OverviewThese are the instructions contained in the basic lessons on the Games & Totals Worksheet plus Header Row hints contained on various worksheets. The Header Row hints on various results sheets may not necessarily pertain to the column in which these hints are contained. They are usually just a series of instructions pertaining to operation of that results sheet.

You can keep this file open for reference while working on a SweeperBrac file and use Alt + Tab to cycle between them. Or you can print this file if you prefer paper reference manuals.

These are comprehensive instructions and you may never have need for some of them. That will depend on which features you use. This software, for example handles a very wide range of situations and you may never

need to score brackets for the 6th, 7th, and 8th games of a tournament, or need to score brackets for a special mixed doubles single partner tournament, or run a Mulligan singles event, or run a teams bracket event. If you bought a special version of SweeperBrac, scaled down for easy Internet transmission, some of the features described here may not be present in your special version.

If you purchased the complete version, it may take a minute or two to initially open the Excel file, depending on the speed of your computer. The complete template contains well over 10 million lines of code. It should run snappily on a current computer, once opened. If you wish, you may create a faster-opening working copy by making a copy, then deleting the modules (sheets) from that copy which you are not planning on using regularly. Give that template copy a name like sweeperbrac workingcopy.xltx and save it to your hard drive as a template.

To jump to a particular section listed in the Table of Contents, hold down the Control key and click on the page number.

Items are listed below are listed by either the title of the column shown in the Header Row or by cell designation (e.g. Cell B2).

The first 16 basic lessons on the Games & Totals worksheet are for people who are not already accomplished users of Microsoft Excel. They will teach you everything you need to know about Excel in order to use SweeperBrac. If you are an accomplished user of Excel you may not need to read the first 16 lessons but if you’re not sure about your knowledge, it wouldn’t hurt to at least scan over those 16 lessons quickly.

IntroductionWelcome to the world of RCP Software featuring cutting edge data management software. This software features a self-teaching tutorial. To take the lessons, just pass your mouse over the cells below which contain a red triangle in the corner. For additional details on the regular features of Excel, such as printing, screen display, etc. consult your Microsoft Manuals and the Microsoft Help menu. However, what you will need to know is covered in the RCP Software instructions.

There is some sample data entered on some of the brackets sheets. After you have familiarized yourself with how SweeperBrac works, you can remove the sample data using the Clear Contents command on your right mouse button. Also please return the Handicap Per Game amounts to 0 in Column F of the Games & Totals sheet if you

Page 7: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

change any of those. Then you may save the cleared (i.e. contains no user-added data) file as a template on your hard drive. Then, each time you run an event, you will open a copy of that stored template using the New command on the File menu. All the data fields will then be blank. And you will give the copy a name that describes the tournament event, usually including the date, then save it to your hard drive. Then you will enter the data for your event.

If you inadvertently foul up some cells while learning, remember that you still have an undisturbed master copy on disk or in an e-mail. You can copy that file to your hard drive later, then use Clear Contents to prepare it as a “blank” template for future use.

Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals SheetThe following are the instructions contained in Column A of the Games & Totals Worksheet:

Lesson 1 – Some BasicsRCP SweeperBrac is a customized spreadsheet-type database powered by Microsoft Excel. It consists of a data entry module (Games & Totals) plus one or more event scoring modules (also referred to as results sheets). SweeperBrac and SweeperScore are closely related applications. In SweeperBrac, there are expanded brackets capabilities to handle very large brackets events. It also has special software to compute a bowler's total winnings in any particular bracket group (e.g. for 4th, 5th, and 6th games). Some SweeperScore features are removed in SweeperBrac to keep the file size manageable by most current general computer capabilities.

SweeperBrac is available in full-featured and special combination versions. Depending on which event modules you purchased, some instructions may not apply.

Most of you have used Excel previously but for those of you who have not, the general instructions below (Lessons 1-16) should help you get around an Excel spreadsheet pretty well. If you have never used Excel or any spreadsheet application before, you may want to also read some of Microsoft's general instructions. EVEN IF you're an experienced Excel user, you still need to quickly read Lessons 1-16 to get the parts that apply specifically to this customized application. Okay, here we go with spreadsheet basics.

Spreadsheets have numbered rows (1, 2, 3, etc.) and lettered columns (A, B, C, etc.)

The top row contains column titles or headings and is known as the Header Row. DO NOT change any of the column headings except where it is specifically mentioned that you may do so.

Rows and columns contain cells. Cells are designated by column and row. For example, this lesson is contained in cell A5. If you click on a cell with your mouse, or move there

Page 8: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

with the cursor arrows, it becomes the Active Cell. The active cell will have a bold border. The Active Cell is "where you are" at any given moment.

You can also move through a spreadsheet with the Enter and Tab keys. At this time, make cell S5 the active cell. Then try the Enter key, followed by the Tab key so you can see what happens. Then try the cursor keys. Good! You're on your way.

Lesson 2 – Color CodingsIn this application, there are some standardized color codings to assist you. The dark blue background cells in the Bowler Name Column indicate men and the pink background cells (starting at Row 202) indicate women. In mixed groups be sure to put everyone in the right section!

Scratch items are blue; handicap are green.

For the few huge all-male leagues that have more than 200 bowlers (we have heard there are a few), you can ignore the male/female distinction and just put the men in right down this worksheet in the Bowler Name Column, all the way up to 400 bowlers. For such leagues, the "Mixed Doubles" results sheet would not be used for round robin or even opt-in doubles. Instead, the Generic Doubles scoring module would be used, at least up to a limit of 200 bowlers (115 from men's section; 85 from women's section) in the Basic Generic Doubles module. Also note the Generic Singles results sheet which can accommodate 400 bowlers.

One cardinal rule to remember: If it's white, that's where you write; IF IT'S GRAY STAY AWAY! NEVER CHANGE OR DELETE ANY DATA IN A GRAYED AREA.

Cells with a gray background are computed columns or contain data that is not to be changed by the user. If you accidentally alter such a cell, immediately use the Undo command to backtrack and restore what you damaged. You can't just manually replace some number that you saw in the gray area. There is usually code hidden underneath and that can only be replaced by using the Undo command. There are also some cells with colored backgrounds (e.g. light green) that likewise you must not change. There are cautions about these in header row cells comments.

There are also some colored cells that contain computed results that you cannot alter even if you try. See for example Column AP and to the right of that on this sheet.

If you see something in red text, that's to get your attention. As an example, the designations for fives, threes, and fours in Column AM on this sheet are in red to remind you to scroll down to the right section before entering team names.

Lesson 3 - WorksheetsThe page you are looking at now is called a worksheet in Excel. The entire file is called a workbook. This workbook contains a number of customized worksheets. Look down at

Page 9: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

the bottom of the page and you will see what look like tabs. Each tab is connected to a worksheet. You can move to a different worksheet by clicking on its tab. You can also use Ctl + Page Up or Page Down.

The present worksheet is where you will enter the core data such as bowlers' names, their scratch scores, their handicaps, team names, etc. The other worksheets are generally used to sort results for specific events such as the team event, mixed doubles, or women's singles. As explained later, you may also be making limited data entries on some results sheets to indicate entry into pot games or entry into doubles events by the alternative opt-in method. You may also mark bowlers as continuing qualifiers in an elimination event. And after you have your results, you may be importing a payout list from DivvyItUp! or some other source.

Lesson 4 – Data Entry/ClearYou enter data in a cell by making it the active cell, then just typing in the data. Then just move away with an arrow, Tab, or Enter key. Any associated results are calculated when you exit the cell. Try entering some sample data in a cell or two now. To remove data, use your right mouse button and click on Clear Contents. Do NOT use the Delete key or command. You may clear data from a group of cells by highlighting them as a group and then using the Clear Contents command. It's on the shortcut menu which you access with your right mouse button.

NEVER clear or delete or change the contents of any grayed cell. If you accidentally do so, immediately use the Undo command to restore the data and the code contained in the cell. Grayed cells generally contain code underneath what you see. If you manually change anything in such a cell, and do not immediately UNDO what you just did, you will likely damage the data management code irreparably.

And here's a hint as to how to clear a lot of cells quickly if they are grouped together. To clear all the data in columns Game 1, Game 2, and Game 3, make the active cell the top blank cell in a nearby totally blank column such as Column Game 4 in this worksheet. Hold down the Shift key. Press End, then the down cursor arrow. That highlights the entire column. Then press the left cursor arrow until the columns are highlighted over through Game 1. Then use the Clear Contents command on the right mouse button.

Lesson 5 – Saving FilesFor each new brackets event, sweeper, or other event you score with SweeperBrac, save the new file with a name to indicate the date and title such as Merced Sweethearts Sweeper 20100825.xlsx to indicate a sweeper bowled on August 25, 2010. Save the workbooks in some convenient folder so you can refer back to the results in case someone asks you about them later.

Each new file is a copy of the template. The template remains unaltered.

Page 10: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Lesson 6 – Classic Menus OptionIf Microsoft's ribbon drives you nuts, and you generally like to get commands from the toolbar menus, you might want to get a tool from www.addintools.com that restores the classic menus so you can find things. Instructional references here will be to the classic menus and commands, primarily, which are also found on the right mouse button shortcut menu.

Note that the commands that you are most likely to use in this application are also generally on the right mouse button shortcut menu and that's where most people go to get to those commands.

