Positioning

Comparing Storage for SMBsTechnology Advantages Disadvantages

Direct Attached Storage (DAS)

• Low cost, easy to install, and familiar

• Unable to share capacity across servers

NAS • Fast, scalable file serving for multiple clients

• Performance and configuration cosiderations when serving application data (e.g. Exchange, SQL Server, etc…)

iSCSI SAN • Low cost, shared capacity across servers that runs on existing TCP/IP network.

• Requires gateway for file serving and storage expertise to manage.

Fibre Channel SAN

• High performance and shared capacity across servers

• Higher cost and complexity

Comparing Storage for SMBsTechnology Advantages Disadvantages

Direct Attached Storage (DAS)

• Low cost, easy to install, and familiar

• Unable to share capacity across servers

NAS • Fast, scalable file serving for multiple clients

• Configuration considerations when serving application data (e.g. Exchange, SQL Server, etc…)

HP All-in-One Storage

• Affordable integrated NAS, iSCSI SAN, and data protection with radically simple management

• Focused on affordability and simplicity of management rather than as the best in class capabilities of dedicated NAS or SAN.

iSCSI SAN • Low cost, shared capacity across servers that runs on existing TCP/IP network.

• Requires gateway for file serving and storage expertise to manage.

Fibre Channel SAN

• High performance and shared capacity across servers

• Higher cost and complexity

All-in-OneSmall and mid-size companies face unique challenges when it comes to storage…

Customer Challenges

Page 7: © 2006 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. The information contained herein is subject to change without notice HP Simply StorageWorks Roadshow

• Data storage is out of control: E-mail growth (MS Exchange), regulatory requirements, and data protection is driving massive data proliferation and storage growth.

• Servers running out of capacity: companies add more DAS or more servers – easy to do, but is not cost effective and is difficult to manage, grow, and protect.

• Lack of resources: SMBs have stayed away from network storage because of cost and complexity.

• SMBs lack storage expertise: Current solutions work at the storage layer but IT managers work at the application layer.

• SMBs want the guidance of a trusted advisor

Customer Challenges

IT works at the application level

Application view:Administrators work with their applications and think about Exchange Storage Groups, Databases, File Shares, etc..

File Servers

As they grow, serversrun out of capacity…

Need additional file servers to meet end-user demands…

Clients

Customer Challenges

Growth options with DAS are limited

DAS Issues:Servers proliferate and adding more direct attached storage is inefficient, creating storage ‘islands’ of wasted capacity

Ideal customer• Networked environment with approx. 3 to 14 servers. (SMBs as

well as enterprise branch office / departments)

• High rate of data growth. Need for longer term online storage.

• IT expertise limited to applications, not storage

• Microsoft application usage (SQL or Exchange)

• Not currently using network storage (maybe some low-end NAS)

• Needs to easily implement improved data protection strategy

• Needs a foundation for simple and manageable growth

• Prioritizes affordability and ease of use over high-availability and high-performance

StorageWorks All-in-One Partner Opportunity

Capitalize on Market Trends

• The timing is right for an easy to use, low cost, unified storage solution designed to meet the specific needs of SMB customers. The All-in-One has been extensively tested with customer focus groups and all indicates very positive response to the AiO value proposition.

Capitalize on HP GTM efforts to drive SMB Volume Storage

• This is one of the most significant volume storage product launches in recent SWD history. Will include outbound marketing and advertising to build awareness, as well as dedicated channel partner programs to drive new category revenue.

Capitalize on Cross Sell/Up Sell Opportunity

• Early adoption of iSCSI SAN has occurred but most customers are waiting for a mainstream solution.

• Current iSCSI products are highly technology focused and have missed the needs of mainstream SMB customers – flexibility, ease of use, affordability.
