Quick ways to make money
Go to Las Vegas
Go on Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune
Sell a lot of Girl Scouts cookies
But Seriously
The Future Transitions Program will hook you up with an OVR Counselor.
OVR = Office of Vocational Rehabilitation
OVR will help you find a way to afford college or job training. (College is not free!)
OVR will ask you to get SSI
SSI = More Money, Less Stress
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) helps you get through college or job training.
SSI helps you FOCUS on school and get a degree. This means MORE MONEY for you later on.
SSI is Just One Step to Success
How much money you get each month from SSI depends on many things. Not everyone gets the same amount of money.
For this lesson let’s assume you will get $700 a month.
Fool’s Gold
$700 a month x 12 months =
$8,400 a year.
That’s a lot of money.
NOT.
Comparing SSI to Jobs
If you quit high school and find a job, your average salary will probably be about…
$19,000 a year.
$19,000 / 12 = $1,583 a month
Comparing SSI to Jobs
If you graduate high school and find a job, your average salary will probably be about…
$30,000 a year.
$30,000 / 12 = $2,500 a month
($30,000 is a LOT better than $19,000. Please STAY IN SCHOOL and graduate!)
Comparing SSI to Jobs
If you go to college or a job training program for up to two years, your average salary will probably be about…
$39,000
$39,000 / 12 = $3,250 a month
Comparing SSI to Jobs
If you go to college for four years and earn a B.A. degree, your average salary will probably be about…
$53,000
$53,000 / 12 = $4,417 a month
Comparing SSI to Jobs
If you go to college for two more years after your B.A. degree and earn an M.A. degree, your average salary will be about…
$66,000
$66,000 / 12 = $5,500 a month
Ph.D. = $80,000+
$80,000 / 12 = $6,667 a month