Lesson 7 – Data SortingWhen it comes time to sort data to determine how people did, go to the Sort command on the Data menu or just use the right mouse button to get to the Sort command on the shortcut menu. For multi-level sorts use the Custom Sort choice. Always make sure the active cell or where you click is inside the range of data to be sorted. If you are on the other side of a sorting barrier (solid colored cells) or outside the range of data to be sorted, the Sort command will not work.

Take a look at that Custom Sort dialog box now. You will generally do a Sort On "values." You can select the column or columns to sort in the Sort By part.

You can add a second, third, etc. level of sorting by clicking on the Add Level button. If you are using a sort level to isolate at the top those who are in an event as opposed to those who are not, always sort by that value first. An example of that is found in events such as Mixed Doubles where you will sort at the first level by either Round Robin or Opt-In, largest to smallest, to bring the entrants to the top. Then you will sort at the next level by the scores, largest to smallest.

Lesson 8 - SplittingYou may find it convenient to look at something way to the right and something way to the left at the same time. Or you may want to line up columns side by side or panes one above the other. At this time try the Split command on the Window menu (or Window group on the View ribbon) or just enter Alt, w, s. There is already a horizontal split bar in the default configuration of this worksheet. It's just below the Header Row. The Split command is a toggle switch. Alt, w, s will remove the default split bar.

Create a horizontal split bar by selecting a row first. Then use Alt, w, s. Then remove it.

Next, create a vertical split bar by selecting a column first. Click on the letter at the top to do that.

Next, create both vertical and horizontal bars by selecting a cell before using the Split command. Note where the split bars appear (above and to left) and try out the horizontal and vertical scrolling to get the feel of independently scrolling sections.

Page 11: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Try creating a horizontal split bar, then switching from the top pane to the bottom pane with Shift + F6, and back again with F6.

Note that if you highlight Row 2 (click on the #2 at the far left), then use the Split command, you can now vertically scroll through data while leaving the Header Row visible. That is the default setting.

You can move a split bar around the screen by grabbing it with your mouse and dragging it around.

Splitting the window into two panes, one above the other, is very useful when initially entering names for a mixed league. You can easily switch back and forth between entering men and entering women as you go down the league sheet.

Lesson 9 – Pre-SortingAt this time take a quick look at the other worksheets to get a feel for what the various results worksheets that you purchased look like.

Just make a mental note at this time that before you use any of the non-team worksheets, you must FIRST pre-sort the Games & Totals worksheet by Event ID# in ascending (smallest to largest) order. That is the default position.

Before you use any of the team worksheets (Fives, Fours, Trios), you must FIRST pre-sort the Games & Totals worksheets by Team # in ascending (smallest to largest) order. This is the pre-sorted position most secretaries use while entering scores because that sorting makes it easy to find bowlers by their team number.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE G&T WORKSHEET PRE-SORTED AS REQUIRED, NONE OF THE RESULTS ON THE RESULTS SHEETS WILL MAKE ANY SENSE.

Lesson 10 – EasyEnter/Round Robin DoublesAt this time, scroll this sheet to the right gradually, noting the general layout. Columns RR Mxd D through RR Wom D are where you "enter" bowlers into various events, except for opt-in entries, which are explained below.

A "1" enters a bowler. Clear the "1" to remove someone. That is the EasyEnter system.

Round Robin or "everybody in with everybody" is the most commonly used doubles format. This section is where a single "1" will put a bowler into the Round Robin format if it's a doubles event. You will later do a first level sort of the pertinent doubles results sheet by "Round Robin" and largest to smallest to limit the top rankings to those who have paid for the event and thus "entered" it. The EasyEnter system enters a bowler as a partner with EVERY eligible bowler. That means every bowler who is entered in the event and with whom the bowler could theoretically be paired. It's all or nothing. Each bowler is either in totally or out totally.

Page 12: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Use the alternative "Opt-In" method explained on each doubles results page if you want to enter just the pairs who come to you individually and hand you the money for that pair. Enter bowlers for such an event on the corresponding results sheet in the "Opt-In" column.

Unless each bowler to be entered into a doubles event is going to be paired with every other bowler who is a possible partner, DO NOT use the EasyEnter method.

The RR Gen D ENH Column is Enhanced Generic Doubles which can handle up to 325 bowlers and all 52,650 generic doubles combinations. THAT MODULE IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE IN SWEEPERBRAC DUE TO ITS EXTREME SIZE. It is available in SweeperScore. The basic version of Generic Doubles is available for SweeperBrac.

Note the next two columns. Use them to enter bowlers into singles events. Assuming you have a mixed league or group and have separate events for men and women, be sure to get everyone into the right column! Note at this time there is also a Generic Singles results sheet available. For a very large group (e.g. 327) of all one gender or where gender is disregarded, use the Men's Singles/Generic Column in conjunction with the Generic Singles results sheet to handle up to 400 bowlers in a singles event. In such a situation you would also list bowlers right down the Bowler Name Column on the G&T sheet starting at Row 2, without regard to gender.

Lesson 11 – Data Entry Part 1Scratch scores are entered in columns Game 1 through Game 8.

Note the # of Games Bowled cell a little to the right of Game 8 Hdcp. If you have a regular 3 game series, put a "3" in the cell. The number is set at 3 by default. This cell is used in the total handicap computation so make sure you enter the correct number of games to be bowled before attempting to figure who won. Some leagues or tournament clubs like to have 4, 5, or even up to 8 games sweepers or mini-tournaments and this software will accommodate that.

Note carefully that if someone asks who is ahead after 2 games out of 3 in a handicap event, you can determine that up to the minute by changing the 3 to a 2 temporarily and sorting the current data. Just be sure to change it back to the correct number before tallying up the final results. This can be useful during a long 8-game event.

Lesson 12 – Data Entry Part 2Further to the right is the area where you can enter team names, in Column AO. If you enter the team names here, they will show up on the Fives, Fours, and Trios results sheets, along with the team numbers. [NOT USED AT PRESENT IN SWEEPERBRAC: If you purchased and are using the Match Club special scoring software with the enhanced teams modules, do NOT enter the names of the match teams in this column. Instead follow the special instructions for match club events in Columns BE and to the right of that.]

Page 13: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

BE SURE to use the section of Column AO that corresponds to the number of people on each team. It starts with Fives at the top. Scroll down for trios and fours. [NOT USED AT PRESENT IN SWEEPERBRAC: There is an extended section for Trios teams 61-100, further down which will apply if you purchased the enhanced Trios team modules that can handle match club events and huge trios events. That extended area can be used ONLY if you purchased the Enhanced Trios_MC module.]

Note also the quick-glance team results section starting at Column AP. THESE RESULTS WILL NOT MAKE ANY SENSE UNLESS THE MAIN DATA AREA IS FIRST PRE-SORTED BY TEAM NUMBER IN ASCENDING (SMALLEST TO LARGEST) ORDER. This section is provided only as a quick glance (mid-tournament) section and is not meant to replace the results sheets which can be sorted.

Lesson 13 – Header HintsNote that there are some cells with red triangles in the Header Row. You might want to review the hints, reminders, and supplementary information in those comments at this time. Results worksheets also have quick hints, supplementary instructions, and reminders in their header rows.

Lesson 14 - HighlightingYou can highlight multiple cells in several ways such as holding down the Shift key and moving with a cursor arrow key. By moving down, then sideways for example you can highlight a rectangular block of cells. Just holding down the Shift key and holding down the down arrow for a few seconds is a good way to highlight a lot of data in a column. After highlighting a block of data, you can quickly copy the data (Ctl+c) and paste it (Ctl+v) elsewhere as a block. Experiment with this now.

Lesson 15 – Copy & PasteYou can copy data from one location to another with the standard Copy (Ctl+c) and Paste (Ctl+v) commands. Just highlight the data, copy, paste.

Probably the easiest method is to use the shortcut menu on your right mouse button.

Note that if you copy a single cell, highlight hundreds more, then paste, you can duplicate an entry like a "1" very quickly. Keep that in mind for entering a large group of people into a special event covered by one of the Columns RR Mxd D through RR Wom D.

Lesson 16 – Pasting LinksUsing the Paste Special and Paste Link commands, you can paste a link between Location A and Location B. When a link is in place, the data at B is automatically updated to match the data at A when the data at A is changed. This technique is used in some RCP Software applications and is useful to know.

These commands are accessed from the right mouse button. First copy the cell or cells to be used as the data source, then go to the destination to be linked to the source, then access the Paste Special and Paste Link commands from the right mouse button.

Ordinarily you will not, as a data manager, employ this feature.

Lesson 17 – Splitting ScreenNow we will start the lessons that are specific to SweeperBrac and other RCP SweeperScore-based applications. Let's start with some basic data entry for bowlers.

Hint: If you have a mixed league or group, it will be helpful to first Split the window into two panes with a horizontal split bar going across the middle. Shift+F6 jumps down to the lower pane; F6 jumps back up. You can have the women's names visible in the lower pane and the men's names visible in the upper pane and quickly jump back and forth.

If you have the default horizontal split bar in place just below the Header Row, you can grab it with your mouse and pull it down to the middle of the screen.

Scroll the lower pane to Row 202. Now you're ready to go.

Lesson 18 – EasyEnter/Data TypesGoing down your league sheet or other data source, enter Team #, per game handicap, and name for each bowler. You can also enter bowlers into the non-team special events columns (starting with RR Mxd D) now or do it later, your choice. A Round Robin entry is made with a "1" in the appropriate cell. Remove a bowler by simply clearing the "1" from the cell. Doubles events entries made here are of the round-robin (everybody in with everybody) type. That's the EasyEnter system. If you are going to use the Opt-in method, such entries are done on the specific results sheets such as the Mixed Doubles worksheet. The doubles events available will depend on which scoring modules you purchased.

