Parking & Drive Considerations

Get guests to the front door, groceries to the side door, cars into parking slots or into a garage…functionality. Park Neatly!

Parking slots are typically 9x18

Turning radius is 17’

Plan for larger SUVs & UPS trucks!

016-3 Construction: The Hub Hardscape

Page 52: 016 7-construction-hardscape-review
Page 53: 016 7-construction-hardscape-review

Parking Interface with HubDriveway consisting of concrete, asphalt or gravel is best harmonized with the hub materials. Stone edging or banding on drive likewise in harmony/color way.

Exiting a garage takes 35’ minimum for a normal car without complicated 3 point turns…a car takes 20’ to simply get out of a garage, the turn to back up is a 17’ Radius

A typical parking space is 9’ wide and 18’ long.

Remember that SUVs are much larger than a regular automobile and have a larger turning radius.

Page 54: 016 7-construction-hardscape-review

Parking Interface with Hub

Considerations in design of garage areas:

Back-up space of min 35’

Turning radius of min 17’

Size of vehicles (measure them!)

Articulation of parking court

Trash receptacles location

Page 55: 016 7-construction-hardscape-review

Parking Interface with Hub

Considerations in design of garage areas continued:

Areas for planting, in front, behind cars

Medallions in paving & banding

Drainage & edging
