z/OS on Cloud Next Steps Overview
Much of the Cloud, Mobile and Social innovation is starting to be enabled by what is called “systems of engagement” that leverages ubiquitous cloud computing models, pervasive tooling and mobile access to bridge traditional IT “Systems of Record” to drive interactions closer to the customers and leverage relationships that are enabled by this shift.
The opportunity to capture markets through optimized customer interaction is driving rapid innovation and iteration in the cloud leveraged by these new systems. At the same time, the infusion of intelligence in physical assets such as automobile, building systems, electrical utilities and traffic control systems, require models that can more easily scale to collect data and deliver content.
The rapid growth of next generation technologies
are supported seamlessly on z Systems
Systems of Record are characterized by being what we think of as z Systems today, transactional database, command and control. Systems of Record will be key in providing the data, security and availability needed for the new 24/7 requirements that come from Systems of Engagement.
Systems of engagement are the new technologies, and z Systems can support them just as well. Linux on z Systems is a fantastic platform that provides the security, availability and reliability of z Systems and supports Linux workloads.
Both components are needed to successfully implement new business requirements.
This e-guide will show you how a
cloud and service management
strategy that meets all your
constituents’ needs can be quickly
developed by connecting to the
mainframe.

A customer can put together the same solution by themselves
The “secret sauce” of Enterprise Cloud System is the integration.
Integration means:
Pre-loaded software – The software is installed and configured at IBM prior to delivery to customer
Pre-tested Server & Storage Configurations – The server and storage are put together at IBM and pre-tested together prior to shipment to ensure no missing parts
Single Order – The IBM salesperson orders all parts of solution as part of the same order
Single Simplified Contract – Instead of having separate contracts for server, storage, software and services, a single contract is provided to the customer to sign
Single Invoice – A single invoice is provided to the customer that covers all four components
Bottom Line Price – A single bottom line price is provided to the customer for full solution
Coordinated Planning & Delivery – All components of the solution are in one shipment and arrive at same time at the customer
IBM continues to invest in cloud capabilities on z Systems to deliver and support
our clients and our partner and ISV ecosystem.

z/OS on Cloud Next Steps Overview
Enterprises suffer huge consequences to the business if they
are not automated, requiring more human labor. Manual
solutions can represent a substantial penalty to the
organization’s bottom line. For many CIOs, much of the
annual budget will be allocated to operational staff expense.
Through automation, the focus of that investment can be
redirected to directly support business innovation in the form
of enhanced and new revenue-generating services.
Service Management solutions can play a key role in helping
organizations achieve operational automation by leveraging and
integrating existing tools, adding and adapting best-practice
processes, such as ITIL, ITOM, COBIT, and Six Sigma, as well as
assuring that closed-loop processes are in place across the full
service lifecycle.

Organizations are being asked to deliver more insight and
smarter outcomes to support increasing revenue and profit
while lowering business costs and risks.
Big Data, Mobile, Customer Interactions and Cloud are
fundamentally changing the traditional business landscape
and are having a significant impact on the direction of
enterprise analytics strategies. Big Data presents many new
sources of data, most notably, Social Media, which can
enrich our knowledge about situations, issues, customers,

ubiquity of mobile devices add location and time sensitivity to
analytics. Winning in today’s market not only requires
competitive product offerings but it also demands superior
customer interactions in order to attract, maintain and grow
the client base and ultimately improve business performance
– all of which requires analytics. Cloud has been identified
as the optimal way to reduce costs and complexity. Its ability
to virtualize data and services is changing the way analytics
are delivered and managed.
Finding the optimal software solutions and platform to
support a more business critical analytics strategy is vital.

Big Data Next Steps Overview
The Impact of Big Data on Analytics
Information is power….if you know how to
extract value and insights out of it. The
more that is known about a particular
issue, situation, product, organization or
individual the greater the likelihood of a
better, smarter decision and business
outcome. Volumes, varieties of data are
growing exponentially. Learn how to exploit
it.
The velocity at which organizations are expected to process data is
accelerating. Today the majority of business analytics are based on
information stored in enterprise data warehouses, operational data
stores and data marts fed mainly from transaction and operational
systems. This data is rich in value, is trusted and understood, as is
its provenance.
The big data paradigm focuses on combining transactional data
with many other sources of data such as social media, web logs,
emails, documents, multi-media, text messages, sensor information
providing a much richer, more complete view helping to augment
our knowledge of the world around us. Big data and business
analytics are symbiotic – without a big data approach analytics will
be less effective. Without a comprehensive analytics strategy the
benefit of Big Data may not be fully realized. And bringing all of
that together with transactional data in real time is paramount in
gaining the most competitive insight and optimal business
outcomes.

