From the Pastor’s OfficeThe Epiphany of the Lord
The dictionary defines Epiphany as “an illuminating discovery, a realization
or a disclosure. The coming of the Lord Jesus is an Epiphany to us. We
have been given an illuminating discovery. The ancient prophesy of the
Jews has crossed over to enter into our world. We are very familiar with
this revelation. Christmas and all its trappings become very familiar to us.
We celebrate it by rote. That is where we put the tree, the lights go up the
bannister, Mom and Dad, you sit there, Grandma and Grandpa you sit
over there. Auntie Beryl always makes the stuffing. Rosemary always
bakes the pie. Tradition and custom are lovely but they set up their own
problems. Whilst the Epiphany is meant to be this great revelation, we
have heard it all before. That means we stop listening. It is not a surprise
to us anymore. In the world of computing often we have to hit the reset
button to freshen up the keys. Maybe it is time we hit the reset button on
our faith as well. By it’s nature, Epiphany is meant to be illuminating. The
great mystery of God has unfolded. The Messiah has come into the world. At
this point we are supposed to gasp and cheer. This is good news. Instead,
we spend our days putting the decorations back in the attic. Christmas is
over for another year. Actually for many it ended on Dec. 26th just when it
was beginning for everyone else. The great revelation is given for the
whole world. The Lord God walks upon the earth. He takes on human
form. He lives in our skin. His message is a message for the whole world
to hear. Human nature is not good at sharing. From our childhood we all
learned to scream out, “this is mine!” The message of God is a universal
message understood in all the languages of the world. The Lord is with
us. The Lord is with his people. In the great expanse we are not alone. We
do not journey through the abyss alone. God is our good shepherd. He
loves His flock. He leads us on. That is all of it.
With love,
Fr. Pat
I would like to express gratitude on behalf of myself, Fr.
Ray and Fr. Lou for all your gifts and best wishes at
Christmas. It was much appreciated. With love, Fr. Pat
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE McCABES
For years, St. Austin Catholic School has been educating the children of
many St. Catherine of Siena Catholic parishioners. This year it is our joy
to announce that Mr. and Mrs. Matthew and Kathleen McCabe are St.
Austin’s Celebrating Catholic Schools Award Nominees. Parents to Rory
in 2nd Grade, Tess in Kindergarten and Baby Graham, the McCabes
began their journey at St. Austin as they sought a school for Rory to enter
the school's PreK-4 class. Lifelong Catholics, both Matt and Kate are
also participatory in the life of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish.

to meet the need of a growing group due to the economic effects of the virus and will need your continued financial support to
meet this challenge.
Stewards live each day as if Jesus were walking beside us, pointing out acts of compassion for us to perform. In this way, we act in Jesus’ name and manifest what we profess in our creed.

Preschool Ministries
PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL
YEAR. We are currently enrolling St. Catherine Preschool families. We
teach a play-based emergent curriculum. This allows us to plan based
on the children’s interest and passion at a certain point in time. Teachers
will take into account the class skills, needs, and interests. Children
thrive and learn best when their interests are captured. Our play-based preschool is
for children ages 2-5 years old. Hours are 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a two or three
day option Tuesday through Thursday. For more information, please contact Camille
Parker at [email protected].
ST. CATHERINE’S PRESCHOOL IS PROVIDING AT HOME PRESCHOOL LESSONS
FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AGES 2-5. This will continue through May. The
weekly themes have fun and interactive child-centered activities. All plans include
prayers, songs, stories, activities, bible lessons, crafts, finger plays, songs, and
recipes. The At Home Preschool lesson plans are $30/week or $75/month. Visit

Liturgy
TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD.
In Greek the name “Epiphany” means manifestation
or showing forth. It is the day we celebrate the arrival
of three wise men who came from the East to find
the baby Jesus. This feast commemorates Jesus’ manifestation
to the Gentiles. With this event, the news of Jesus’ birth was
given to the whole world.
EPIPHANY PACKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE CHURCH DOORS.
You are invited to take a packet home and bless your home
for this coming year. This is an old German custom of marking
the top of the front doorway to your home as a way to bless
all who live in the house during this New Year. Mark the door
frame with the initials of the Three Kings and the year, praying
a blessing prayer and burning incense. Everything you need is
provided for you in the packet!
WE CONTNUE TO SANITIZE THE PEWS AFTER ALL MASSES. The
number of volunteers assisting with this effort changes from
day to day, and on some weekdays there are few or no volunteers.
If you would like to help us maintain this safeguard, please remain
in the Narthex after Mass. Thank you!
2021 RELIGIOUS CALENDARS are available for
purchase in the Church Office. Cost is $3 and
quantities are limited.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU to all our priests, deacons,
musicians, lectors, ushers, Mass coordinators, and
Ministers of Communion who give of their time to
serve the community throughout the year and
through this very holy season. A very special thank
you to all the members of the Arts & Environment Committee
for returning again and again this season, enabling us to celebrate
in a beautifully decorated church. Blessings and gratitude to all!
THE 2021 ALTAR FLOWER SIGN UP LIST IS NOW
AVAILABLE ONLINE. You may donate flowers in
memory of a loved one or special occasion for a
specific weekend. We ask for a donation of $85 for
the altar flowers, $60 for the ambo flowers or $140
for both. Visit www.stcatherine-austin.org/altar-flower-sign-ups to
request available weekends. The donation may be paid online,

WWW.STCATHERINE-AUSTIN.ORG JANUARY 3, 2021
Fr. Ray is requesting our help to support the Carmelite Sisters in Kurnool, India. This past year,
the heavy rains in India caused the 50 year old Cloistered Carmelite Sisters Convent building to
leak causing much damage to the building and great unrest to the poor sisters. These sisters spend
their entire time in prayer and remain within the four walls of their convent by totally depending on
charities for their survival. If you can support to provide the necessary financial help, the sisters
need to fix their Convent roof.
God always loves the cheerful giver. Please extend your helping
hand to these sisters to provide financial support to assist them to
repair their roof. Send your donations to our parish office, payable
to Fr. Ray Pothireddy for the Cloistered Carmelite Sisters. You can
also make online donations on our parish website for this genuine
cause.
With a grateful heart, Fr. Ray Pothireddy
