INTRODUCING INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS RESEARCH
In an increasingly globalizing world, it is important for companies to look beyond the borders of their own country. In fact, Dutch companies have to keep expanding their scope even outside of Europe in order to attain and sustain growth.
International Business Research is the perfect way for companies to gain knowledge about upcoming economies. During the last 28 years, the Inter-national Business Research initiative has helped a large amount of compa-nies, from small and medium-sized enterprises to multinationals, to expand their knowledge of new emerging markets. The strength of International Business Research comes from the fact that it offers tailor-made market research at cost price carried out by only the very best students. These students are supervised by two senior professors from the University of Gronin-gen, belonging to the top one per cent of international business schools. Moreover, our studens work in close collaboration with students from local partner universities. Above all, the project is supervised by a carefully selected advisory board consisting of Dutch business experts.

RSWHY VIETNAM?
Vietnam has a giant internal market with more than 90 million inhabitants and had an impressive economic growth of 6.7 per cent last year. As of now the Vietnamese market is a particularly interesting market, because at the beginning of 2016 the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union and the Trans-Pacific Partnership was established. Besides this, Vietnam offers many more advantages for Dutch businesses: a young and brand aware population, low wage rates, a fast growing middle class, political stability, an abundance of natural resources and a fantastic geographic location. Not only is Viet-nam one of the focus countries of the Dutch government, but the Netherlands is also the largest investor in Vietnam amongst its European Members.
INTERESTING SECTORS IN VIETNAM
AGRICULTURE The agricultural sector in Vietnam is experiencing major restructurings, leading to fa-vorable opportunities for foreign investors. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Devel-opment in Vietnam has implemented new policies to enhance business conditions and incentives for foreign enterprises to invest in the agricultural industry. Expectations are that the equitization and restructuring of state-owned enterprises will lead to significant growth in private investments in the upcoming years.
LIFE SCIENCES & HEALTH The middle class of Vietnam is expected to double in the years 2014-2020, leading to an increase in health expenditures. Moreover, infectious and noninfectious diseases are becoming a growing concern. The Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry is yearly growing with 14 per cent. Lastly, the investments in the medical device markets are on the rise, which offers interesting opportunities in Vietnam’s life science & health indus-try.
WATER Because of the Vietnamese economic growth of the past decade, the water industry has become an interesting sector. The established water industry was not able to keep up with demand at the time, causing water shortages and inefficient wastewater usage. Currently, major amounts of wastewater are still untreated which damages the envi-ronment. Therefore, the Vietnamese water infrastructure requires further development and offers you the opportunity to investigate investment possibilities.
OTHER SECTORS WITH HIGH POTENTIAL IN VIETNAM: • Food & Beverages• Oil & Gas• Maritime
• Smart Cities• Logistics & Infrastructure• Horticulture & Aquaculture

“On several occasions IBR has proven to us that the research conducted for our company was detailed and of a very high standard. Every report helped us to make a final decision to enter a market or to refrain from making further investments. The students conducting the research have always been very focused and several found their first job in our company afterwards.”C.D. Schut - Commercial Manager AkzoNobel Functional Chemical Salt Specialties
“On behalf of EA Broekema, I can warmly recommend the International Business Research (IBR) initiative. Their reports provided us with valuable intelligence about the market of conveyor belts in these countries, which are key to our growth strategy. It was a great pleasure to work with these highly enthusiastic students, who came well prepared and were very committed to the task. The young and dedicated teams brought this special energy that added fun to the work. I strongly suggest that entrepreneurs consider IBR when exploring opportunities in emerging markets.”J. Huisman - General DirectorEA Broekema
“It is with pleasure that I endorse the International Business Research initiative. In a more globalized world it is also for the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen important to have an increasing international scope. Furthermore, the FEB continues to increase the connection between students and businesses. International Business Research is the perfect combination of academic training and real life market research. With International Business Research, companies have the chance to get in contact with carefully selected and highly motivated students.”Prof. dr. J.H.
