1.0 PURPOSE

This specification defines the minimum requirements for the design, material selection,

manufacturing, inspection, testing, delivery, installation and painting and performance testing

of Axial / Propeller Flow Fans.

2.0 SCOPE

2.1 The Seller’s scope of supply shall include and not be limited to all the items/facilities required

for Axial flow fans designed to meet the requirements specified in the data sheets and this

specification.

2.2 The scope of supply and services shall include design, engineering, manufacture with

materials, assembly, testing, supply, delivery, packing, transportation to site, inspection,

testing, erection and commissioning, performance guarantee and handing over of the

complete Axial flow fans including all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation works and

piping excluding civil design, complete in all respects.

3.0 COST COMPETITIVE ENGINEERING AND DESIGN

The equipment / system selection should be done based on life cycle cost. This should be

done without compromising any specification and design requirements.

4.0 REFERENCE CODE / STANDARD

The latest edition of the following codes and standards shall be complied:

 ASHRAE 52-76 Methods of testing air cleaning devices used in general

ventilation for removing particulate matter 

IS 3103 – 1975 Code of practice for Industrial Ventilation.

(Reaffirmed 1999)

BS-848 Methods of performance test for fans

 ARI 410 Forced circulation air cooling and air heating coils

IS 659 Safety Code for air conditioning

BS-2831 Methods of test for air filters used in air conditioning and general

ventilation.

IS-3588 Specification for electrical axial flow fans.

5.0 TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Seller: It means the material & services seller Buyer: It means the engineering consultant or the owner 

 Axial flow fans: these Axial flow fans are designed to run continually / partially as required for 

ventilation systems. Axial flow fans systems are designed for Ventilation of Electrical Room or 

some other areas.

7.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

7.1 General

Propeller Fan

The Propeller Fan blades shall be pressed steel of aerofoil design for high fan efficiency and

static pressure. The blades shall be riveted to a central steel hub. The motor and blades

assembly shall be mounted in a cast iron / sheet steel frame with steel brackets. Rubber 

mounts shall be provided between the mounting frames and brackets. The fan motor shall be

totally enclosed type.

Axial Fan:-

The Axial flow fans exhaust air blower shall be Tube Axial Flow fans connected to the duct &

shall be of floor / ceiling / wall mounted type as specified in the data sheet.

The system shall contain following components:

• Casing

• Impeller • Drive Motor 

• Noise and Vibration

7.2 Casing

The cylindrical casing should be made from welded carbon steel sheet. The inlet & outlet of the casing shall be fitted with flanges for ductwork connection & other accessories asrequired. The surface f inish shall be epoxy coated.

7.3 Impeller  

The impeller shall have blades of an airfoil design. Blades shall be mounted on streamlined

hub. The impeller shall be statically and dynamically balanced. Adjustable pitch blades shall

be provided if specified in data sheet.

The blade of axial flow fan shall be made of die cast aluminium alloy. The blade angle shall

be set at manufacturing place & shall also have facility to modify latter.

The impeller assembly shall be fixed on the shaft by means of a double cone type expansionbush. The design shall facilitate the alteration of blade angle without disconnecting the hub

from the motor shaft.

7.4 Drive Motor  

The fan shall be directly driven by TEFC sq. cage induction motor. The fan motors shall be

energy efficient (EFF-1) 415±10% volts 50HZ ± 5%, 3 phase TEFC SQ.Cage induction

motor. The motor shall be specially designed for quiet operation & motor RPM shall be as

given in data sheet.

Drive motor shall be rated at least 15 % higher than the power requirement at duty point or 

10 % higher than the maximum power requirement at selected speed, whichever is higher.

Starting torque requirements of fan shall also be considered while selecting the motor.

7.5 Nose & Vibration

The compressor shall be of high efficiency Scroll design, equivalent with an EER of not less

Noise level produced by any rotating equipment individually or collectively shall not exceed

85 dB(A) measured at a distance of 1.5 metres from the source in any direction. The overall

vibration level shall be as per zones A and B of ISO 10816-1. Balance quality requirement

shall be G 6.3 conforming to ISO 1940/1.

7.6 BMS Controls

The Axial fans panel shall have provisions to be integrated with the BMS system so that

remote operations can be performed on fans. Axial fans shall be controlled and monitoredthrough BMS. The unit shall be capable of communicating through MODBUS RTU to an RS-

485 communications port to link all the units for monitoring and control purposes. Necessary

hardware and software for the same shall be included in the unit by supplier.

7.7 Switch Board

Switchboard shall be situated in a compartment separated from the air flow and made in

compliance with the directive 73/23/EEC and related standards. The features like low-

voltage secondary circuit with isolation transformer, plastic insulating screen for protection

from live components, general isolator with mechanical interlock, thermo magnetic circuit-

breakers for protection, terminal board for no-voltage signal and control contacts shall be

provided. All the units must undergo a safety test cycle to check the continuity of theprotection circuit and the insulation resistance, and a voltage (dielectric strength) test.

7.8 Electricity

 A terminal box on starter panel suitable for connecting external 3 phase, 4 wire cable shall be

provided.

• The unit shall be provided with single phase preventers for all motors.

• Starter panel shall be provided separately for each unit.

• The starter panels shall be complete with starters for all motors.

7.9 Service Area

The unit shall be serviceable with a service space front of the unit. Rear access shall be

required for servicing. Vendor to furnish the service space along with offer.

7.10 Control System (Microprocessor)

The microprocessor controller shall be capable to manage the unit operations autonomously.

