Psalm 34: O Lord, who may abide in your tent? First Thursday and Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

In 1673, a French nun named Margaret Mary Alacoque had visions of Jesus, where he asked the Church to honor His Most Sacred Heart. In particular, Jesus asked the faithful to “receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months.” The request was connected to a specific promise made to all who venerated and promoted devotion to the Sacred Heart. After Margaret Mary’s death, the First Friday practice steadily spread in the Church — endorsed by popes and promoted by saints — but it greatly increased in popularity when Margaret Mary was canonized a saint in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.

In order to make the First Friday devotion, we are asked to go to Mass, confession and receive Holy Communion with the intention of honoring Christ’s Sacred Heart.

Jesus promises the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.” This means that if a person faithfully receives communion for nine consecutive months on First Fridays, Jesus will grant that person extra graces at the time of their death, making it possible to repent of their sins and receive the last rites (if needed).

In anticipation and preparation, we will be having adoration on Thursday, September 2 from 8 pm-10:30 pm. Please join us and pray for your families.

Reconciliation and healing for residential school survivors and

their communities– financial appeal announced by

Saskatchewan bishops: The five Catholic bishops of

Saskatchewan on July 13th released more details about a

planned fund-raising appeal entitled “Catholic TRC healing

response.” The Saskatchewan bishops said that the appeal’s

goal is “to support Residential School survivors and their

communities and to engage more deeply in our own ongoing

commitment and response to the Truth and Reconciliation

process” with funds going to the priorities of healing and

reconciliation; cemeteries on the sites of former residential

schools; and education and cultural support. “We are

collaborating with potential participants, and consulting with

Indigenous dialogue partners, including Survivors, Elders,

Knowledge Keepers, Chiefs, and other community members.

Out of these conversations, each diocese and eparchy will

discern and communicate separately how they will proceed

with the Appeal in their respective dioceses and communities,”

said the bishops. For those who wish to donate immediately or

make a long-term pledge, see the online giving options at:

Stewardship Bulletin Bits August

August 1, 2021 - 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily

portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my

instructions or not.” Exodus 16:4

When the Israelites gathered more than their daily portion of

manna, the surplus became wormy and rotten. In the same

way today, self-reliance, pride and ego leads to hoarding and

excessive surplus of goods and money. Living a stewardship

lifestyle helps us discern our “wants” from our “needs”. Living

a grateful and generous lifestyle reminds us that God will

provide all that we need and that we have plenty to share.

August 8, 2021 - 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Get up and eat or the journey will be too much for you!” 1

Kings 19:7

God knows that committing to a stewardship lifestyle is difficult.

However, we were not designed to do it on our own, we need

His help. Fortunately, God gave us the greatest gift of all, His

son, Jesus. Through the gift of the Eucharist we join our

sacrifice with the sacrifice of the Holy Mass and receive the

strength and courage to be His joyful disciples.

August 15, 2021 - The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin

Mary

“And Mary said, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;

my spirit rejoices in God my savior.” Luke 1: 46

After Jesus, we look to Mary as our model of stewardship. Her

entire life was lived in obedience to God’s will. Just as the

moon reflects the light of the sun, Mary reflects the light of

Christ. Like Mary, we too are called to reflect Christ to the

world. We do this by living grateful and generous lives. We do

this by putting other’s needs before our wants.

August 22, 2021 - 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

“If it does not please you to serve the Lord, decide today whom

you will serve…As for me and my household, we will serve the

Lord.” Joshua 24:15

When we commit to serve the Lord, we must be willing to

become a disciple in the work of the Lord. A disciple is a

person who spends time in prayer every day, joyfully

participates in charitable works and generously supports their

local parish and Church mission. If we say we serve God, we

must actually do something and not merely talk about it!

August 29, 2021 - 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Be doers of the word and not hearers only…” James 1:22

It’s easy to understand the definition of stewardship – living a

grateful and generous life. The hard part is doing it! How do

your actions reflect God’s word? Do you share your time in

prayer with God? Do you use your talent to help those in

need? Are you generous with your financial resources? If not,

what are you waiting for?
