New additions will be constructed to link the structures as well as house centralized mechanical and electrical rooms, exit stairs, washrooms and an elevator. These new links will be designed to match existing period structures. In the existing buildings, all mechanical and electrical will be new.

The facilities were previously used, over the years, for a multitude of programs, including music, fine arts, geology, geography, and history. One building in particular was the old University Chapel, and will now become part of a larger Reception Hall space. De plus, une attention particulire a t apporte dans le choix des plantations afin de maximiser leurs rsistances au climat local et du mme coup liminer la ncessit dun systme dirrigation. La gestion des eaux pluviales est un lment qui a aussi t pris en compte dans la conception du site afin de limiter les quantits et damliorer la qualit des rejets dans le systme dgout public. Lclairage des stationnements lui a t conu afin de minimiser la pollution lumineuse tout en assurant la scurit des usagers.

Pour Sobeys il est primordial de simpliquer dans la qualit du btiment pour quil contribue non seulement lamlioration environnemental du milieu, mais quil constitue un environnement cologique pour les occupants. Que ce soit par lutilisation dune toiture propice la rduction des lots de chaleur, par la rcupration de chaleur manant des comptoirs rfrigrs, par lutilisation de systme de rfrigration au CO2 , Sobeys est toujours chef de file par ses ides novatrices en vue doptimiser les performances du btiment. Il est tout aussi important pour Sobeys de sassurer du contrle de la qualit des matriaux et composantes du btiment, afin de relever les standards de qualit de lenvironnement bti. J. Walter Company Ltd. was founded in 1952 in Montreal. The company settled in its current head office in Pointe-Claire, in 1966. The building has undergone several transformations that have followed the expansion of the company. The current project will double the current surface area of the head office in order to modernize the installations and integrate the BIO-CIRCLE division. The company's sustainable development philosophy has led to the conception of an ecological building which will be used as a global showcase. The central part of the building marks the focal point of the project. To its sides, will be the Walter and BIO-CIRCLE installations. The grand entrance hall will include skylights to maximize the incoming natural light in both the newly expanded portion as well as in the existing portion of the building.
