Maplewood Baptist Church
MBC January 2018 Volume 26, No. 1
Rev. Jimmy Lancaster, Pastor
After much prayer, our Associate Pastor Search Committee presents Rev. Larry Trivette to serve as our Associate Pastor of
Worship & Family Ministries. The committee is elated & grateful for all the prayers as they have remained diligent to follow the
Lord’s leadership throughout this process. They believe strongly He has led us to the right candidate & believe Rev. Trivette &
his family will be a tremendous addition to our church family!!
He has attended Wilkes Community College (1980-1981), the Community College of the Air Force (1983-1987) and
received his Associates Degree in Biblical Studies from Vintage Bible College in 2007. He was working on his Bachelor of
Theology & Christian Education degree until his father became ill. He eventually took time off from school & full-time ministry
to be able to be more available for his dad - who passed into Glory in 2010.
Larry accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1973 at Fairplains Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro. He has always
been active in church & began volunteering in 1987. He accepted the call into the Gospel Ministry in 1995 and was ordained into
the ministry in 1999. He has served in a variety of roles - working with children, youth, adults, seniors, education, music &
outreach. He has served churches from 120 - 500 in worship attendance.
He married Kay Burcham from the State Road community in 1990. They’ve worked together in ministry over the years and she
is a great help and support to his ministry. Kay has served as church pianist in a couple of the churches where he has served as
Minister of Music. She is employed at the Lowe’s Corporate Offices in Wilkesboro as an import logistics analyst. They have one
daughter - Faith who is 20 years old. He had the great blessing of baptizing her in 2006. Faith attends Wilkes Community
College and hopes to continue her education at Gardner Webb.
Larry believes the church’s mission is to disciple and minister to all ages. He desires to be a visible part of the church family
and enjoys working with all ages. He especially enjoys supporting the youth and children through their school sports, drama and
musical interests. He has a great passion for using music and drama in ministry.
Larry & his family will be with our church family on Sunday - January 7th. He will be sharing his testimony with
several of our Sunday School classes and leading us in worship. They’ll enjoy a “covered dish luncheon” with our church family
- immediately following the service in our Fellowship Building & will be available to answer any specific questions you may
have for him.
On Wednesday - Jan 10th, our church family will have any questions answered & concerns addressed by the Search
Committee. On Sunday, Jan 14th, our church family will vote, by written ballot, on the recommendation. It’s our
understanding, with an affirming vote, he would begin his ministry with us on Sunday - Feb 18th.

New Year's Prayer
Lord, this year I want to change, and I've said that in the past. But now my prayer is different
'cause I understand at last.
I wanted my own way before, I ignored your loving plans.
But now I'm putting everything into your nail-scarred hands.
I promise to obey you out of gratitude and love. I won't be giving orders to my Father up above.
I finally realize the truth and so I've changed my prayer.
The safest place for me to be is in your gentle care.
Please be my shepherd, Jesus, that's all I ask of you.
In good times and in bad this year, Take my hand and lead me through.
--Jack Zavada
