InstallationThe power input end of the ZXR10 5900E is connected with a noise filter. The switchcentral ground is directly connected to the chassis, which is also called the chassisground (PGND). This chassis ground must be securely connected to the ground so thatthe faradic current and leaked electricity can be safely released to the ground. Thismethod enhances the resistance to electromagnetic interference of the switch. Thecorrect grounding methods are as follows:

1. If a grounding strip is available at the installation site, attach one end of theyellow/green earth wire of the switch to the grounding terminal on the grounding stripand tighten the captive nut, see Figure 3-36.

3.2.5 Optical Fiber

OverviewOptical fiber is a communication medium that uses a bundle of thin glass rods to transmitmodulated light signals. There are two types of optical fibers, single-mode optical fiber andmultimode optical fiber. Users can select any type as required.

l Multimode optical fiber: transmits signals by using multiple modes of light. It is usedfor short-distance transmission and is also called the 8.3/125 um fiber.

l Single-mode optical fiber: transmits signals by using a single mode of light. It is usedfor long-distance transmission and is also called the 50/125 um or 62.5/125 um fiber.

Each fiber cable is composed of the fiber core, cladding layer, buffer layer, strengtheninglayer (aramid yarn), and the outer jacket. Fiber core is the optical transmission componentlocated at the cable core. It is normally made of silicon or glass. The chemicalcompositions of the fiber core are partially different from those of the cladding layer, sothat the light entering at a specified angle would be reflected continuously by the fibercore and cladding layer. This means that light remains in the fiber core during the entiretransmission process.

For the cross-sectional area of a fiber cable, see Figure 3-42.

Laser Usage SafetyThe ZXR10 5900E is classified as type 1 laser equipment.

If any optional optical interface card is operating, it is recommended not to have direct eyecontact with the optical interfaces because the light beams are of high energy and mayhurt the retina.

Caution!

Any eye contact with the laser beam of the optical fiber may cause an eye injury.

Optical Fiber InstallationThere are two optical fibers for each ZXR10 5900E optical interface. One is used forreceiving packets and the other is used for sending packets. User can use single-modeoptical fibers or multimode optical fibers as required. For connector types at the two endsof optical fibers, refer to Table 3-39.

4.3 Cable InstallationThe ZXR10 5900E cables include the power cable, serial console cable, network cable, and optical fiber.

4.3.1 Installation Specifications and Steps

Installation Specificationsl Laying Specifications

à Power cables are straight and with smooth arcs at turning sections.

à No connecting or welding point exists in the middle of a power cable.

à The unnecessary part of a power cable is cut off, instead of being coiled.

à The bending radius at a turning section of a power cable is five times greater thanthe cable diameter.

à Power cables must be laid without crossing, coiling, or twisting.

à Before a signal cable is installed, a connectivity test must be implemented. Bothends of the signal cable are attached with marks or engineering tags.

à Power cables and signal cables are separated with a distance of at least 300 mm.Do not bind them together.

l Binding Specifications

à Power cables and signal cables are bound separately.

4-6

SJ-20150114102049-001|2015-03-10 (R1.0) ZTE Proprietary and Confidential

Page 67: ZXR105900ESeries - nova-minsk. · PDF fileZXR105900ESeries Easy-MaintenanceMPLSRoutingSwitch Hardware Manual ZTECORPORATION ... Ethernet switching boards are the core components of

Chapter 4 Hardware Installation

à The interval between binding power cable ties is 200 mm.

à Protect cables from being squeezed or dragged by turning devices (for example,a door), and binding is not allowed at turning sections.

à Cable fasteners are facing the same direction. Cut the excessive part evenly afterbinding.

l Upward Cabling Specification

With the upward cabling, cables are led out of the top of the DC power distributioncabinet to the top of each cabinet through a cable tray.

l Downward Cabling Specification

With the downward cabling, cables are led out of the bottom of the DC powerdistribution cabinet to the bottom of each cabinet through the antistatic floor.

Installation Steps1. Plan for the cabling path.

When planning for the cabling path, leave proper space for future expansion, so thatthe system can still operate properly after expansion.

2. Install protective earth cables and power cables.

Before installing power cables, ensure that the switch is properly grounded. For howto install the power cable, refer to 3.2.1 Power Cable. For how to install the protectiveearth cable, refer to 3.2.2 Protective Earth Cable.

3. Install signal cables.l Install the serial console cable.l Install network cables.l Install optical fibers.

For how to install the signal cables, refer to 3.2.3 Serial Console Cable, 3.2.4 NetworkCable, and 3.2.5 Optical Fiber.

4.3.2 Power-on and Power-off ProceduresPerform the following checks to the equipment room and hardware installation beforesupplying power to the ZXR10 5900E:

1. Check the temperature and humidity in the equipment room.l If the relative humidity in the equipment room is too high for a long time, current

leakage may occur or the insulating function may become invalid. Mechanicalfeatures of materials may change or metal components may rust. If the relativehumidity is too low, the insulating pad may shrink and cause loose screws. Thestatic electricity may occur in a dry environment which endangers the switchcircuit.

ZXR10 5900E Series Hardware Manual

l A high temperature may cause more harm. A longtime high temperature mayspeed up the aging process of insulating materials, which reduces the switchreliability and affects the switch lifespan.

2. Verify that power cables and other cables are connected correctly.3. Check other hardware.

a. Verify that devices are labeled completely, correctly and clearly.

b. Verify that the switch is firmly installed in the 19-inch standard cabinet or stablyinstalled on the desktop.

c. Verify that the cabinet is grounded properly and that the grounding resistancemeets technical requirements.

Perform the following steps to power on the ZXR10 5900E:

1. Put the plug of the AC power cable into a socket.2. Turn on the external power supply.

(Optional) To power off the ZXR10 5900E, perform the following steps:

1. Turn off the external power supply.2. Unplug the AC power cable.

4.4 (Optional) Lightning Arrester for AC Power Supply

Note:

The lightning arrester is not provided with the switch.

If an outdoor AC power cord is directly led to the switch, a connector bar with lightningprotection must be used to prevent possible damage to the switch due to lightning strike. The connector bar can be fixed on the cabinet, workbench or the wall of the equipmentroom with clips and screws. For the overview of a connector bar (lightning arrester), seeFigure 4-8.

Note:l Ensure that the arrester is well grounded before use.l After connecting the AC power cord plug to the lightning arrester socket, if the green

LED is lit, it means that the lightning arrester is operating and the lightning protectionfunction has taken effect.

l The arrester should be installed and debugged in accordance with the arresterinstructions and in compliance with the local engineering technical standards andspecifications, to ensure proper grounding, bonding and isoelectric connection.

l The lightning-protection system must be checked regularly. For example, before andafter each thunderstorm season, usersmust verify that the lightning-protectionmoduleis undamaged and operates well, and the connection is in good condition. If a fault islocated, troubleshoot the fault immediately.
