Learning from Loss Bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2) An inevitable part of having friends and family, whom you love and cherish, is to someday have to say goodbye to them. The separation may be caused by death, by a move, or by fractured relationships. There is also a loss of ability that can come from illness, growing older, loss of a job, or loss of support. Even worse than the experience of these is to feel that you must bear the loss in isolation. There is a reason we are instructed to bear one another’s burdens. Chaparral has also undergone some recent changes. Many of these changes are bringing exciting new opportunities. But with change there has also been loss. While it is impossible to prevent loss from ever occurring, it is possible to learn from loss and to grow stronger in love and commitment. Chaparral members are encouraged to both give and receive support at all available opportunities. Dan & Aimee Short, with the assistance of Murray & Pat McClung, will start a new “Learning from Loss” group. They have been trained in grief support and also have experience conducting discipleship groups within the Church following crisis and unexpected loss. While remaining mindful of the power of prayer and scripture, this group is not designed as a Bible class. The focus of the discipleship group will be on sharing personal experiences, supportive listening, discussing future adjustments, and sharing ideas for healing and growth in confidence. The plan is to have a diverse group that cuts across age groups and includes some staff and other Church leaders. The group will meet weekly for six weeks. This opportunity is open to anyone interested in dealing with their own grief issues as well as those who are interested in providing comfort to those facing loss. We ask that you commit to attending all six Tuesday meetings. The group is scheduled to meet on Tuesday evenings, April 7 through May 12, from 7:00-8:30 p.m., at the Short’s home. If you are interested, please email Sara Perrine at [email protected] or call the Church office. Friday, April 3rd, from 9 - 11 a.m., 30 people from Chaparral will be going to make food packs for Feed My Starving Children. If you would like to participate, call Nic Glyshaw in the Church office. (Children 5 years and up may attend with parents.) If you are unable to attend but would like to help, we are hoping to collect $1,500 to help pay for the food we will pack. You may write a check to Chaparral Christian Church and put” Feed My Starving Children” on the memo line. Communion/Lord’s Supper All followers of Christ are welcome to participate in our Service of Communion. If you have prepared yourself for this very special moment with our Savior, you are invited to His table. (1 Corinthians 11:23-30) Please take the emblems as they are passed and partake when you are ready. Some prefer to take it before passing it along. • Learning from Loss Bear one anothers burdens (Galatians 6:2)

An inevitable part of having friends and family, whom you love and cherish, is to someday have to say goodbye to them. The separation may be caused by death, by a move, or by fractured relationships. There is also a loss of ability that can come from illness, growing older, loss of a job, or loss of support. Even worse than the experience of these is to feel that you must bear the loss in isolation. There is a reason we are instructed to bear one anothers burdens.

Dan & Aimee Short, with the assistance of Murray & Pat McClung, will start a new Learning from Loss group. They have been trained in grief support and also have experience conducting discipleship groups within the Church following crisis and unexpected loss.