Smarter Outcomes
The business of analytics is undergoing a major
change and the status quo is no longer going to
suffice. To be successful organizations must address
the critical shifts taking place across the analytics
landscape, how these shifts impact their total strategy
and the changes they need to make in order to drive
innovation and more competitive insight.
With this evolution of analytics, there are more users
to support, more transactions to process and the
qualities of service surrounding analytics initiatives are
now more critical than ever in order to consistently
deliver the right insight, at the right time, to the right
users. This shift introduces a new set of non-functional
requirements that must be considered in every
analytics strategy – bringing platform choice to the
forefront of the conversation.

The need to access information on mobile devices is prevalent
everywhere. Customers demand access to your enterprise
from any device, anywhere, at any time. Employees require
real-time access to business information. There are three
times as many mobile phones in the world as there are
computers. But where is all this data? The fastest and most
cost-effective way for businesses to extend data to a mobile
channel is to leverage existing investments and locate the
processing where the data resides.
Businesses have made significant investments in developing
valuable assets that support core business functions running
on IBM z Systems. The result? A secure, reliable, and
scalable high-performance transaction-processing platform.
Mobile application enablement builds on accessing these
assets to improve the customer experience.
It’s been said that 80% of the world’s data resides

Build, test, and deploy mobile applications quickly to
existing enterprise data on the mainframe
DevOps for mobile provides a software delivery
strategy and a set of capabilities all
organizations need, to some degree, to build
and deploy quality mobile apps. The key
challenges businesses need to address are:
Collaboration across diverse teams responsible for
a mobile app. Organizations need to draw together
internal and external members, from LOB/digital
leaders responsible for the mobile app to the
development teams involved (mobile app, cloud,
back-end) to the end users;
Integration across tooling and phases of an agile
development process; and
Automation of processes required to rapidly build,
test, deploy, and assess mobile apps.
To help organizations meet these challenges, the IBM
MobileFirst platform – which runs on multiple platforms,
including Linux on z Systems – provides a world-class
mobile application development environment that enables
businesses to rapidly build, test, and deliver customer-
facing apps using state-of-the-art frameworks and tools.
While it’s the MobileFirst Platform Server that takes care of
managing mobile applications when deployed, it’s
integration with Rational Developer for z Systems, an
Eclipse-based environment, that speeds development time
by enabling agile methodologies integrated across teams
and platforms in easy-to-use tools.

Development tasks can be managed collaboratively with Rational Team
Concert, which also includes change management, source control, and build
management in a single application. This gives developers involved with the
tasks a complete and real-time view of ongoing activities whenever they want it.
Integrated tightly with the Rational tools are corresponding z/OS tools for both
CICS and Problem Determination, which aid in application configuration,
dependency management, deployment, performance, and more. These tools
enable continuous optimization during development and operations throughout
the application lifecycle.
z/OS Connect, a feature of the WebSphere Application Server Liberty profile for
z/OS, provides a simple, consistent, and secure way to discover and invoke
services on z/OS from mobile, cloud, and web apps. It uses standardized
interfaces and data, including RESTful APIs and JSON, making it easy for
developers to build web and mobile apps that access mainframe assets. It also
provides Audit Interceptor to write SMF 120.11 records capturing information
about the service request. The Authorization Interceptor provides a mechanism
to control access to z/OS Connect functionality. In addition, z/OS Connect is
available as part of IBM IMS, and both IBM CICS Transaction Server and IBM
CICS Transaction Gateway offer z/OS Connect-compatible JSON web services
to simplify the mobile enablement of mainframe assets.
The API Advantage
In today’s API economy, exposing APIs
to developers in a controlled manner is
essential, and IBM API Management
provides your organization the ability to
govern the complete API lifecycle for
creating, securing, and socializing API
usage. IBM WebSphere DataPower
provides enterprise integration across
both distributed and mainframe
architectures, and does so in a secure
manner through features such as the
DataPower Secure Connector. These
solutions enable your developers to
build mobile apps that simply and
securely integrate the mainframe
applications.

Although there is often a speed mismatch between
faster moving front-office and slower moving back-
office systems, delaying time to obtain feedback,
developers can leverage integrated and automated
functional testing to improve the quality of delivered
apps. To help your organization address this challenge,
IBM provides:
Rational Test Workbench. Provides continuous
testing and employs virtualized back-end services to
maintain agility and drive testing earlier in the cycle.
MobileFirst Quality Assurance. Automates cloud-
based mobile app testing with sentiment analysis
and metrics that deliver rapid, actionable feedback
directly from end users.
UrbanCode Release. Provides release management
and coordination platform that manages multiple
applications.
UrbanCode Deploy. Push button multi-platform
deployment, integrated with testing tools, to support
continuous integration. Deploy and rollback
incremental changes of mobile, mainframe and
distributed applications. It simplifies z/OS
application deployment by proving out of the box
support for clients to automate JCL submission and
plugins for CICS, DB2, IMS, and Batch.