You don't need to enter a bowler's average unless you are going to run a Hi-Low Doubles event (available only in the SweeperScore version) or you just like to see averages listed.

The Tracking ID # is a special number to be used by tournament club managers, bowling associations, bowling centers, and others who are specially tracking regular tournament bowlers. It is used in conjunction with RCP BowlerTracker. Its use is explained in that software. If you don't have that software, ignore this column.

Match Team Number is a special column using an alternative team numbering system, specific to scoring match club type events. If you don't have any matches module(s), ignore this column. Scoring of matches between match clubs (a feature available in SweeperScore) is explained at Columns BE and later.

Lesson 19 – Entering Bowler NamesRead the explanation in the Bowler Name cell in the Header Row now.

Page 15: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

NEVER EVER delete or add a row in the Bowler Name Column. DO NOT delete a default bowler name. All bowlers must remain or the results will not calculate correctly. Simply type right over the default designation or previously entered name to enter or change a bowler's name. Just ignore the unused default rows. They will automatically be sorted to the bottom during results sorting.

Just enter the bowler names in the cells, thus replacing the default designations.

Start men at the top of the mens' section (Row 2) and start women's names at the top of their section which starts at Row 202. Again, all cells with unused default designations (like zz Man 0035) must remain in place. You must enter men and women in their own sections if you are scoring any gender-specific events such as Women's Doubles.

Special Note: One potential customer inquired about having an adult/junior event where the adults (whether men or women) are handled in one group for some events and the juniors (who can often beat their moms anyway) are handled separately, plus having a mixed event. Just mentally replace "men" with "adults" and mentally replace "women" with "juniors". Then put the names into the appropriate section in the Bowler Name Column. Then you can have "mixed" (an adult+a junior) doubles and use the Mixed Doubles worksheet to figure the results. On that results sheet you can even replace the title "Man" with "Adult" and replace "Woman" with "Junior."

If you have two bowlers with the same name, first and last, then add a middle initial. You need to distinguish names for purposes of things like brackets winnings and even the winner determinations.

Lesson 20 – More Data/Team NamesOnce you have entered all the basic data on each bowler, you should remove the horizontal split bar or, better yet, grab it and slide it up until it is just below the Header row.

Then, unless you are going to enter people into non-team events with the alternative opt-in method, pre-sort the data on the G&T worksheet by Team # in ascending (smallest to largest) order. That will make it easy to find each bowler when it comes time to enter a score because the bowlers will be listed by team and recap sheets are organized by teams. If you're going to use the alternative opt-in method for an event like mixed doubles, it's easiest to hold off on the re-sort by Team # until you have first collected all the money and put everyone into those other events. THAT IS BECAUSE YOU MUST HAVE THE G&T SHEET PRE-SORTED BY EVENT ID # BEFORE MAKING ANY ENTRIES ON NON-TEAMS RESULTS SHEETS SUCH AS MIXED DOUBLES. Of course, if you need to do so because someone enters a non-team event by the opt-in method at the very last second (and RCP DivvyItUp! will help you recalculate payouts instantly if you purchased that useful utility program), you can always switch back and forth quickly between pre-sorting the G&T sheet by Event ID # and pre-sorting by Team # but just be sure the G&T sheet is sorted by Event ID # before doing anything on any non-team results sheet.

Page 16: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

If you are not running any team event (i.e., just running doubles or singles or both), then leave the G&T worksheet sorted in its default position. There will be no team numbers to sort and no need to pre-sort this sheet to enable team results sheets sorting. Hint: If you are running just a singles or doubles tournament, try putting each bowler's Event ID # on the recap sheets. Then you can find them quickly on the G&T sheet when it comes time to enter their scores.

TEAM NAMES ENTRYGo over to the Team Names column, scroll down to the appropriate section, and enter the names of your teams next to their team numbers. If you're not running a team event, just ignore this step.

Lesson 21 – Scores Entry/Group By TeamEntry of scores is fast because in standard league sweepers you will have all the people on a team listed together and you can make quick entries from the data on a recap sheet. In strictly singles or doubles tournaments, you will have entered Event ID numbers on the recap sheets.

Tip: If you enter bowlers' team numbers as 01a, 01b, 01c, 01d etc. to indicate their order of bowling, the names will sort into the same order as on the recap sheet when you sort by Team #. If you do that for one team, you must do it for all teams.

Major Hint: When it comes time to announce who won what and pass out the money, if you start with the team competition, you can have the results in seconds because the G&T sheet will already be pre-sorted by Team #. You just need to sort the appropriate team results sheet.

Then you go back and pre-sort the G&T Sheet by Event ID # and handle all the non-team events.

Lesson 22 – Pre-sorting/Results SheetsWhen it is time to determine the winners and rankings for the non-team events, be sure to first pre-sort the G&T sheet by Event ID # in ascending (smallest to largest) order. OTHERWISE THE RESULTS ON THE NON-TEAM RESULTS SHEETS WILL MAKE NO SENSE.

The same principle applies to determining winners for team events. The G&T worksheet must first be pre-sorted by team numbers, in smallest to largest order.

Then go to the appropriate results sheet and follow the procedures explained there.

At this time, may we suggest you browse through the results sheets and at least quickly read through the instructions located in the Header Row? They're generally pretty simple but some instructions (such as those on the mixed doubles sheet) may even give you some good ideas for special events that you might find to be a lot of fun. Some of the best ideas (like Witch & Wizard Halloween Doubles and secret doubles) have come from customers using this very flexible software in very innovative ways. Try out the

Page 17: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Random Doubles Pairing Tool which we provided FREE and you may realize you can run some pretty crazy events!

Instructions in the Header Row of the Mixed Doubles sheet generally apply to all of the doubles sheets.

Lesson 23 – Sorting Results SheetsGenerally speaking, once the basic data, including scores, has been entered on the Games & Totals worksheet, it's just a matter of going to the results sheet for the event you want to score. Then you sort that results sheet according to what you want to determine, such as Scratch Game #1 in Women's Singles or the Pair Handicap Series Total in the Mixed Doubles.

Hint/reminder: The fastest way to do a one-level sort is to right click on data in the column you want to sort by, then left click on the desired sort (usually largest to smallest).

Just always remember that for team results, the G&T worksheet must be pre-sorted by Team #. And for all non-team results, the G&T worksheet must be pre-sorted to the default position, i.e. by Event ID #.

Lesson 24 – EasyEnter/CopyingJust a couple of hints here. For the standard Round Robin approach to putting bowlers into doubles events, you will use the EasyEnter method in Columns RR Mxd D through RR Wom D on this sheet. Also use it for putting bowlers into men's, women's, or generic singles events. By using copying, highlighting destinations cells as a group, and pasting, you can enter hundreds of bowlers into an event in seconds.

Lesson 25 – Handicap/Setting Number of GamesHandicap is determined for a series based on the number of games and a bowler's per game handicap. Look at the column over to the right a little past the second solid black column. The number of games is in bold red as a reminder that you need to set it to the right number since this software is flexible and you may be bowling something other than the old standard of 3 games. It is set to "3" by default. Change it to 7 if you're running a 7 games singles handicap tournament.

Lesson 26 – Use DivvyItUp!In order to divide up a prize fund quickly, we suggest you use RCP DivvyItUp! If you do not already have it, this useful utility can be obtained at a discount since you are a purchaser of SweeperBrac. It can determine payout amounts in seconds even for hundreds of paying places. With this utility, you can allow a bowler or team to enter at the last second and easily recompute the payouts in a jiffy. You can import a payout list into a printout sheet in seconds, then post that sheet on a wall or bulletin board. You can also import a payout list into a results sheet easily. A column labeled Payout Amount appears on the results sheets. After you have sorted the results sheet, just copy the payout list from DivvyItUp!, then paste it into the top white cell in the Payout Amount column, such as cell W2 on the Men's Singles results sheet.

Page 18: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Although the Payout Amount column on various sheets, and the columns around it, are primarily intended to provide integration with DivvyItUp!, you can also enter your own payout distribution dollar amounts if you wish. Just be sure to always sort the results sheet first by whatever criterion you are using to determine the winners, such as the series total.

Note that on the team results sheets, and on the various doubles results sheets, after you enter the payout amounts for the team or pair as a whole (usually by copy and paste from DivvyItUp!), calculations will be done for you automatically to determine how much each individual gets. DO NOT change anything in the In the Money or Each Bowler Gets columns. Where it's gray (or even light green), stay away.

Lesson 27 – Records/Printing ResultsMost importantly, you are going to want to keep the workbook for any sweeper or other type of tournament you score so be sure that one of the first things you do after starting a new file for a new tournament is to save the file, giving it a name that describes the tournament. Remember, when you use the New command on the File menu to start a workbook, you are making a copy of the SweeperBrac template. Set up a folder in some convenient location in your directory structure and give it a name of your own choosing. Then place all the workbooks there so you can find them in a jiffy months down the road if someone inquires about the results of a prior tournament.

Couple of hints on that. If you start the filename with the name of the tournament, then follow that with an 8-digit date like 20101013 for a sweeper tournament bowled on October 13, 2010, all the records will be grouped and chronological in your tournament records directory.

There is no particular need to print out results on paper but many league secretaries and tournament directors like to do that so they can post the results on a wall or pass around a copy.

