of the church. This Sundaywe will becelebratingthis wonderful

occasion with one dynamic, unifiedservice at 10:45 a.m. Well have alively processional, inspirational musicand, of course, be wearing the colorsof Pentecost that represent the colorof the flames of the Spirit red, orange and purple! So be sure

and wear your colors to show yourSpirit, the Spirit that really matters inyour life.

    Pentecost is usually marked by

three different themes. First thereis the representation of fire, as weremember that the tongues of the

Spirit came and descended uponeveryone present, as tongues of fire.Next is the wind, as the breeze ofthe Spirit blew through the throng ofpeople. And finally, there is the gift oflanguage, as each person understoodthe message in their own nativetongue. Well be recognizing all threeaspects in our service, fire, wind andlanguage.

Pentecost is a special day forus and for our church. May the

Spirit move among us, calling us toa wonderful celebration of Godslove and transforming power at FirstChristian Church.

Each month, the HOPE Center feeds

about 550 families who are unable to

provide food and other needed itemsfor themselves and their children some of these families may attend our church.

The last few years have brought high unemployment, high gas prices and

high food cost to their clients. The cost to the HOPE Center to provide food has

increased more than 20%. Demand is tremendous!

Our Outreach Ministry team invites you to help us extend the GIFT OF HOPE

with those in need by bringing some much needed items for the HOPE Center!

Through Sunday, June 3, we will be collecting the following items:

peanut butter, jelly, cereal, boxed dinners, canned fruit, canned meat,

    and hygiene items.

Everyone is invited to share a gift of hope during this time. Fill a grocery sack

and bring it to the HOPE Chest display in the rotunda.

The Gift of Giving HelpBy Marcia Tunison, ReNewing Hands Ministry Moderator

    God continues to amaze me

as I think about the ministry of

    ReNewing Hands Mission! I

    distinctly remember the Sunday

    ReNew table conversation where

    Chris Gibson suggested that we

    provide handyman help to our

    seniors and others. This need

had been on my heart for quite a while, based on frustrating

experiences some of my widowed friends had gone through.

I was asked to speak about this idea the next Sunday, and by

the end of that meeting, Madelynn Bartley and Anita Wilsonhad also volunteered to help. I remember thinking what a gift

that was not only from Chris, Madelynn and Anita, but from

God! That night reality set in. This was a gift, and God was

calling. I couldnt say no! There was much work to be done,

and we would definitely need Gods help to accomplish it.

With Gods guidance, the start-up committee has now

completed its work and the ministry is up and functioning just

as we had hoped. I couldnt begin to guess how many prayers

were said or hours spent by all those who worked in support

of this effort. It just boggles my mind! But God knows, and

    Im certain He is pleased.

If you are just now learning about ReNewing Hands,

heres what it is all about. Our mission is to provide home-

related assistance, without charge for labor, to members of

the church or regular attendees who are infirm, seniors or

widowed, handicapped, or families of deployed military. Ou

services cover a wide range, including nursing, handyman

help, sprinkler repair, driving assistance to medical

appointments, pet care, lawn care, grocery shopping, running

errands and computer help. An application for services can

be requested from Iris Jordan (341-3544).RHM has already provided assistance to a number of

people, and we have received excellent feedback. If you or

someone you know could use a hand, please give Iris a call.

The volunteers are all members of our church, and each has

    gone through a background check.

Our volunteers are wanting to give their gifts, and if you

are in need of assistance, it is my hope that you will be open

    to receiving them.

    To my FCC Family:

It has truly been my great joy for fiveyears to serve FCC as one of yourchurch musicians ... in many ways, the

most fulfilling of my 40-year churchmusic career. Every service I have been

thankful for the beautiful keyboard instruments on which to play and create. Offeringmusic to enhance your worship experience has been my ministry, and hopefully it has

been a successful one.I leave you to join my fiancee, Larry, in Osage Beach, MO, where we will live

retired and enjoy the adventures of lake life!

I will miss FCCs wonderful choir, musicians, singers, ministers and congregation.I will miss you ALL! What extra special people you are!!