Mobile
apps
Mobile is more than just another channel. It is
fundamentally changing the business
landscape and the way your company does
business. Here are just a couple of scenarios:
Executives want to stay connected to their business 24/7.
They need that insight whether they are at home, in an
airport, or in a cab on the way to a meeting. Is now the
right time to make that decision? Have sales in a region
reached a particular threshold? Has the market-shift
changed our outlook on that acquisition? Smart
connected devices have become the mobile office.
Mobile is driving real-time business analytics. Customers
can be in a retail store and the company and its
competitors know their browsing and purchase history, as
well as their physical location. These retailers have a
small window of opportunity to make customers an offer
they can’t refuse. So the back-office business analytics,
as well as the systems of records that support those
analytics, have to report in near real time to make that
system of engagement effective.
Big Data Drives Mobility
Enterprise users increasingly need access from anywhere to
the massive investment that organizations have made and
continue to make in business intelligence, and now big data.
It’s not enough for your salesperson in the field to check on
their customer’s order. They need to know the historical
patterns for that customer, and how they compare to other
customers, enterprise and industry benchmarks, and trends.

Optimize and increase speed Achieving continuous software delivery that enables you to seize market opportunities
and reduce time to customer feedback
Today’s enterprise applications are complex. While they provide
users with a modern interface that can fit literally into the palm of
their hands, applications still need to access back-end systems
and operational databases, as well as integrate with third-party
application programming interfaces (APIs), to provide the
business functionality customers demand.
DevOps is an approach for software delivery based on “lean”
and “agile” principles, in which all stakeholders — from line of
business to development, quality assurance and operations —
collaborate to deliver software more efficiently based on a
continuous feedback loop. Adopting DevOps capabilities and
principles can result in applications that are more efficient and
effective, with continuous process improvement, while helping
ensure that the changes and enhancements to the software are
based on real customer feedback.

Security Intelligence Next Steps Overview
Identify and authenticate users for access control to data,
applications and system resources on the mainframe
Identity and access management establishes
the basis for data protection, security auditing,
compliance reporting and threat detection.
The key capabilities include:
User identification
User authentication
Access control
Special privileges, roles and groups
A wide variety of users have access to applications and
data on the mainframe, often through distributed
applications. Management of these users must be from
“cradle-to-grave”, including user provisioning, de-
provisioning, self-service for routine tasks (i.e. password
resets), and automated tracking of access to critical
enterprise resources and commands.
The goal of user management is to provide access and
authorization control to prevent fraudulent use of
applications and data. This requires automated
management and risk-based enforcement of access control
policies across every application, data source and
operating system. User management also includes role-
based identity and access management that aligns users’
roles to their access capabilities, as well as separation of
duties and special privileges.
IBM helps organizations establish their identity and access
control foundation with z Systems security solutions such
as IBM Resource Access Control Facility and IBM Security
zSecure suite. There are additional enterprise wide
security solutions which manage user information across
multiple platforms to establish trust across the internet.

Security Intelligence Next Steps Overview
Big data represents a significant business opportunity by
analyzing increasing volumes and varieties of information
to gain deeper insight. It can also represent a big threat if
the proper security and privacy controls are not in place.
The goal of information protection is to reduce the
business risks and costs associated with this data by
helping prevent breaches for both data at rest and in
motion - whether by local or remote users, web and
mobile applications. Over the last 4 years attacks have
become more frequent and more sophisticated with spear
phishing , watering holes, malware, XSS and more.
Many attacks occur over long time periods. A recent study
found that while the period from initial attack to initial
compromise typically takes only seconds or minutes, and
the period from initial compromise to data extraction
typically takes minutes to hours, the period from
compromise to discovery in 98 percent of cases takes
weeks or even several months.
Effective information protection solutions require
sophisticated capabilities like real time threat monitoring
and prevention. privacy of sensitive information in test,
development and production environments, separation of
duties, managing inactive or orphan user accounts,
monitoring for inappropriate server configuration changes,
ensuing regulatory compliance and control. In addition, all
data must have an appropriate level of encryption and the
encryption keys properly managed.
Protect critical business data and sensitive
customer information for big data analytics
and mobile applications:

In motion across trusted or untrusted
network and communication lines
Protect critical data with military strength security

Today’s security environment is experiencing
rapid change on all fronts—in risks and
dangers from advanced and sophisticated
threats, technology innovations for a secure
computing platform, compliance and
governance strategies in response to
regulations and best practices, and business
needs to help ensure business
continuity and prevent financial loss.
In each of these areas, the centralized big data created and
collected by modern connected, intelligent infrastructures
must be kept secure. So must cloud environments, which
continue to grow and evolve. So must mobile applications,
which have rapidly entered widespread business use.
Regulatory requirements, such as the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Payment Card
Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Defense
Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical
Implementation Guides (STIGs) and other regulations
worldwide, must be met.
Security intelligence, along with automated threat analysis
and remediation, must be provided to help ensure maximum
visibility into activities within the operational environment. And
complexity must be reduced, with automated solutions that
are simple and cost-efficient to deploy and utilize, scalable
solutions that can keep up with enterprise growth, and
integrated solutions that can take the place of siloed point
products.