If you want to print rank-ordered results of each game in something like singles to show pot game winners, sort it the way you want it, then print. Re-sort, print again, etc. For this purpose, you probably want to only print the first page or so. Print Preview on the File menu will show you in advance what it will look like when printed, page by page.

Print out a page or pages from a worksheet with the standard Print command in Excel. (On File menu or just use Ctl + P)

Pages are pre-set to print Portrait or Landscape, whichever is most likely the best for the sheet, but you could change that if desired.

And, if you have DivvyItUp!, you can import (copy and paste) a payout distribution from DivvyItUp! and add it to the printout to show people how much money they won in that event.

Page 19: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Lesson 28 – Handling No ShowsIf a team drops out of the sweeper or just doesn't show up, the easiest thing to do is just ignore that. The team and its individual members will drop to the bottom of any rankings because they will have no score. But you CANNOT remove them from the list of bowlers or the list of teams. Each numbered team and each place on that team has a set place in the core data structure on the G&T worksheet and the rows set aside for that team number must at least have placeholders.

Lesson 29 – Special Doubles Events – Part 1Some of our customers, in the South in particular, like to run certain special types of doubles events. Some call this first type Alibi Doubles. Whatever you call it, a bowler is allowed to enter the same doubles event more than once. If it's, for example, men's doubles, he might enter a second time and thus have two partners and each total can count in the standings. The bowler pays two entry fees. So the bowler could conceivably place both 4th and 12th for example and collect prize money twice. Assuming he bowls well, of course.

And, if it's something like mixed doubles, our entrant might have three partners during one squad, and four during another. And there might be several squads. Some tournaments have had as many as five squads. The software is flexible enough to handle all of this.

In order to keep it clear which games were bowled when, and to separate people into squads for possible intra-squad prizes, it is necessary to have slightly different designations for the same bowler. Let's say our bowler is Joe Smith. If he bowls in Squad 1, he's Joe Smith 1. If he also bowls the third squad, that time he's Joe Smith 3. Joe might thus appear several times in the Bowler Name Column on this worksheet, but with a different number suffix each time.

JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ENTRANTS WITH ALL OF THEIR ALTER EGOS DOESN'T EXCEED THE NUMBER OF PLACES THAT CAN BE HANDLED FOR THE EVENT. CURRENTLY THAT IS 100 MEN AND 100 WOMEN IN MULTI-FUNCTION MIXED DOUBLES, 200 MEN AND 200 WOMEN IN HIGH CAPACITY MIXED DOUBLES, 120 IN MEN'S OR WOMEN'S DOUBLES, THE FIRST 325 PLACES (ALL 200 IN THE BLUE SECTION AND THE FIRST 125 IN THE PINK SECTION) FOR ENHANCED GENERIC DOUBLES, AND THE FIRST 115 MEN PLACES AND FIRST 85 WOMEN PLACES FOR BASIC GENERIC DOUBLES.

Lesson 30 – Special Doubles Events – Part 2If you run the type of doubles tournament described in Lesson 29, you can use one of the extra columns (like the Extra Marking Column or even the Pot Game column) on the pertinent results sheet, such as the Mixed Doubles sheet, to designate which squad people are in. Use numbers. Then you can sort people by squad ahead of score totals and get rankings within squads which might be handy if you wish to have a squad pot that pays money to, for example, the top two bowlers in the squad. the Custom Sort function on the right mouse can easily handle sortings that involve several levels.

Page 20: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Lesson 31 – Elimination EventsSome tournament directors or groups like to run elimination events. These can be of several kinds but the general idea is that after those entering have bowled the first game, the field will be reduced to a certain number. For example, out of the 100 bowlers bowling in a league sweeper or other general event, 65 decide to enter the elimination event. The director or league secretary has set it up in advance that the top 30 handicap scorers from the first game will advance to the next round. Then after the second game, the top 15 of those will advance. Then those 15 will complete in the third game for the top 5 spots that will get paid.

Keeping track of who is still in the running is simple. On the results sheet for the event (e.g., generic singles), enter an "x" or other mark in an extra column such as the Extra Sorting Column before the first game is bowled for everyone who bought into the elimination pot game. After the first game, sort by that column in descending order before sorting by the applicable scoring column, such as Game 1 Handicap, in descending order. Remove the "x" marks across from all the bowlers down the rankings who didn't qualify high enough. Now you're ready for game #2. Do the same thing after the second game. After the third game, just sort the remaining qualifiers and pass out the money to the people who made it into the paying places.

Lesson 32A – Consolidating Winnings – Part 1Most leagues announce the winners in reverse order, such as starting with 12th place if they are going to pay 12 places. If it’s doubles, you hand each of the winners half the payout for that place as they come forward to collect. That way, everyone sees who placed at various levels.

However, some leagues would rather just announce that Joe Smith won $574 total and hand all his winnings for a doubles event to him at once. No countdown to the winner. No drama. Just cash in one big pile and race off to the blackjack tables. To do it this way, first sort the applicable results sheet (e.g. Mixed Doubles) by the criterion you are using for rankings, such as Pair Hdcp Series Total, highest to lowest. That gives you the ranked winners. Now you copy the payout list for that event from DivvyItUp! and paste it into the Payout Amount column. Or you could manually enter amounts that someone determined by some other method. That sets the amount each doubles pair won.

The software will automatically calculate how much each bowler in the pair gets.(continued in next lesson)

Lesson 32B – Consolidating Winnings – Part 2Now just go down the list and pay the amounts shown in the “Each Bowler Gets” column as the bowler steps forward with his grubby hand outstretched.

If the bowler is listed on several rows, such as rows 5, 6, and 7, just take your mouse, click on the first amount listed for the bowler, hold the Control key down, then click on the rest of the rows in the “Each Bowler Gets” column that are also for that bowler. The total of those amounts will be calculated in the Status Bar at the bottom of the Excel window, over toward the right.

Page 21: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Lesson 33 – Printing Special ColumnsEach sheet is pre-set for optimal printing of the basic rankings and payout information. However, if you want to print out a scores column for something non-standard, which is out of the ordinary print range, such as a Mulligan event for the 3 highest games or a pot game for the 2d handicap game, you can do that by copying the entire sheet over to a specially prepared printing sheet, then deleting or clearing columns you don't want to print. These specially prepared printing sheets are farthest to the right among the modules sheets, right after the Purchaser Info sheet.

To do this, copy the sheet you want to print from (e.g. mixed doubles) by clicking on the unmarked cell to the left of the A column label for the first column (it has a triangle in it pointing down and to the right), Copy (Ctl+c), then switch to any of the special printout sheets, go to cell A1, Paste (Ctl+v).

Now Delete (right click on column label such as F, Delete) the columns you don't want to print, such as the regular series scratch and series handicap columns and any columns between the Bowler Gets or Payouts Column (whichever is farther right) and the special column you want to print. Then highlight perhaps five or six columns to the right of the column you want to print, right click, Clear Contents.

Then print. Print Preview will show you what you're going to get if you're in doubt whether you did it correctly. The first specially set up print sheet has a completed example.

You can copy and paste repeatedly over the contents of a printout sheet.

Lesson 34 – Clear sample data, save fileNow that you have gone through the lessons, you may wish to try entering some sample data (in the white background cells only) to try out the features, in case you didn't already do that as you were reading the lessons. After experimenting, be sure to use Clear Contents to clear the sample data

When you have cleared all the sample data, do a Save As and save the file as an Excel Template. Before saving the file to your Templates folder as a template make sure you remove any "1" that Excel might have added to the filename. The now blanked (i.e. contains no user-generated data) template is now ready to use for future events.

Start each new tournament by going to New on the File menu and opening a copy of the template. Save it right away, giving it a descriptive name as explained in the lessons. Remember that if you name the files using the date syntax described in the lessons, the tournament records will appear in your hard drive index in chronological order.

Enjoy!

If You Purchased Matches Modules[NOT USED AT PRESENT IN SWEEPERBRAC] If you purchased software for handling match club/bowling center matches, and have first read and understand all the instructions for scoring basic league or tournament sweepers, please also scroll over to the Matches Section all the way to the right on this sheet. Read the instructions in the Header Row and the row below it.

That is where you will enter the names of bowling centers or match clubs and the names of specific teams fielded by them for a match. There are special rules for that because of the need to group all the teams from one house together.

Brackets Lessons

Brackets Instructions – 1In the Brackets modules, the operations are automatic except for specifying entrants in each bracket and using the optional use random positions scrambler which is included in each brackets module. Please read the Brackets instructions in any brackets module you use. Brackets modules are integrated with the regular games being bowled.

The scores and bowler names are drawn from the Games & Totals worksheet. They may also be drawn from a results sheet specially associated with the bracket event, such as the Mixed Doubles Single Partner sheet. Thus always remember to have the G&T sheet and any other involved sheet pre-sorted appropriately (by individuals or by teams). Otherwise the results you see will make no sense at all.

This brackets software may be used for multiple brackets events in the same tournament. In the standard bracket size group, there are four possible events: Games 1-2-3, Games 2-3-4, Games 4-5-6, and Games 6-7-8. If you are bowling 8 games, you could conceivably run all four events.

The Teams Brackets modules have a simplified setup. It is set up as a winner of the bracket takes all. Since multiple bowlers are used up on each bracket entry, it is assumed there will only be a few brackets used (and perhaps only one or two) unless you have a huge league or event. We hope you enjoy this special event which could be a lot of fun.

