Summary

This class will show AutoCAD® Map 3D Enterprise 2012 users how to publish their database-based infrastructure data to map books.

Map books are comprised of multiple pages showing all of the map data for a larger geographic area.

They are often used by utility field crews in paper format and in digital format on laptops and tablet devices.

Map 3D Enterprise 2012 can be used to maintain the tile boundaries for each sheet and for automatically generating the map book sheets, including custom title blocks with dynamically populated attribute fields.

At the end of this class, attendees will understand the steps needed to build their own map books.

General Map Book Workflow

1. Maintain your enterprise-wide GIS data in Map 3D Enterprise 2012 with all data residing in a spatial database.

2. Maintain a feature class for a grid system that represents the boundaries of the individual map sheets in the Map Book.

3. Export the Map 3D Enterprise 2012 system-wide map data to one DWG file.4. Export the map sheet polygon feature class to an SDF file.5. Using standard Map 3D 2012, import the SDF file into a new DWG file.6. Using standard Map 3D 2012, XREF the exported DWG file.7. Using standard Map 3D 2012, utilize the Map Book functionality to define, generate and

publish your Map Book.

Requirements for the Map Book

The Map3D Enterprise 2012 display model must be created in such a way as to be conducive to producing map books.

Polygons and associated attributes must be created and maintained that represent each map sheet extent.

A DWT or DWG template must be maintained that contains the title block and any other paperspace elements you wish to have on each sheet. In addition, this can contain the block attribute fields that will dynamically populated upon publishing.

A Map3D 2012 Map Book file and configuration must be created and maintained that specifies the various components needed to assemble the map book and to publish it.
