SAP Note

Header Data

Symptom

You want to remove nodes from your scale-out database. You may wish to convert your scale-out SAP HANA configuration to a single host SAPHANA configuration. To do this, you must make changes to the table _SYS_RT.TABLE_PLACEMENT.

Other Terms

Scale out, HANA, HANA database, single host

Reason and Prerequisites

The table _SYS_RT.TABLE_PLACEMENT defines the criteria by which tables are to be split or distributed across nodes. If you want to removenodes from SAP HANA, you must also change the configuration in this table. You should also use the landscape redistribution tool in SAP HANAto adjust the tables in line with the new partitioning rules.

Solution

Before unconfiguring a node from the SAP HANA database, you should adapt the table _SYS_RT.TABLE_PLACEMENT for the futureconfiguration according to SAP Note 1908075.

You can then use the SAP HANA Studio, Administration overview, tab "Landscape", "Hosts" to unconfigure the database node with the contextmenu option "remove host". SAP HANA implicitly shifts the tables located on this node to other nodes. However, the system does not automaticallychange the number of parts of split tables in accordance with the new rules now defined in _SYS_RT.TABLE_PLACEMENT.

For this reason, you should use the landscape redistribution tool once the node is removed to redistribute the tables in accordance with the "new"rules in _SYS_RT.TABLE_PLACEMENT. To do this, ensure that the options "enable_merge" = true and "force_partnum_to_splitrule" = true  are set

in the indexserver.ini section [table_redist] before executing the plan generation.
