so we ask that you use local recording instead.  Local recording allows users to record mee ng video and audio locally to a computer. The recorded files can be uploaded to Canvas Studio, close cap oned, and shared with your class.  There are two main ways to record a mee ng:  

When scheduling a mee ng, expand the Advanced Op ons drop-down near the bo om of the scheduling screen.  Click on Automa cally record mee ng and the finish the scheduling process as usual. 

During a mee ng, you can click on the manual record bu on to begin recording. 

The Record Bu on turns into the Pause/Stop Recording Bu ons to use when you are ready to wrap up your video. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When the mee ng is over, a prompt will appear indica ng that the video is being converted to a viewable format and saved to the local computer.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Zoom will create a folder on your computer that will contain several files.  You will want to use the file ending in .mp4 to upload to Canvas using the Canvas Studio tool. Once it is saved in the Studio library, it can be cap oned and added to any course.
