The matter truly neededextensivestudy.Somethingsweresurethough…..kudostoDir.Coraforaninnovativeprojectanddefinitelydiscussionswereopen,funny,coloredandwith the business side, of course!

FinallyFriday,17August2012,wasanon-rainyday.WetookthechancetotraveltoTaloySurElementarySchooltoturnoverthebooksdonatedtothe Club by the Rotary Club of Dagupan The faculty and the children were invited to the Library where they had the opportunity to browse through theinteresting,colorfulandinformativebooks.Ofcourse,Dir./PPBertTalcoand Rtn Joey Bugayong generously shared their library treasures for the children.Dir./PPBert,thanksforthesetofchildren’sencyclopediaandRtn.Joeyfortheworkbooksusefulforvarioussubjects.Mayyourtribeincrease!

RCC Taloy officers were likewise, inducted. Livelihood projects werediscussed and members were invited to join the RCC Livelihood Seminar wearehostingon22September2012attheBenguetStateUniversity,LaTrinidad, Benguet

GormitoKaur,knownas“Baby” tomanywasbornon 11 November 1963 at the City of Baguio, Philippines She isblessedwithachildAkshayBhopal,who inthemomentistakingupMechatronics.

Like most of us, she is interested with music andmovies.Herinterestisswimming,travelling,outingandcooking.She’sgoodwithIndianfoodcuisineandskillfullwithEventCoordinationandOrganization.

She finished her Elementary years on 1976 at St.Louis School Center, Baguio City; her High School on 1980atSt.LouisGirls’HighSchool.ShetookupBachelorof Science in Commerce at Saint Louis University and graduated on 1994

She is the Proprietress of Baby Souvenir Store located at 1064-65 Dahlia Alley, Marbay Building, Baguio City

She is a member of the Saint Louis University Alumni Association,SaintLouisGirls’HighAlumniAssociationand the Treasurer of the Saint Louis Girls’ High School Batch ‘80

At present, she is the Club Secretary of the Rotary Club of Baguio RY 2012-13

Aweekbeforethescheduledtreeplanting,wewereanticipatingthepossiblepostponementoftheactivitydue to the daily strong rains On second thought, however,wefinallyagreedadaybeforethescheduleddate that it will push through, come rain or shine The clouds were low and the atmosphere foggy on this day but it did not deter the spirit and persistence of our treeplantingcommittee.

ThetreeplantingwasparticipatedinbyRotaractorsand Interactors of Brgy Lucnab The Rotarians were represented by Pres Libby Fernandez, Dir /PP Bert Talco, PPVeehBalajowhobroughtalongherRotakidMaebel,Rtn Lani Fabi and myself Rtn Baby was instructed to followlaterasshehadtobringthesnacksforthegroup.Therewere5RotaractorsledbyitsPres.XenaSokkongand 14 Interactors led by its Pres Jonard Felipe all from Barangay Lucnab

Our assembly point was at the St Joseph Church in Pacdal As usual, Pres Libby and Dir /PP Bert promptly arrived before the 8:00 amassemblytime. Iarrivedabit latebutproceeded toBusol topack the seedlingsreadyforpickupbytheparticipantswhilePres.LibbyandDir./PPBertwerewaitingforthearrivaloftheotherparticipants. When everyone arrived, the Rotaractorsand Interactors joined Rtn Lani in the jeep hired to bringthemtothesite.PPVeeh,RotakidMaebel,Pres.

Household items sponsored by Rtn. Lani Fabi were raffled off by Rtn. Herb Meadows with the help of a beautiful

young girl.

After a glimpse of sunshine during our 11 Augustmeeting, a song came tomymind aswewere aboutto start ourmeeting on 18th of August, 2012. “Herecomestherainagain,fallingonmyheadlikeamemory,fallingonmyheadlikeanewemotion”.Indeedtherainbecame intermittent but itwas not strong enough todampenthejovialmoodandspiritoftheattendees.

PP Lito Pangilinan who pitched in as Program Coordinator in lieu of PP Benny Sunga, called the meeting to start on the dot. Pres. Libby Fernandezcalledthemeetingtoorderat12:30.AcompassionateandcontritefulinvocationwasledbyRtn.GaryLoAng,and as always a lively singing by Rotarians and guests ofourNationalAnthemandtheRotaryHymnfollowed.

Entertainment was provided by our very own, Charice Pempengco, the beautiful Dir. Cora Ocampo,whosang“ItMightBeYou”.Rtn.JoeUrsuaintroducedourvisitingRotariansandguestsfromtheRotaryClubof Baguio Sunrise led by Pres Ten Aguilar and District OfficerJunRoxas.Atotalof34RCBmembers,8Guestand 2 Rotakids graced the meeting. Rtn. Joe alsogave us a good laugh.Hemade amistake by readingthe guests during our last meeting and we were alllooking forRotakidKyllaRodriguez. DuringtheFinestMoments,PPChrisPeraltahasfinedall theRotarianswhose picture appeared in the latest Canao issue and PE Uwe collected the fines. In the end, almost allwere fined even those who were not in the Canao.Thanks again for the contributions. Our Raffle kingRtn Herb Meadows with the help of Rtn Lani Fabi and aRotakid announced that all numberswere sold. PPMike Pearson won themajor price after complainingwhy is he not winning – it pays to complain was his joke. AtMember’s Time Rtn. Jun Cardona remindedour picnic, tree planting, at the Busol Water shed.HEDCOR and Baguio Water District generously donated 800 seedlings to be planted Rtn Lani Fabi announced our Feeding Program on Wednesday, 22 August, 2012 IPPFloBayquendistributed the remaining certificatesand plaques to those who were not present during

