WE WALK BY FAITH But what of us? The early Christian community could only trust the words of these same apostles, the ones Thomas could-n’t believe, when they preached Jesus Christ risen from the dead. Who could believe what they said? The Holy Spirit, breathed upon the disciples in that first encounter, emanated so powerfully from them that they were able to convene seeming-ly utopian communities of faith. Filled with “divine mercy,” their lives became an evangelization to the world. And this is how we too are sent out, like the disciples, filled with the Holy Spirit and bearing the Lord’s peace and mercy to a troubled, suffering world. The wounds of Jesus are very real today in the needy and broken. May we always work to bind up those wounds wherever we find them.

Keep Faith Alive in Your Home Many of us are asked to stay home and avoid crowds to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to prevent hospitals from becoming over-whelmed. To help families and individuals to keep the faith alive, grow in relationship with Jesus and continue to observe this Holy Season of Lent while at home, we have compiled resources for families and indi-viduals. Pray with our Priests with the Mass Online During these trying times, it is important to continue the practice of our faith. Thanks to the gift of technology, there are ways to participate in Mass virtually via online streaming. Find local options at CatholicMassOnline.org.

Support Our Parishes Thank you for all you have done in the past to support your parish. Our parishes and the ministries they offer are viable because of the gener-osity of their parishioners and supporters, even when public Masses are not possible. Thank you for all you have done in the past and the steps you are taking today to support your parish while we all make adjust-ments for the good of our communities.

Prayers for Health and Healing Prayer is an important way for Catholics to respond to any crisis as we express our dependence on God. We pray especially for all those who are ill or have died, their families, health care workers and officials working to slow the spread of COVID-19. Bishop Parkes urges the faith-ful to pray and fast for a quick and positive resolution of the current pandemic and for compassion and kindness to prevail in the hearts of all as we care for those in need.

Stay Informed of the Church’s Response to COVID-19 As we face challenges and concerns related to the COVID-19 pan-demic, we are leaning more on our faith and trusting in the Lord Jesus to be our protection and guide. While we are separated by quarantines, self-isolation and social distancing, Pope Francis reminds us that, united in Christ, we are never alone. To help all of the faithful remain rooted in faith during this time, we have compiled statements from Bishop Parkes and other important resources at www.dosp.org Stay Connected!!

Second Sunday of Easter— Divine Mercy Sunday Please visit our website at www.LadyRosary.org

Jesus is the source of our peace and joy On this second Sunday of Easter, our Gospel reading from St. John recounts the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. Jesus breathes on them and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” However, I think it’s particularly relevant to us today how the Gospel begins. John tells us that the disciples were gathered together be-hind locked doors out of fear for the Jews. They were no doubt fear-ful that as followers of Jesus, they might endure the same suffering and death which they just witnessed Him endure. The Gospel says that Jesus came and stood in their midst, and showed them His hands and His side so they would know it was Him and not a ghost. The presence of Jesus brought them great joy, and Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you.” We can only imagine the peace that the presence of the Lord brought to them while they were experiencing such great fear. What are you fearful of? There is so much going on in our world today, and life just doesn’t seem normal. The uncertainty of when things will return to normal can cause both anxiety and fear. Is there something in your personal life that is causing you fear – health, job issues, finances? Fear serves to rob us of our joy and of hope which is what God wants for each of us. Jesus came out of love for each of us, and He wants us to have peace in our lives – even in the midst of uncertain times. The words He spoke to His disciples, He speaks to us, “Peace be with you.” He is the source of our peace and joy, and that will never change even if things around us are always changing. This Sunday, I invite you to celebrate the Lord’s Day by thanking God for the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, who came that we might have life and peace. The disciples believed. Pray for the strength and courage to have faith and peace, particularly during these un-certain times. —Bishop Gregory Parkes, Diocese of St. Petersburg

“Where, if not in the Divine Mercy, can the world find refuge and the light of hope?” —Saint Pope John Paul II

President’s Reflection and Prayer During Coronavirus With the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus, we are confronted once more with the fragility of our lives, and again we are reminded of our common human-ity — that the peoples of this world are our brothers and sisters, that we are all one family under God.

God does not abandon us, he goes with us even now in this time of trial and testing. In this moment, it is important for us to anchor our hearts in the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. Now is the time to intensify our prayers and sacri-fices for the love of God and the love of our neighbor. Let us draw closer to one another in our love for him, and rediscover the things that truly matter in our lives.

United with our Holy Father Pope Francis, let us pray in solidarity for our broth-ers and sisters here and around the world who are sick. Let us pray for those who have lost loved ones to this virus. May God console them and grant them peace. We pray also for doctors, nurses, and caregivers, for public health officials and all civic leaders. May God grant them courage and prudence as they seek to respond to this emergency with compassion and in service to the common good.

In this time of need, I invite all the faithful to seek together the maternal inter-cession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and I share this prayer with you:

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas.

We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,

as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world,

and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels,

that we may be spared the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance.

Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust.

In this time of trial and testing,

teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother,

health of the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms,

help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul The Catholic Church encourages the “practice of merciful love,” offering as a guide the corporal works of mercy, charitable acts for the common good and basic human welfare. These actions are rooted in our love for

the Lord, and as Jesus tells us, knowing that whatever we do for the most vulnerable among us we do for Him.

