HISTORYGames played with curved sticks and a ball can be found in the histories of many cultures. In Egypt, 4000-year-old carvings feature teams with sticks and a projectile, hurling dates to before 1272 BC in Ireland, and there is a depiction from approximately 600 BC in Ancient Greece, where the game may have been called kerētízein because it was played with a horn or horn-like stick (kéras, κέρας). In Inner Mongolia, the Daur people have been playing beikou, a game similar to modern field hockey, for about 1,000 years.

Most evidence of hockey-like games during the Middle Ages is found in legislation concerning sports and games. The Galway Statute enacted in Ireland in 1527 banned certain types of ball games, including games using "hooked" (written "hockie", similar to "hooky") sticks. This seems to be the origin of the name hockey (hook , gancho).

The practice of indoor hockey dates from the star of the twentieth century. The impossibility to playing hockey on grass during the winter months in the muddy and frozen fields led different clubs to train and played in covered places.

PLAYING AREAThe dimensions of an

indoor hockey field are 18-22 meters wide by 36-44 meters long, with wooden sidebands of a meter high. The goals measures are 3x2 m.

DURATIONA match has two 20 minutes halves with a break of 5 minutes at half time.

PLAYERS

Hello guys! How are you doing? In this unit your going to discover the secrets of one of the most important sports in some countries such as India , Argentina or Netherlands

What’s hockey? We call hockey to a group of team sports with different variants such as field hockey, indoor field hockey, roller hockey, inline hockey, ice hockey ore ven floorball. The common element among these kind of sports is above all the use of stick.

The team is composed of five field players and a goalkeeper. The goalkeeper must wear protective helmet and pads to protect the body.

MAIN RULES The players can only do contact with the ball using the stick, except for the goalkeepers who can do it

with your hands within the limits of the goal area without holding the ball. You cannot raise the ball except shooting at goal. To score a goal, players must throw the ball inside the goal area. You can never throw the stick.

SANTIONS:

Free push to the opposing team (golpe franco).

When a defender makes an unintentionally foul outside the area but within the half pitch that they are defending. It takes close to where the infraction occurred and it involves pushing (push) the stopped ball.

The penalty corner:

a. It is when a defender makes a foul inside the goal area but it was not probably goalb. for an intentional offense outside his area but within the half court defendingc. or intentionally a defender sends the ball by back line.

The ball is placed on the back line inside the area at least 6 meters from the goal-post and on whichever side of the goal by the attacking team prefers.Until the ball has been played, no attacker other than the one taking the push from the goal line is allowed to enter the circle or to be within 3 meters of the ball. The defending goalkeeper must be in goal and the other defenders must be behind the baseline to the opposite side of the goal where the penalty to be taken (see picture).

The penalty stroke:

a .It is done for an offence of a defender in the area to prevent the probable scoring of a goal ,b. for a intentional offence within the area by a defenderc. for defender repeatedly crossing the goal line before permitted during the penalty shot corner .To execute it, the ball is placed on the penalty spot, all players must stay out of the middle of the pitch, except who has to take the penalty stroke and the goalkeeper.

TECHNIQUEThe most important skills in indoor hockey is being able to control the stick (dribble, push and hit the ball).Holding the stick. Your right hand under the left, the first is that really controls the stick. Left hand only serves to support and complement.Dribbling the ball.

IES PABLO GARGALLO PE DEPARTAMENT

You can do it with the stick caught with one hand or with both, although with two hands is safest and most effective.

Receiving the ball or detention. There are several ways to do this, but for all of them it is important to ensure that the stick is inclined slightly in the direction that the ball is coming, thus preventing rebound.

We must practice two moves to pass successfully to teammates and to shoot at the goal:- Push: this is the basic move, it is to push the ball and your body accompanies the movement. - Flick: (wrist movement) this move involves pushing the ball to raise it off the ground.- Hit: quick movement without dragging the ball. Both hands at the top of the stick.

TACTICS

At first it is very common for players of both teams are located very close to the player dribbling the ball. However it is much easier if the players of the team in possession of the ball spread out so that the defenders will also spread out. Some players have to be in advanced areas for shot at goal when receiving the ball from their teammates: these are the forwards.

Others have to play backward positions, and although they are called defenders, they also play a very important role in the attacking game as they are the ones who initiate play.

When you attack, you should keep in mind a number of issues: We must separate from the player in possession of the ball and yourself We must find gaps. Do not stand behind an opponent.

The defense, keep in mind: The most important thing is to pressure the player with the ball so he or she cannot play comfortably. You must press the next player. Other teammates are placed close to support it.