PP Benny Sunga gladly accepted the mic from PP Lito as he was the original Program Coordinator Pres LibbyduringherPresident’sTimegavethefloortoRCBSunrise President Ten Aguilar, as the custodian for our mobile clinic They donated a number of ultrasound gel to be used during medical missions Rtn Joe also explainedtoushowthegelworksduringanultrasoundexamination.Pres.Libbyalsothankedthesponsorsofour Feeding Program, and reminded that there will be nomeetingonthe1stofSeptembersinceitisaholiday.A birthday greeting was also given to Rtn. Jun Bahulwho gave us an ice cream treat

Fourgood-lookingRotarians(ahemm..),Pres.LibbyFernandez, Dir /PP Bert Talco, Rtn Joey Bugayong (who donated some of the books) andme started the daywithaheftybreakfastofcoffeeandsandwichesattheconvenience store in a gasoline station near BaguioGeneralHospital (BGH)whichwasourmeetingplace.Spouse Larry Apostol and another handsome guy accompanying Pres Libby was also with us

At around 10 am, our convoy of three cars reached Taloy Sur Elementary School We were warmly greeted by its Principal Ms Helen Caroy and the President of RCC Mr.DavidAndres.Theteachers,parentsandofficersofRCCweretheretowitnesstheBookdonationactivity.Pres Libby explained to the teachers and the students theimportanceofreadingbooksevenwiththeadventof technology

Ms Helen Caroy, the school principal, happily told us that even the local government is supporting thisprogram and in fact, once in a while, the Mayor and/or the Governor come to their school to personally read books for the children.Wewereall delighted tohearthat

RCBdonatedseveralbookstoexcitedstudents.Youcan see the smiles on their happy faces which were morethanenoughtofillourheartswithjoy…

Three: RCC Officers Renewed their Commitment!

Pres. Libby inducted the new (and old) officers ofour partner in service, the RCC of Taloy Sur Mr David Andres, RCC President and the other officers raisedtheir hands and solemnly swear to do their part in the development of their community with the support of the Rotary Club of Baguio

WiththekindofcommitmentwesawfromourRCCOfficersandRCB’sunwaveringcommitmenttoservice,Ihave no doubt that all the projects and services that RCB will provide to their community will be a huge success

RCB’s Interact joinedus in thisactivityandhappilyreceivedthebooks.Theybrowsedthebookexcitedlyasiftellingus,”GohomeRotarians,wecan’twaittoreadthesebooks…”.Jokingaside,wereceivedandfelttheirgratitudetoourclub.“ThankYou,RCB”,theircoysmilestold us…

Five: RCB-Teachers-Parent’s Meeting re: Feeding Program

And to cap the day, RCB’s Health and Hunger Committee conducted a meeting with the Teachersand Parents of Lindawan Elementary School for the upcoming Feeding Program to the undernourished children of the school

Uponarrivalof the jeepatCFSoffice, itstartedtodrizzle and everyone geared up their umbrellas and covered their heads with their hats and hoods while others placed plastic bags over their rubber shoes.Pres Libby handed out a bag of ‘turon’ to everyone’s delight.Thenitwastimetotrektheslipperyandmuddyroadtowardsthemountains.Ihandedoutplasticbagscontaining the tree saplings and everyone had their shareincarryingthetreesaplingstowardstheplantingsite. The area allocated by the BWD for the plantingproject is 3000 sq meters but the area to be planted on this day is 1000 sq meters Despite the drizzle while traversing the route, everyone were in high spirits and excitedtoreachourdestination.Assoonasourtargetarea was reached, the young men of Rotaractors and Interactors together with Dir /PP Bert Talco and myself started to dig holes The ladies, then removed the tree saplingsfromtheplasticbagsandspreadouttoplantthem.Wehavealsonoticedsomeofthetreesplantedlast year and they have grown in size

It was a joy seeing thededication, the cooperation and concerted efforts ofeveryone especially the Rotaractors and Interactors who at their young age are actively participating innoteworthy activities such as this to preserve theenvironmentforfuturegenerations.

We were able to plant 700 saplings of pine trees and ipil-ipilandcompletedthetaskaround11:00am Our hands, clothes, shoes were smudged and miry when we headed back to CFS. Rtn. Babywas already therewho handed out sandwiches and juices for everyone Duringthistime,thenextactivitiesofthemaintenanceof the transplanted trees were already being discussed Wheneveryonefinishedtheirsnacks,itwastimelythatthe jeep that brought the Rotaractors and Interactors earlierarrivedtopickthemupandtheywerebroughtbacktoBrgy.Lucnab.Wethankthemprofuselyfortheirunrelentingeffortsandtheysaidthattheywerelookingforward to helping out again in our next projects Everyone rodeonDir./PPBert’s pick-up truck andwehad lunch at a nearby canteen. Can’t thank the Lordenough as strong rains didn’t bother us earlier and onlypouredafterourtreeplantingactivity.Wewaiteduntiltherainsubsidedandeveryoneheadedhometoenjoytherestoftheafternoon.ItwasablessedSundayindeed !