CREATE A FAMILY PRAYER SPACE

In the coming weeks, families will spend more time together at home. A good use of this time would be to pray together regularly. This time to pray together can be stimulated by creating a space dedicated to prayer in your home. Making a place in the house dedicated to prayer can help us do what the Gospel tells us, to be in an “interior room” to pray (Matthew 6, 6). Make your place of prayer as calm, clean and "as a desert" as possible. It can be the corner of a room or an unoccupied space. In this place, place a Bible, prayer books, a cross, a rosary, images of saints and, if possible, a candle. Encourage your family members to visit this place of prayer for per-sonal or family prayer. You can bless that place with the following prayer:

Come Lord. Come live in this place of prayer, and sanctify it with your peace and your presence. Bless those who seek you here. We pray in the

name of Jesus. Amen.

Since we cannot go to Mass, a suggestion for praying together is to have a resource, like one of the books that has prayers and readings for Sun-day Masses and so all pray together. You can also

find the readings online at www.usccb.org.

Bendice a quienes aquí te busquen.

WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED

Question: Where did the feast of Divine Mercy come from?

Answer: If you were born well before the year 2000, you know the feast of Divine Mercy has not always been celebrated in the Church. In the early 1900s, a young Polish nun began receiving private revelations. Jesus appeared to her during her times of prayer, speaking a message of mercy and love for the world. She received a set of prayers - the Divine Mercy Chaplet - and the request to have a feast day established to remind the Church of the mercy of God. St. Faustina died in 1938, on the cusp of war and in the midst of one of the most violent centuries in the history of the world.

Her story and her diaries began circulating in Poland and beyond. It quickly became apparent that this was a holy young women, and the cause for her canonization opened. In the year 2000, she was canonized by the first-ever Polish pope, St. John Paul II. On her canonization day, he established the second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday, "a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face, with confidence in divine benevolence, the difficul-ties and trials that mankind with experience in the years to come."

MAKING A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION BY FATHER RON AUBIN

If for whatever reason, you are not able to attend Mass and receive Jesus in Holy Communion, then I encourage you to make a spiritual communion, or better yet, make your entire day a spiritual communion with Jesus. There are several web sites, listed below, that explain how to do just that. But my favorite prayer for maintaining a spiritual communion with Jesus is the Prayer of Saint Patrick, also known as the Breastplate of Saint Patrick: https://www.ourcatholicprayers.com/st-atricksbreastplate.html I’ve adapted this prayer to suit my own spiritual needs and my version goes something like this:

Christ be with me, within in me, before me, behind me, beneath me, above me.

Christ be on my right, and on my left. Christ be in my heart, in my mind, in my soul, and in every fiber

of my being. Christ be in my thoughts, in my words, and in my actions.

Christ be in my eyes (what I see), my ears (what I hear), on my lips (what I say),

in my hands (what I do) and in my feet (where I go). Christ be in my sleeping, in my waking, and in all my doing.

I love Jesus, be with me today, that I might be with you forever. Have you moved or changed your phone number?

Please help us keep our records updated, and let us know if you have moved, changed your telephone number or email address. This help us stay in touch with you. Please e-mail us at [email protected] or call (813) 949-4565. Thank you!

HELP OUT OUR ADVERTISERS Our Sunday bulletin is an important way for us to communi-cate with you, especially during these days of the Coronavirus pandemic. It might be the only way that we can reach some of you. Every bulletin that you receive is paid for through the generosity of the businesses that you see advertised on the back cover. Most of these advertisers are members of our local community, and many belong to our parish. We urge you to think of them when you decide to have a meal or other item delivered to your door. Tell the business owners that you ap-preciate their support of our parish through their advertise-ments in the bulletin. This is one small way that we can work within our own community to weather the challenges that we face. Together we can help each other make it through. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

Did You Know? Where do kids spend their time? You can help keep your children safe by knowing where they spend their time. Get to know the adults who show up at the various locations in the community where children gather and where they play together. Be wary of any adult who seems more interested in creating a relationship with a child than with other adults. Pay attention when an adult seems to single out a particular child for a relationship or for special attention. Warning signs include treats, gifts, vaca-tions, or other special favors offered only to one specific child. For more infor-mation check www.missingkids.com. How to report inappropriate or illegal content on the Internet. One of the main reasons that children do not report the inappropriate content they find on line is fear of punishment from parents or other authority figures. It may also keep them from reporting cyber bullying. If you talk with them about these issues, and let them know that it is not their fault if they come across an inappropriate site, they will be more willing to come to you when it happens. If your children ever show you a site that contains illegal behavior, such as porno-graphic images of children, contact your Internet service provider and the CyberTipline at www.cybertipline.com. You may also want to contact law en-forcement or your child’s school if other students are involved. What are some of the effects of child abuse? Those who have been abused seldom just get over it. The sense of violation goes deep into a person’s psyche, and feelings of anger, shame, hurt, and betrayal can build long after the abuse has taken place. Experiencing suicidal thoughts are also possible. Some victims have even described the feeling as if it had scarred their soul. How can the healing process begin for victims of child abuse?

Relief from hurt and anger associated with child abuse often comes when the victim feels heard, when one’s pain and suffering are taken seriously, and a victim’s appropriate sense of anger and indignation are acknowledged.

PRAY FOR VICTIMS OF ABUSE, AND THROUGH AWARENESS AND ACTION, CHILDREN WILL BE KEPT SAFE.

ABRIL ES EL MES NACIONAL DE PREVENCIÓN DEL ABUSO INFANTIL

¿Sabias Que?

Those who work hard to keep us safe. Those who work hard to cure and care for us. Those who work hard to keep the most basic

things in life running. Those who work hard so we can have food.

Thank you for your understanding during this unusual situation.

We are still here and will be when this is all over.

Please STAY SAFE!! God Bless