Brackets Instructions – 2In addition to the brackets modules themselves, we have provided a Brackets Entries sheets for determining how many brackets will be needed and for assisting you in placing entrants into brackets.

If you are running more than one singles bracket event, such as splitting the men and the women, you can make a copy or copies of the Brackets Entries - Singles sheet and use one for each part. Right click on the sheet tab, choose Move or Copy, then choose to Make a Copy. The word "MIXED" can be replaced on the sheet itself with WOMEN or MEN or whatever.

Page 23: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

And read the comment at the top on how to handle bowlers who want to enter all brackets or as many brackets as possible.

Brackets Instructions – 3We also provide total payout sheets ($$$ sheets) for the doubles and singles types of brackets that will determine how much money brackets entrants have won since individual bowlers or doubles pairs may get into many singles or doubles brackets in a particular bracket event (e.g. the games 2-3-4 event). You may wish to print and post these sheets.

Unless there are ties, the payout sheet ($$$ sheet) associated with any bracket event will instantly have the correct total winnings for each bowler or doubles pair. You can sort it by the $$$ column, largest to smallest to bring to the top the winners and the total amounts they are to receive for that bracket event.

However, if the Total Calculated Payout amount is greater than the Prize Fund amount shown on the associated Set & Adjust sheet, that indicates one or more ties. You must then locate the ties and adjust for them. the adjustment process is explained in Brackets lesson 5.

Brackets Instructions – 4Set & Adjust Sheet:

You set the dollar payouts for first and second places at the top of the Set & Adjust sheet associated with the bracket event. Just overwrite the default amounts (25 & 10) if necessary.

Note the Prize Fund amount in bold green which is calculated from the number of brackets used and the prize fund per bracket.

After bowling is complete, sort the Winners list by right clicking on the list header, and sorting Z to A. Do the same for the 2d Place list. This brings all the winners to the top for further processing by the software.

You can also make adjustments on this sheet for ties as explained in the next lesson.

Make no other entries on this sheet.

Brackets Instructions – 5What about ties? The software will indicate ties by showing more than one winner for a bracket and you can quickly check for them by scanning down the Round 3 Winners column to see if more than one name is shown as the winner for any bracket. Same thing for the 2d place Column.

Page 24: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Another indicator of a tie is that the Total Calculated Payout shown on the payout sheet is more than the Prize Fund amount indicated on the Set & Adjust sheet. If you see that, check for ties.

How to handle the money in cases of ties is up to you but our software can put your choices into effect. If you wish to use a coin flip or a rolloff to determine an absolute winner, which then relegates the other bowler to second place, do that.

Or you could allow the two bowlers to split the total money for first and second.

After you have made your decision, which logically should be made before the event starts, make the adjustments described in the next lesson if ties adjustments are necessary.

Brackets Instructions – 6Go to the Set & Adjust sheet associated with your bracket event.

If you determined a first and second by, for example, a rolloff, then adjust the losing bowler by entering a -1 in the winner adjust area. Also enter a "1" in the second place adjust area for the losing bowler, thus giving him second place money.

If you decide to just split the total of first and second place money, give each bowler a -.5 adjustment in the winners area and a .5 adjustment in the second place area.

Three way tie? Adjust -.67 and .33.

Brackets Instructions – 7If you purchased either of the Mixed Doubles Single Partner brackets packs, these can be used in a variety of bracket events, such as an adult and a junior, parent and child, etc.

Money and winners are keyed off the Mixed Doubles Single Partner pair numbers. Scores come from the MDSP sheet so that sheet MUST be sorted to the default position in order to score those brackets.

Brackets Instructions – 8In the singles and doubles brackets, you can have the software total up winnings for any bowler or doubles pair for that bracket event (e.g. a singles bracket event for games 4-5-6). To do this, you must "activate" each bracket you use. This is done in Column B on the brackets sheet. To activate a bracket, simply change the RED 0 to a 1. You do not touch the black zeroes. They change automatically. Now the rest of the software will kick in and total up winnings, which is useful in a large brackets event that might have 30 or 40 brackets and bowlers entering into multiple brackets.

Brackets Instructions – 9There is sample marking data entered into the first couple of brackets in the Singles H&S 1-2-3 brackets module. After you learn how to use everything, just use Clear

Contents to remove that sample data from the file before you use Save As to store the file on your computer's hard drive as a template in the Templates folder.

Brackets Instructions – 10We have also included a Random Brackets Assignments Tool (in a separate file) which you may find useful. Use it after you have the money collected, have set the number of brackets you are going to run, and have the total entries pared to a multiple of 8. You could just manually put people into brackets randomly in the case of large events and entrants wanting to get into multiple brackets but use of this kind of tool at least settles any questions about whether the placing of Joe Smith's 5 entries into particular brackets was truly random.

We suggest you experiment with the various placement tools and use the tool or tools that feels right to you.

Games & Totals Sheet Header Row Hints – Main Section

Tracking ID #This is a special column where tournament club, bowling center, and other similar types of managers of tournaments and tournament club events can enter an RCP Software Tracking ID #, to be used in conjunction with RCP BowlerTracker, a separate, matched application used to track the performance over time of regular tournament bowlers. If you do not have BowlerTracker, you will not be using this column.

Match Team NumberThis feature is not used in SweeperBrac at this time due to computer power limitations. As the average computer sold in stores becomes more capable, such features will be added to SweeperBrac. The feature allowing scoring of matches between houses/clubs is found in SweeperScore now.

Team #If you have extras on a team, for non-participating bowlers on Team 4 for example, change number for such extra bowlers to z04. Remember that the number of positions used in this column for a team must match the number of persons on the standard team. So if you have only 3 bowlers on a team in a 4-person league, enter another bowler as "Vacant" with the team number designation (e.g. Vacant 07) , as described in the general instructions for Column I. If scoring a match club event, DO NOT use this column. Use the Match Team Number Column to the left and the system described in the Matches section, starting at Column BE.

Handicap Per GameEnter per game handicap in this column. Series handicap is computed based on the number of games to be bowled that you enter in Cell AL1. That number is set to 3 by default. If you will bowl a different number of games, you must modify that default setting.

Page 26: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Event ID #This is a number that uniquely identifies each bowler for this sweeper event. Leave this column alone except to sort by it. NEVER CHANGE OR DELETE ANY NUMBER IN THIS COLUMN.

AverageGenerally used only for the special Hi-Low Doubles event.

Bowler NameAll teams must be full. If you have 4-man teams, for example, you must have 4 bowlers (i.e. 4 rows) assigned to each team number for the team event. Use the following syntaxes for vacant bowlers: Vacant Man 04A; Vacant Woman 04A; Vacant Woman 04B; Vacant Bowler 04A. Use the latter syntax for unified (or all one gender) tournaments or sweepers. Extra bowlers (e.g., 5th bowler on 4-man team) may be entered but team number of any non-participating bowler must be coded in the following syntax: z03 to indicate an extra for team 3. You can easily exchange such bowlers at the last second by switching the designations of the two bowlers involved.

Round Robin Mixed DoublesThis column and the six columns after it are used to "enter" a bowler into any special round-robin (everybody in with everybody) non-team event such as Round Robin Mixed Doubles, Round Robin Generic Doubles, or Round Robin Men's or Women's Doubles. Also enter bowlers here into any other additional events you may have purchased such as Men's or Women's Singles, Generic Singles, or Hi-Low Doubles. Non-round robin (opt-in method) entries to doubles events are made on the corresponding results sheet (e.g. Mixed Doubles) instead of here.IF YOU ARE CONDUCTING A ROUND ROBIN DOUBLES EVENT, THIS SECTION IS WHERE YOU ENTER AND REMOVE BOWLERS.'EASYENTER" FEATURE: A "1" enters the bowler. Clear the "1" to take the person out of the event. If Susie stayed in the casino in Reno with Mr. Marino to play Keno instead of coming to the sweeper, use your right mouse button and the Clear Contents command to quickly remove her from the special events. The individualized "Opt-In" entry method is handled directly on the doubles results sheet involved.

Round Robin Generic Doubles – BasicRemember that the events listed in these seven special Columns are all Round Robin by default and a "1" puts the bowler in with everyone else entered in that event. If you are using the Opt-In method for entries (John & Susie each hand you a buck to get in together), MAKE NO MARK HERE FOR THAT EVENT. INSTEAD, go to the specific results sheet (e.g. Generic Doubles) and make the entry mark there.

Round Robin Generic Doubles – EnhancedNote there are TWO Generic Doubles Round Robin entry columns here - Basic and Enhanced. Be sure to use the correct one that matches the kind of generic doubles module you purchased.

Page 27: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Men’s or Generic SinglesUse this column to enter a bowler into the Men's Singles. It can also be used in conjunction with the Generic Singles results sheet to enter bowlers into a large (up to 400 bowlers) generic singles event where the group is all one gender or gender is disregarded.

Women’s SinglesThis is the Women's Singles entry column.

Round Robin Men’s DoublesRound Robin entry into Men's Doubles.

Round Robin Women’s DoublesRound Robin entry into Womens' Doubles

Scratch Series TotalDon't touch anything in this column or the next one.

Handicap Series TotalA calculated column. DO NOT TOUCH IT.

Game 1The area from the Tracking ID Column through Game 8 Hdcp Column is the "core" data. This is where you enter and make changes to bowler information and their scores and where certain interim computations are made for you. BUT DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING IN ANY CELL WITH A GRAYED BACKGROUND. For example, white background columns starting at Game 1 hold the scratch scores. The Hdcp per Game Column holds the bowler's handicap. Etc. You enter information in those white background cells.

