Rooted in Faith, Fruitful in Spirit

    Stewardship Moment

“…the Gentiles are co-heirs, members of the same body, and co-partners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel.” (Ephesians 3:6)

Today we celebrate that Christ came to all of us, not just the Hebrews. He has given each of us unique gifts. We all have different yet equally valuable roles to play in the Body of Christ. Pray daily and ask God how He wants you to use your gifts so that we may all “be one”.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Holy Spirit,

You may have noticed some workers around the Parish Center this last week! We had a new roof put on the Parish Center/offices. This has been needed for some time (seven buckets were needed in the upstairs hallway to catch the drips!) and the pieces finally came together. Thank you for your patience while this has been accomplished since it closed the

passage way between the school and Parish Center.

Our building project continues to move forward. Having completed the feasibility study and listened to the feedback, we made some adjustments to the project that I believe will serve the Parish and school on many levels. Those changes are being finalized and we will relay the whole project to you as soon as possible.

The Archdiocese at the beginning of December gave us official approval to move ahead with the campaign and the project. We are working with our campaign consultant, Walsh and Associates, to develop the structure for the campaign which will gear up the first of March. There are many roles to fulfill in running a campaign of this size and I’m going to ask for your assistance along the way. I will need your help. Please join me in this very hope filled and exciting time for Holy Spirit Parish.

    God’s Love and Blessings,

Green Corner New Year’s resolution time!

Why not do something for yourself and our environment? Plan to use only reusable bags at the grocery store this year. Try to eat healthier meals. Turn off the lights when you leave the room. Turn down the thermostat in the winter and turn it up in the summer. Good and precious God, You provided manna in the dessert for your chosen people. May we recognize that our food comes from Your bounty, the generosity of our planet and the strenuous work of many human hands. Teach us to reverence your creation which supplies our food. Show us how to make room at the table for everyone. Amen.

Did you know that a raffle is gambling? So is Bingo, pull tabs and any game of chance. Holy Spirit Church is subject to the Indiana Charity

Gaming Laws and can be fined or have their license revoked if violations are found. Any Parish or school club must get permission and information from the Parish Office to hold any sort of raffle or gambling at an event. All money collected from gambling must be deposited into the Holy Spirit gaming account and reports must be filed with the Indiana Charity Gaming Office, specifying all the income and expenses related to the gambling. All people who work the gambling events must be on our license and we need to collect driver's license number, birthdate, address, phone number and year that you joined the Parish. Please help us protect our church by complying with these laws! If you have any questions, please contact the Parish Office or email Suzy McLaughlin at [email protected]. Thanks!

    End of Year Letters

We will be sending out statements to all parishioners who made individual cash gifts of $250 or more. We will have these letters postmarked by January 31. This is per the IRS requirement. If you have not made a gift of $250 or more, you can request a statement at the Parish Office.

SUBSTANCE ADDICTION MINISTRY First, we must admit the need, then we must take the step. If we do, what we find unconquerable in our lives is conquered with Jesus. Every other week we will be sharing one of the 12 steps with a prayer. All 12 Step Programs have the same steps - Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Al-Anon, etc. So substitute the substance in use for alcohol as appropriate. Note: Obsession with a loved one's addiction can become an addiction; thus Al-Anon and other family support groups.

Step One: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable. Heavenly Father, I admit that I am powerless over my addiction. My life [or my loved one's life] has become unmanageable. Please help me draw on Your strength and turn away from my inclination to keep trying to beat it. I'm powerless. Help me admit defeat here, without feeling like a defeated person. I pray for the clarity of mind to stop feeling sorry for myself because I can no longer have my crutch, and, with You as my guide, focus on the serenity of realizing I don't need it anymore. I throw in the towel. I quit. Please help me stop fighting and start healing. Amen.

Cookie Collection NEXT Weekend: January 13, 2019.

The outpouring of generosity of providing blankets for the homeless was overwhelming! There were multiple carloads of blankes being distributed to the homeless people.

Thank you!

Medical Needs for January Honduras Mission Trip

Thanks to everyone for your generous donations of medicine, glasses, eye drops and dental supplies for our Mission to Honduras in January. The items we really need most, right now, for our upcoming trip to Texiguat are:

    • Children’s Multivitamins

    • Children’s Tooth rushes

We can use toothpaste and toothbrushes as we will be doing some dental education on this trip when we visit the small, poor villages or aldeas.

Thank you for your ongoing support for the Water with Blessings water filter program. We will be bringing 60 more water filters that will provide pure drinking water for 240 households. What a blessing!

Band Instruments for San Francisco de Asis

Padre Jose has informed us that the church band at San Francisco de Asis is in need of a trumpet or a clarinet. They also could use some small percussion instruments, like a tambourine, a guiro or a maraca. If you have a used or new instrument like these that you can donate, please call John Evans at 317-201-4086.
