BC Ferries restructuring will increase costs and reduce accountabilityby Sylvia Fuller BC Office | Commentary and Fact Sheets Issue(s): Public services and privatization Projects & Initiatives: Public Interest Research Project (BC) December 1, 2002 The provincial government has just announced a major transformation of ferry services, promising better service, better access to capital for needed improvements, all without any new public debt and an end to political "meddling". BC Ferries, the long-standing Crown Corp., is to be replaced by a private company--BC Ferry Services.http://www.policyalternatives.ca/publications/commentary/bc-ferries-restructuring-will-increase-costs-and-reduce-accountability

B.C. needs reliable cost saving transportation systems. A reliable high speed rail train and a highway tunnel will provide BC with this. With our ferry system providing superior service and opportunity to British Columbians. Together we will work to provide these services with no financial risk or additional debt burden for taxpayers.

NEWS RELEASE February 13, 2012 For Immediate Distribution 2012/2013 Budget Building Process The Board of Education in Cowichan has launched a budget building process for 2012/2013 which intends to meet the goals in our Strategic Plan after seeking the views of our families and employees as well as community members. Our Board believes budgets should be a matter of profound public participation and must be created to reflect the expectations all of us have for quality learning and working conditions. To this end, we have directed our Budget Committee to gather the information our board will need to make rational choices as we work. This will rest heavily on surveying the many realms in our district to ask questions which will allow us to come to grips with the following: Current levels of service in the district Impacts of previous cuts to services and programs Additional resources which will supply quality learning and working conditions in our district