Game 2REMEMBER: If it's white, that's where you write; if it's gray, stay away.

Number of Games To Be Bowled → (2 columns applicable)In the cell to the right, you will enter the number of games to be bowled in your sweeper or other special event. The default number is 3. If you're going to bowl a 7 game singles event, change it to 7. This number is used to compute total handicap.

“3” – default numberNumber of games to be bowled.

Data To right assumes Games & Totals portion is sorted by TeamIf you want results for a team event, you must sort the core data, which is over to the left, by Team #, in ascending order, before any of the results in the columns to the right will make any sense. And the team totals tallied here are just for keeping a running tally during the middle of a sweeper on what has been bowled so far. When the event is finished. you will want to get final teams results from the sorted teams results sheets (e.g. Trios, Fours, Fives).

Page 28: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Team NamesAfter you enter team names below, they will show up on the team results sheets (Fives, Fours, Trios) next to the team numbers. Be sure to enter the team names in the right section. The first section is for fives. Fours and trios are lower down the sheet. There is an expansion section for Trios below the Fours area to cover Trios teams numbered from 61 through 100 which you may use IF YOU PURCHASED THE TRIOS+MC results module.THIS NUMBERING SYSTEM IS NOT USED FOR NUMBERING TEAMS BOWLING IN CLUB/HOUSE MATCHES THAT USE THE SPECIAL MATCHES SCORING SOFTWARE. FOR THOSE EVENTS, SEE THE MATCHES SECTION STARTING AT COLUMN BE.

Team #The TEAM results shown here are only for quick reference while an event is still in progress. (Horizontal scroll bars are fast, aren't they?) These results are not sortable. Presumably, you will have left the core data sorted by Team # for easy entry of scores. Note that the at-a-glance results shown below WILL NOT MAKE ANY SENSE UNLESS THE CORE DATA IS SORTED BY TEAM # IN ASCENDING ORDER.

Games & Totals Header Row Hints – Bowling Center/Club Matches SectionThis feature is not yet enabled in SweeperBrac due to the general inability of the average laptop computer to process this additional data/feature. It will be added in the future as average computer power increases. It is available in the current version of SweeperScore.

Men’s, Women’s, & Generic Singles Results Sheets Header Row Hints

Bowler NameOn this results sheet, the first level sort to isolate those bowlers who entered this event at the top is Entered. You will find Entered in the Custom Sort dialog box on the Sort By list. Right mouse button, Sort, Custom Sort. Sort at Level 1 by Entered, largest to smallest. Then sort by what you want to rank, such as the Handicap Series Total.

People will have been entered by placing a "1" in the appropriate column (M) on the G&T worksheet.

Payout Amount $$$You will import a payout distribution from DivvyItUp! into this column after the winners have been sorted to the top.

Pot GameIf you have a sidepot going, an "x" puts the specified pair into the sidepot. Remember to sort at Level 1 by this criterion if you are determining sidepot winners. Then sort at level 2 by what you are rank ordering, such as the pair handicap scores for game 7. And, in answer to a query and request we received, it is now possible to have multiple pot

Page 29: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

games going simultaneously. Designate each pot game by a letter or number. For example, s for the scratch pot, h for the handicap pot, 3 for the third pot. Sort at level 1 by this column, largest to smallest, then by the event you are sorting. All entrants into any pot will now be grouped together. Highest is the winner, next is second, etc.

Extra Sorting ColumnThis column can be used to sort by some additional factor such as one customer suggested - splitting a group or league into high average bowlers (H) and low average bowlers (L) for the singles event. If you then sort at the first level, you can put either sub-group at the top, depending on whether you sort A to Z or Z to A. Then you sort at the second level by what you want to score, such as the handicap series total. This combination sort will put either sub-group at the top, directly across from the rankings column.

Brackets Entries – Singles Worksheet

NameThis is a special worksheet to make it easier for tournament directors to set up brackets. It's not absolutely required that you use this sheet but it might make overall setup and management of brackets easier if you do, particularly if you have bowlers who want to get into a lot of brackets.

Don’t change anything in this column. It is linked to the basic bowler data entered in the G&T worksheet.

It is suggested you use this worksheet to get the brackets basically organized before you actually enter any bowlers into any brackets on any of the brackets sheets.

All men and women are listed here.

ID #This column is also linked. Don't change any entries.

# of paid scratch brackets entriesIn this column and the next one you can enter the number of brackets a bowler wants to enter as the bowler signs up and pays for the brackets. One column for scratch brackets and one for handicap.

Note commentIf 1 to 4 bowlers request to be entered into all available brackets, list them here, starting in cell M4, as they request that.

Limit 4 because there are only 8 entrants into each bracket. If, for example, one bowler does that, the software will compute how many brackets of 7 other entrants each are required.

Page 30: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Singles Handicap & Singles 1-2-3 Brackets Results (Applies also to the 2-3-4, 4-5-6, and 6-7-8 sheets; to the Large Singles Brackets sheets. It also applies to the Mixed Doubles Single Partner Brackets sheets except where there is a superseding instruction in the detailed instructions below in the special section for that unique event.)

Cell A1Almost everything in this integrated brackets module is automatic but you will make entry marks in the brackets entry area over to your right and you can randomly scramble the positions of bowlers in each bracket.

THIS IS A NON-TEAM EVENT SO BEFORE DOING ANYTHING WITH THIS BRACKETS MODULE (such as entering bowlers into a bracket) BE SURE THAT THE GAMES & TOTALS SHEET IS SORTED TO THE DEFAULT POSITION. THAT IS WHERE THE EVENT ID NUMBERS ARE IN ASCENDING ORDER.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE G&T CORRECTLY PRE-SORTED, NOTHING YOU SEE OR DO ON THIS SHEET WILL MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL.

Slightly different versions of this universal RCP Brackets module integrate with a variety of RCP Software primary scoring applications.

General instructions for using this integrated brackets module are contained in the cells in this column and in the Header Row that contain a red triangle.

There are additional instructions for the Random Position Generator area of this module, which is over to the right and in the brackets entry area further to the right.

Please note carefully that the handicap brackets are at the top in this results area on results sheets that have both handicap and scratch brackets. Handicap brackets also come first in the entry area which starts just past the Random Position Generator.

This sheet outputs automatically to the associated Set & Adj sheet where dollar totals are calculated and you set the amount to be won for 1st & 2d places. That sheet outputs automatically to the $$$ sheet which can be sorted by winning dollar totals and by names or pair numbers for purposes of payouts and posting.

Cell B1In this column you will "activate" all the brackets you are using. Change the default RED "0" to a "1" (cells B2, B10, B18 etc.) to activate the bracket. The first handicap bracket is activated by default on the mixed H&S sheets as an example but you can deactivate it if you will only be doing scratch brackets.

The effect of activating a bracket is to output its data to the related Brackets Set & Adjust Sheet where the total winnings will be computed for each participating bowler, with the results then being forwarded to the associated payout sheet.

Page 31: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Random Position GeneratorThis tool can be used to randomly scramble the order of the 8 bowlers entered into each bracket. It's optional, of course, but using it would tend to settle arguments about how certain bowlers were placed in certain positions in the various brackets.

"It's the computer's fault!!"

This column contains 8 specially coded cells at the top. Do not attempt to change ANYTHING in this column under any circumstances.

The only thing you will do with these 8 cells is to copy them (highlight the 8 cells as a group, then Ctl+c). Then hit the right cursor arrow.

DO NOT DELETE anything in this column or the two columns to the right of it.

Random ValuesNow the Row 2 cell in this column will be the active cell.

Paste (Ctl + v). Every time you perform this operation, the values in the Random Generator column will change.

Now sort the Random Values column, smallest to largest or largest to smallest, whichever way floats your boat. This will rescramble the numbers 1 through 8 in the column to your right. You will use the resulting sequence to replace the eight "1's" that were sorted to the top in each filled up bracket entry area. Just copy the sequence in the # Column and paste it right over the "1's".

Last, you sort the position numbers in each bracket. to do that, make one of the cells in the position numbers list the active cell. And be sure to place your mouse cursor over the position numbers column, with it also being over the top portion where the numbers are. Then use your right mouse button Shortcut Menu and sort smallest to largest.

Do this process for each bracket after you have filled all 8 positions in the bracket.

Now each bracket has randomly positioned entrants.

#The numbers provided in this column are not to be deleted.

When you first receive the software, there will be sample data entries in the Marking Columns (white background columns) in the first two brackets on the Singles H&S 1-2-3 Brackets results sheet showing what a filled bracket looks like and what a filled bracket with overlaid randomly generated position numbers looks like. After noting that appearance, you should highlight the sample numbers in the Marking Columns and use Clear Contents to remove the examples.

Quick Step-by-Step Random Positioning Tool Usage Summary/Checklist:

Page 32: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

1) Highlight the Random Position Generator numbers2) Copy 3) Right cursor arrow4) Paste5) Down cursor arrow6) Sort Random Values column7) Copy # Column numbers8) Paste them over the "1's" in a bracket9) Sort the position numbers in the bracket

The Entry Marking Column (Has a white number on a red background in the Header Row)In this column you will mark the individual bowler, doubles pair, or team as being entered into the bracket. You do that by simply entering a “1” in this column next to the name. When the bracket is filled, the number at the top will read “8”.

