The winter is the time of highest expenditure and least income for the Centre. If you donate, please get in touch on 01398 323093 or via info@ ex-moorponycentre.org.uk. Keep a look out for vari-ous fundraising events/evenings and join in. Our Halloween event is on Thursday 29th October from 11am-3pm during the half-term holiday. The special Christmas Weekend will be on 12th and 13th December; the ponies welcome children to join them on a ride, enjoy lots of Christmas fun and receive a present; early bookings are essen-tial. For any pony themed Christmas presents, please visit the Centre or look at our online shop. Why not adopt a pony for someone or join them up to our 100 Club. Thank you to all who support these precious rare breed ponies.

Families For Children

Families for Children are looking for adopters to come forward now. There is no upper age limit for adoption, you can be married or single and you don’t have to own your own home. We are looking for people who have the room in their hearts and can offer a loving and secure family to children most in need. We are especially looking for those who may consider older children (over 4 years), sibling groups and children with disabili-ties. Our North Devon office is open on one Saturday of every month when you can talk with our spe-cialist adoption social workers and experienced adoptive parents about all aspects of adoption. Our next open morning is October 24th from 10am to 12 noon. Programme: 10–11am Presentation with the chance to hear from one of our adopters 11am–12noon Staff and adopters available for individual questions and discussion Tea/coffee and biscuits will be available. Make the most of your eyes and ears As part of Lipreading Aware-ness week the See Hear Cen-tre is launching new Lip read-ing classes, which will take place in Bideford and South Molton starting from Monday

12th October. 1 in 6 people in the UK have some form of hear-ing loss. That’s over 10 million people. The single biggest barrier facing people with a hearing loss is difficulty with communication and understand-ing what is being said, leading to a loss of inde-pendence, withdrawal from society, loneliness and isolation. Jan Marshall, the lipreading tutor, said “this is not just about learning the skills to lipread it’s also about meeting and sharing ex-periences in an environment where everybody understands how your hearing loss affects your everyday life”. The See Hear Centre’s new classes complement their existing Hearing Loss Support Groups, and its equipment demonstra-tions and ‘try before you buy’ loan scheme which is available at its centre in Barnstaple and on its mobile service, See Hear on Wheels—for local dates see the Dairy on the centre pages here. Many people don’t know the best way to look after their eyes. They tend to think that a sight test is just about checking whether their vision needs correcting with glasses or contact lenses, but it is also a vital check on the health of their eyes and includes the detection of eye condi-tions. Many of these, if found early, can be treated successfully, avoiding potential sight loss. The See Hear Centre in Barnstaple - which is open on Tuesdays 9am - 5pm and by appoint-ment on other days - provides information, equip-ment demonstrations, short-term loans and one-to-one support, helping people to cope better with their sight loss. For more information and to book a place on the classes contact the See Hear Centre: telephone on 01271 373236; text 07831 515809: email [email protected]; visit the website: www.livingoptions.org.uk