Units shall be designed and developed to interact with all the most widely used Building

Management Systems, exchanging data via the most common communication protocols

through serial connections. Vendor shall give details of the settings for the same.

The user terminal shall be with a backlit LCD display and keys to move between and change

parameters. It can be situated on board the machine or, on request, with a kit for wall

mounting for the remote control of the unit. By means of the user terminal, user can set the

air-conditioner's operating parameters, monitor the trend of the main working parameters and

read any alarm messages.

7.10.1 Following minimum information shall be available on the display on the units:

• Modes of operation

• Status of the control devices.

7.10.2 Alarm

• Visual system alarm indication (along with mutable audio alarm as well).

•  Alarm display menu for all the alarms (incorporating various system alarms like

temperature high / low, humidity high / low, clogged filters, etc).

• The unit should show the settings & operating parameters of the other units

• Programmable services interval indication display / alarm.

• Displays the units are switched off by supervision system, through timer, by inversion

cycle, switched off by fire/smoke, switched off by flooding.

7.10.3 Safety Protections

The unit shall also incorporate the following protections:

• Single phasing preventers.

• Reverse phasing

• Overload tripping (MPCB) of all components

7.10.4 Safety Interlock

Operation of heaters & humidifiers (if provided) shall be possible only when blower fan is in

operation.

7.10.5 Microprocessor Controls

Following information shall be available on the display on the units:

•  Axial run status

•  Air temperature

7.10.6 The Microprocessor shall be able to perform following functions:

• Testing of the working of display system.

• Password for unit calibration values modification

•  Automatic reset of program

• Cooling capacity control

• Date & time of last intervened alarm

• Wrong password alarm

• Start / Stop status storage

• DSA start / stop command

• DSA Inv Speed display / filter diff pressure status

7.10.7 Sequencing

The unit’s microprocessor should have sequencing as an inbuilt feature. The units shall be

designed to work for equal number of run hours also incase of fault the stand by unit should

start with out any human intervention. The units should have programmer which enables the

user to feed his operating hours, non operating hours in advance up to one year during any

time. Motorised air damper shall be provided by vendor as a part of unit and its operation

shall be interlocked with DSA- fan operation. Motorised air damper shall have no leakages.

7.10.8 The microprocessor control system shall be supplied with the cards/ hard wares for following

purposes:

• RS485 serial adapter/ any other compatible and approved by client - for data transfer 

to a central supervisor system with MODBUS RTU protocol;

• Water leak detector comprising a control module installed on the electric switchboard

and an external sensor.

 Axial fan Vendor shall do Daisy chaining between all fans units. Fan vendor to do sequencing

of multiple units by providing master controller. Control such as Auto restart after power 

resumption shall be inbuilt within the each unit. Unit shall be capable of tripping and

simultaneously closing motorized damper upon providing digital input signal fire zone wise.

Unit base frame/ stand, flexible fire proof connection, guard for moving parts shall be

provided.

7.11 Deviation by Vendor  

Vendor shall strictly adhere to the scope of supply. However deviations if any shall be

specifically and separately listed in the offer. In absence of this deviation list shall be

presumed that the vendor’s offer is in full conformity with Buyer’s requirement and there is no

deviation.

7.12 General

7.12.1 Vendor shall guarantee the Fans smooth optimum operation for 3 years after handover. Any

failure in guarantee period shall be attended by Vendor within 24 hours. Vendor shall provide

matrix of resolution time for various breakdowns along with offer.

7.12.2 Spares, consumables, any other material/ labor and any special tools and tackles required for 

rectification of Fans for satisfactory operation during guarantee period shall be in vendor's

scope.

7.12.3 Vendor shall provide list of spares along with price to be maintained by client after the

guarantee period is over.

7.12.4 This specification is a general guideline. However, vendor shall have the full responsibility to

provide suitable instrument for measurement and control of the parameters for an optimum

continuous operation. Any abnormal condition in the unit shall be indicated by an audible and

visible means and the unit shall be brought to safety position automatically. Any kind of work/

supply/service necessary for completing optimum performance and functional requirement of 

FAN shall be provided by vendor as per client’s requirement. Vendor shall provide all

measuring and controlling instruments and panel at local location as required for proper start-

up, normal operation and planned / emergency shut down of his package. Vendor shall

provide all instruments / controls for all the parameters and I/Os mentioned in this

specification.

8.0 TEST / INSPECTION

8.1 Inspection and testing shall be as per vendor’s standard QAP as commented and approved

Client.

8.1 Factory Performance Test

Unit manufacturer shall provide a client- witnessed single point performance test per the

latest version of applicable code.

Performance test at site will consist of an uninterrupted running of the system for min 72

hours at design conditions. Any refrigerant loss or loss in compressor oil / any consumable

shall be made good by supplier at his own cost All measuring instrument and anyrequirements shall be arranged by Vendor.

9.0 DOCUMENTATION

9.1 Following documents shall be submitted along with the bid:

• Filled in data sheets as per format given with Material Requisition

• General arrangements drawing showing approximate area.

• Electrical wiring diagram.

•  Any non-compliance with material requisition and attached specifications

• Quality assurance / ISO related documents

• Fan performance curves showing duty point.• HSE policy documents

G.A. drawing, Performance curves, QAP, Completed datasheets, Foundation requirement

drawing, List of special tools, Catalogues, Electrical connection / wiring diagrams, Control

logic and logic diagrams, Installation , operation and maintenance manual, Individual

characteristic curve of all components, any information and format as and when demanded.