In order to be able to quickly find a bowler or a pair to mark them as entered, you may find it helpful to first sort the bowler names alphabetically. After the bracket is filled with 8 entrants, sort this column largest to smallest to bring the 8 entrants to the top. Then you will use an overlay produced by the Random Position Generator to randomly assign a position number to each entrant. Then you will sort this column, smallest to largest, to randomly place the entrants into the bracket positions.

Bracket 1 Bowler Names (But see separate version below for MD SP brackets)Although you have heard this warning before, we will repeat it. If it's white, that's where you write; if it's gray, stay away. That means you can make a grayed cell active for sorting purposes but don't manually change the contents.

After bowlers' names have been entered on the Games & Totals Worksheet, you will probably wish to sort the bowler names in each bracket you are going to use, sorting A to Z, so you can find people quickly to enter them into a bracket.

You can scroll down to a bowler's name quickly using Page Down. Then make the "1" mark in the Entry Mark Column (which is Column AQ in this bracket).

In each of these brackets entry sections you will mark entrants by placing a "1" in the Entry Mark Column at the left side. The Entry Mark Column has a white background. The white on red number at the top will keep a tally of how many bowlers you have entered into the bracket. You will need to enter 8 bowlers in each bracket of course.

Game 1 (2 in 2-3-4; 4 in 4-5-6; 6 in 6-7-8)After you have 8 entrants, you can sort them to the top by placing your mouse cursor over a white background cell in the Entry Mark Column and sort largest to smallest or smallest to largest. It makes no difference.

Page 33: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

This sorting will bring all eight entrants to the top of the bracket, placing them in the first eight scoring rows (Rows 2 through 9) and thus entering them and their scores into the results portion of the brackets module, which is the Columns at the far left.

Note that when you replace the "1's" with the scrambled numbers 1 through 8, the total at the top will show 36.

Game 2 (3 in 2-3-4; 5 in 4-5-6; 7 in 6-7-8)The results portion of this Brackets Module, over at the left, picks up the scores from the various brackets areas. So until you have sorted the entrants to the top, the results portion will not reflect those bowlers' scores.

Don't forget to use the Random Position Generator to randomly position bowlers in the various brackets.

And you may also wish to use the Random Brackets Assignments Tool or other provided tools to randomly place entrants into brackets.

Cell A2Take a look at the area right near here. This is the results area. The bracket number is in Column A.

Cell A3Column A is color coded to match the handicap (green) and scratch (blue) brackets, as a reminder to be sure you're looking for results in the right area.

Cell A4All the entries in this results area are automatic except for the entries into cells B2, B10, B18, etc. which "activate" the brackets. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the display. As soon as scores are entered on the Games & Totals sheet, this area will update instantly.

Cell A8Just to the right of the results area is a Random Position Generator tool for randomly scrambling the positions of bowlers entered into any bracket. The simple instructions for using that tool are contained in the header row in that area.

Cell A9To the right of the scrambling tool is the brackets entry area. Note the color coding at the top to match the color coding in Column A. Handicap brackets also have a title in the Bowler Names column like 1H while scratch brackets will have a title like 3S.

This is an integrated module. The names and scores are picked up from the Games & Totals sheet. MAKE NO NAME OR SCORE ENTRIES EVER IN THE BRACKETS MODULE.

Page 34: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Cell A10Remember the RCP Software advice, "If it's white, that's where you write; if it's gray, stay away."

That means you don't manually change anything in a grayed cell in the brackets entry area. It is all computed.

You will only make marks and paste number sequences in the white background column at the left side of each brackets entry area.

You can, however, make a cell in the names column active and then sort it like from A to Z in order to be able to find bowlers' names faster so you can mark them as entrants in the bracket.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS TOTALLY AUTOMATIC IN THE ENTRY AREA

Cell A11If you want to print out the results, you will need to use Landscape mode. Normally you will print out the $$$ sheet associated with the brackets set to show who won how much.

Complete your reading of the instructions now by reading the comments in the header row for columns starting with the Random Position Generator Column and continuing in the first bracket headers.

Singles Handicap & Scratch 1-2-3, 2-3-4, 4-5-6, and 6-7-8 Brackets Set & Adjust Worksheets; Large Singles Brackets Set & Adjust Worksheets

Instructions RemindersOn this sheet you:

1) Set the first and second place prize amounts

2) After bowling is completed, sort the winners and second places by right clicking on the orange Sort Winners and Sort Second Places and sort them Z to A. This brings all winners' names into the processing zone at the top.

3) Compare the Prize Fund amount and the Total Calculated Payout amount on the associated payout sheet. If the latter is larger, find the ties and make adjustments as described below.

4) Make adjustments for winner and 2d place ties according to whatever method you choose.

A -1 adjustment cancels a prize and a -.5 adjustment splits it. A 1 adjustment adds a prize and a .5 adjustment adds half a prize.

Brackets $$$ sheets (Payouts Sheets)On these payouts sheets the total winnings for each participating bowler in the particular bracket (e.g. Singles H&S 1-2-3) tournament associated with the payout sheet will appear in the A & B columns. Be sure, before starting to hand out money, to always check that the Total Calculated Payouts amount matches the Prize Fund amount on the associated Set & Adjust sheet. The amounts will match if there are no ties.

Mixed Doubles – Multi-Functional, and Mixed Doubles – High Capacity results sheetsThe full set is included in the workbook comments only on the Multi-Functional sheet due to space limitations on the high capacity sheet.

Pair #Instructions here generally apply to all doubles results sheet except where elsewhere noted.

The results on this sheet are computed so DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING IN THE GRAYED CELLS, except for possibly changing some column titles, as explained in connection with certain special events such as adult/junior events.

The default position for this sheet is to have it sorted by Pair # in ascending order.

Before the results on this sheet will make any sense at all, the G&T sheet must be pre-sorted by Event ID # in ascending order.

ManIf you have a huge league or event with all one gender, or you are not making a distinction between men and women, then don't use a Mixed Doubles results worksheet (use a Generic Doubles sheet instead). These Mixed sheets are only to be used for a mixed combination, such as a man and a woman. As explained in the lessons, however, you can replace "Man" with "Adult" and replace "Woman" with "Junior" to score a special Adult/Junior mixed event.

Always remember that before you do anything on this results worksheet, the core data on the G&T worksheet MUST be pre-sorted by Event ID # in ascending order.

Payout Amount $$$You can import a payout distribution from DivvyItUp! or your own payout list into this column after the winners have been sorted to the top. After you have entered a payout distribution here, the amount each bowler gets will be computed and will appear in the Each Bowler Gets Column.

Each Bowler Gets $$Automatically calculated column. LEAVE IT ALONE!!

Page 36: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

Opt-in to Mixed DoublesAs described earlier, put an "x" in this column to enter a specified pair if you are using that method instead of round robin to enter pairs. When you sort, sort at Level 1 by this criterion to isolate the paid pairs at the top of the results list. Then sort at level 2 by whatever you want to determine, such as the rankings for the pair scratch series.

Pot Game(s)If you have a sidepot going, an "x" puts the specified pair into the sidepot. Remember to sort at Level 1 by this criterion if you are determining sidepot winners. Then sort at level 2 by what you are rank ordering, such as the pair handicap scores for game 7. And, in answer to a query and request we received, it is now possible to have multiple pot games going simultaneously.

The remain mixed doubles instructions below are embedded in the multi-functional sheet but not in the high capacity sheet due to space limitations. Some parts apply only to the multi-functional sheet such as sorting by individual games. The parts are just numbered below. They apply generally to the sheet and not just or even necessarily to the column in which the comment is embedded on the sheet.

#1Starting with the 2010 version of this software, the multi-functional version of the Mixed Doubles results sheet has hugely expanded capabilities. You may sort the data by any of the visible columns. And even by some you can't see. The possible sortings are listed in the Sort dialog box. Right mouse button, Sort, Custom Sort. The most common sorting would be by the Pair Handicap Series Total in descending (largest to smallest) order. Second most likely is the Pair Scratch Series Total. The titles of those columns are thus highlighted in red and white. Note that since you can sort (rank order) the data by a wide variety of criteria, you could do things like run a pot game for each game, run both scratch and handicap pots, have mixed doubles event scoring by scratch and/or handicap, and probably a lot of other things.

#2In response to several special requests on the subject, this sheet now has the capability of sorting mixed pair totals by both scratch and handicap. Furthermore, you can now sort each game by itself so, to the folks who asked about running doubles pot games for

Page 37: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

each game as well as for the series total, or just generally dividing up doubles money into parts for each game as well as for series, we heard you. All of these sorting choices will be found on the Sort By list in the Custom Sort dialog box. You can get to it through the shortcut menu on the right mouse button. Sort, Custom Sort. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS sort at the first level by either Round Robin or Opt-in to limit the people at the top to those who are entered in this event.

#3The vast majority of leagues and tournaments like to use the Round Robin approach to doubles. In that approach, everybody is in with everybody by default. Only if someone is specifically taken out (like where John breaks his thumb two days before the event and can't bowl), or John never coughs up the cash for the event, are there any possible pairs not in the event. Removals of bowlers from any round-robin event are done on the Games & Totals worksheet.

#4Since "Round Robin" is the most common method for running doubles events, it has been set up in the 2010 and later versions of this software for quick entry, and particularly quick removal of bowlers, right on the G&T worksheet, using the EasyEnter method. Look at Columns J through P on that sheet. A "1" puts someone into an event; clearing the "1" takes them out. Events using Round Robin must be sorted at Level 1 on this sheet by Round Robin value, largest to smallest, before sorting by any other criterion at Level 2 or further.

