The field hockey team will look to capture the elusive TCCC Champi-onship for the first time in program history with every starter from last season returning. The Blue and Green turned in another excellent season going deep into the TCCC playoffs in 2009, but after falling just short the team has set their sights on championship glory.

Endicott’s youth movement in 2009 resulted in a 12-9 record overall and a 7-1 mark in confer-ence play, but a 2-1 loss in the TCCC semifinals ended the team’s hopes for a conference title. The Gulls moved on to the ECAC Tournament as the six seed and upset Framing-ham State College in the first round before ending their season with an overtime loss to eventual champi-ons University of New England in the semifinals.

With all of last season’s starters returning, another year of experi-ence under their belts, and the guidance of head coach Jodi Cipolla, the Gulls march into the 2010 season with a sense of optimism. Cipolla enters her fourth year at the helm with a 41-21 overall coaching record including a remarkable 19-5 standing in TCCC play. Cipolla welcomes new assis-tant coach Leah Boody to her staff, who shined as a forward for the UNH Wildcats field hockey team for four years.

Returning for the fall will be Endicott’s top two goal scorers in senior Joanne Reid (Clarksville, Md.) and junior Anna Giannoni (Granby, Conn.) who each tallied 10 goals in 2009. Reid also had a team-high seven assists and 27 points, while Giannoni added two assists for a total of 22 points. The two forwards combined to score

five game-winning goals last season. Both players were honored as TCCC First Team All-Conference players and National Field Hockey Coaches Association DIII All-New England East Region Second Team members.

The Gulls will be led by two seniors, as Lindsey Mills (Arling-ton, Mass.) and Delia McDermott (Shaker Heights, Ohio) lead a squad consisting of seven seniors that will provide leadership and expertise on the field. Mills, despite scoring just two goals on the season, provided stability in the midfield by starting all but one game. McDermott started in all 21 games for the Gulls last year and anchored a defense that had the third lowest goals allowed per game in the conference (1.39) and the second-most shutouts (7). Fellow seniors Allison Forgues (Auburn, Maine), Cara Hanrahan (Franklin, Tenn.), Caitlin Keating (York, Maine), and Erin McGurgan (Southington, Conn.) will all provide important depth and leadership for the Gulls.

Representing the junior class with Anna Giannoni are Alexandra Parese (Wilton, Conn.) and Court-ney Dronsfield (Penfield, N.Y.). Parese compiled 14 points with six goals, including three game-winners, and two assists in 2009. Dronsfield appeared in 11 games for the Blue and Green including two starts as she gave her team much needed depth at the midfield position.

Three players highlight a sopho-more class that will look to make further impact on the Gulls this fall. Goaltender Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) logged every minute in the cage for Endicott, earning

TCCC Second Team honors by sporting a 1.79 goals against average and a .806 save percentage in 21 starts. Cassie DeSimone (Reading, Mass.) scored three goals and had one assist in 21 starts for the Gulls last year as a midfi elder and forward Han-nah Thornberg (Oakland, Maine) scored fi ve times and dished out four assists for 14 points as one of the most productive bench players for the Gulls.

Endicott has once again packed its schedule with tough non-conference opponents to go along with a competitive TCCC schedule. The Blue and Green will face NCAA qualifi er UMass Dartmouth on September 14 in North Dartmouth and last year’s TCCC winner, Nichols College, on October 12 at home. The season opener will be on September 1 on the road at Babson College, and the home opener will be a week later on September 8 against SUNY New Paltz.

Jodi Cipolla2010 marks Jodi Cipolla’s fourth season as the head fi eld hockey coach at Endicott College.

Cipolla began her playing career at Kutztown University where she was a standout four-year var-sity letter winner and an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection. In her senior season with the Golden Bears, Cipolla was named team captain and team MVP while being voted to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association North/South All-Star team.

Following a brief stint as the assistant fi eld hockey and women’s lacrosse coach at Nichols College, she returned to her Alma Mater to serve as a graduate assistant while obtaining a Masters Degree in higher education administration. Upon returning to Kutztown, Cipolla helped lead the Golden Bears to a 14-6 record after four consecutive losing seasons. The following year, 2005, the Golden Bears broke their single season scoring record as well as boasted the nation’s top ranked defense in all of Division II. In three seasons on the sidelines for Kutztown University, Cipolla helped to compile an impressive 39-22 overall record in the always competitive PSAC.

As the head coach at Endicott College, Cipolla has accumulated a career record of 41-21 and has earned a The Commonwealth Coast Conference Coach of the Year award. Last season, the Gulls accumulated a 12-9 record with just one loss in conference play. They reached the semifi nals of the TCCC playoff s and earned a bid into the ECAC Tournament for the eighth straight year. In 2008, the Gulls had a record breaking year under Cipolla as the Blue and Green accumulated their highest single season win total (18) and scored the most goals in a season (66). Cipolla’s Gulls have played in a TCCC Final and captured the 2008 ECAC Division III New England Field Hockey title. Cipolla has served as a Head Coach and Site Director for the USFHA Futures program. In December of 2008 she attended the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy in Denver, Colorado.