#5If you are using the Round Robin method, the first level sort of this worksheet MUST be by that criterion. It isn't visible but it's on the Sort By list in the Custom Sort dialog box. Right mouse button, Sort, Custom Sort. Sort by Round Robin at Level 1. Sort largest to smallest. Then sort at Level 2 by whatever you want to rank order such as sorting Pair Game 2 Handicap by largest to smallest to determine the handicap winning pair for game 2.

#6As noted in earlier instructions, you can put people into these special events and take them out quickly. Recalculating money if someone wants to get in at the very last second, and comes to you with $25 in their hand and tears in their eyes, has been a pain for league secretaries and tournament managers in the past. But we have a solution. Look at the DivvyItUp! utility application. It can calculate and recalculate place money in an instant for a wide variety of distributions. You can import a payout distribution list from DivvyItUp! to a results list you are printing from SuperSweeperScore. You can import a DivvyItUp! payout list in this results sheet by copying it and then going to cell BL2 on this sheet after you have first sorted by scores to determine the rankings. DivvyItUp! is $25 plus tax but you may have it for $20 since you purchased a primary scoring application.

Page 38: rcpsoftware.com file · Web viewSweeperBrac 2015 Compiled Instructions & Hints. As of December 15, 2014. Contents. Overview5. Introduction6. Basic Lessons – on Games & Totals Sheet7

#7Hint: Using your knowledge about splitting a window screen, you can insert a vertical split bar and scroll the Rank column over closer to the names when it's time to announce the winners and rankings.

#8Some league secretaries like to take a dollar or two dollars from each pair that wants to enter a doubles event. This one-pair-at-a-time entry method is called "Opt-In" here. If you want to use that method, then instead of entering people into this event with a "1" on the G&T worksheet, use the Opt-in to Mixed Doubles Column on this sheet. Just enter an "x" in that column on the row that holds the two bowlers' names. Remember that the G&T sheet must first be pre-sorted by Event ID # before making any entries on any doubles results sheet.

#9If you use the Opt-In method, then your first level sort will Sort By Opt-In, in descending (largest to smallest) order. Then sort at the second level by the item you want to put in rank order such as the Pair Handicap Series Total.

#10Note that at special times of the year, like Halloween or Valentines Day, you may want to run a special doubles event during your regular league night like a Witch & Wizard Doubles or Sweetheart Doubles, using the Opt-In method. Men, just be sure to pick your wife as your first partner, even if your health & accident insurance is all paid up.

Mixed Doubles – Single Partner

Man or SeniorThis is a special kind of mixed doubles. Enter pairs in this event by marking the Opt-In Column which is over to the right. First level of the multi-level sort to determine winners is by Opt-In To Mixed Doubles, largest to smallest, or Z to A, which brings the entrants to the top for further sorting.

Payout Amount $$$You can import a payout distribution from DivvyItUp! or your own payout list into this column after the winners have been sorted to the top. After you have entered a payout distribution here, the amount each bowler gets will be computed and will appear in the Each Bowler Gets Column.

Opt-in To Mixed Doubles Single PartnerAs described earlier, put an "x" in this column to enter a specified pair if you are using that method instead of round robin to enter pairs.

Brackets Entries – Mixed Doubles Single Partner

Man or SeniorThis is a special worksheet to make it easier for tournament directors to set up mixed doubles brackets where each bowler has a single partner. It's not absolutely required that you use this sheet but it might make overall setup and management of brackets easier if you do, particularly if you have bowlers who want to get into a lot of brackets.

Don’t change anything in this column or the next two columns. The first two columns are linked to the basic bowler data entered in the G&T worksheet.

It is suggested you use this worksheet to get the mixed doubles single partner brackets basically organized before you actually enter any bowlers into any brackets on any of the brackets sheets.

Pair #Don't change any entries in this column. But you could sort by this column to return the sheet to its default position if you sorted by names earlier.

# of paid scratch brackets entriesIn this column and the next one you can enter the number of brackets a bowler wants to enter as the bowler signs up and pays for the brackets. One column for scratch brackets and one for handicap.

Mixed Doubles Single Partner Handicap Brackets sheet – special instructions for this unique eventSee earlier general instructions for singles brackets. Those instructions apply unless superseded by these special instructions. The instructions set forth here are special additional instructions that apply only to the brackets associated with a Mixed Doubles Single Partner event which is a unique type of event with special considerations including special pairing and pair numbering rules.

Cell C1 – Bowler # or Pair #As indicated in the instructions for entering names on the Games & Totals sheet, the Mixed Doubles Single Partner event is a special event and is set up a special way. Man 0001 MUST BE PAIRED WITH Woman 0001. Together they constitute team MDSP00001.

Cell D1Mixed Doubles Single Partner Brackets is a unique type of event which draws its data from BOTH the Games & Totals sheet and from the Mixed Doubles - Single Partner sheet. For that reason, the Mixed Doubles - Single Partner sheet must ALSO be sorted to the default position - which means with the Single Partner Pair # column in ascending (smallest to largest) order - before you do anything on this sheet.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE G&T SHEET OR ANY INVOLVED RESULTS SHEET THAT IS A SCORE SOURCE CORRECTLY PRE-SORTED, NOTHING YOU SEE OR DO ON BRACKETS SHEETS WILL MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL.

Bracket 1 Bowler Names (MDSP Brackets version)Although you have heard this warning before, we will repeat it. If it's white, that's where you write; if it's gray, stay away. That means you can make a grayed cell active for sorting purposes but don't manually change the contents.

After bowlers' names have been entered on the Games & Totals Worksheet, you will probably wish to sort the bowler pairs names in each bracket you are going to use, sorting A to Z, so you can find people quickly to enter them into a bracket. Suggested sort is by the first listed name (man). Then search for the man’s name. Just remember the Mixed Doubles SP sheet must ALSO be first sorted to the default (Pair numbers ascending) position. That will almost always be the sorting position for that sheet when you are signing people up for brackets but if the sorting of that sheet was caused to be changed for any reason, you have to have that sheet pre-sorted again before doing anything with brackets because that sheet is the direct score and name source.

You can scroll down to a bowler's name quickly using Page Down. Then make the "1" mark in the Entry Mark Column at the left side.

In each of these brackets entry sections you will mark entrants by placing a "1" in the Entry Mark Column at the left side. The Entry Mark Column has a white background. The white on red number at the top will keep a tally of how many bowler pairs you have

entered into the bracket. You will need to enter 8 pairs of bowlers in each bracket of course.

Second/Last Names (Applies only to MD SP brackets)MDSP brackets have two columns for bowler names. However, results displayed over at the left-hand side of the sheet are linked to the Pair # which is the unique identifier for the pair.

Men’s, Women’s, and Generic Doubles

Pair #Men's & Women's Doubles and Generic Doubles sheets function like the Mixed Doubles results sheets. You will use a multi-level sort. If you are using the Round Robin approach, remember to sort at the first level by Round Robin, largest to smallest. That choice will appear on the list of columns in the "Sort By" part of the Custom Sort function, even though the column itself is not visible in this display.

If you are using the Opt-in method, sort at the first level by that factor, largest to smallest. Then sort at the second level by Pair Handicap Series Total, or by Pair Scratch Series Total, largest to smallest to determine winners.

Cell D1There are two lists of bowler names for each doubles event. Each combination of any two particular bowlers appears only once. If you are using the Opt-in method, and you don’t find Joe/Sam, then look for Sam/Joe.

You may find it helpful in finding bowler name combinations to first sort the names alphabetically. Use a two-level Sort, sorting at the first level by the left column, then at the second level by the right column.

Trios/Fours/Fives Results Sheets

Cell C1Remember that this is a team event results sheet so the Games & Totals sheet must first be sorted by Team # in ascending order before using this sheet. In Match Club events, team names DO NOT APPEAR HERE.

Team sheets have a "Lane" column so you can indicate where each team is bowling.

Team #If you purchased the [Trios/Fours/Fives] Matches module and are using it to score a match club event, this Team # Column must be sorted to the default position which is in ascending order. Sorting to determine matches winners will be done by the match software.

Teams Brackets (Trios, Fours, Fives)

Cell A1Almost everything in this integrated brackets module is automatic but you will make entry marks in the brackets entry area over to your right and you can randomly scramble the positions of teams in each bracket. It operates much like singles brackets.

THIS IS A TEAM EVENT SO BEFORE DOING ANYTHING WITH THIS BRACKETS MODULE (such as entering teams into a bracket) BE SURE THAT THE GAMES & TOTALS SHEET IS SORTED BY TEAM NUMBERS IN ASCENDING ORDER. REMEMBER YOU MUST HAVE "VACANT BOWLER" POSITION FILLERS FOR ANY TEAM THAT IS MISSING A BOWLER

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE G&T CORRECTLY PRE-SORTED, NOTHING YOU SEE OR DO ON THIS SHEET WILL MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL.

General instructions for using this integrated brackets module are contained in the cells in this column that contain a red triangle.

There are additional instructions for the random scrambling area of this module, which is over to the right (AH through AJ), and in the brackets entry area further to the right.

Please note carefully that this module is set up to handle handicap brackets ONLY.

Instructions for Random Position Generator and entering and sorting within each bracket are the same as for singles brackets. Please refer to those instructions.
