LEARNING THE DANCE
"For to me, to live is Christ" Philippians 1:21 It felt awkward. Kim was showing me how to do the Texas Two-Step and I could not keep the rhythm while being very success-ful in stepping on her toes. I was rigid and very mechanical. Like the old time overseas phone calls there was a half-second delay before what I knew in my mind was transmitted to my feet. My early Christian walk, or dance, was just like that. There is a tendency for a lot of believers to be rigid and me-chanical in how we walk with Christ. Read your Bible, attend church, tithe, don't kick the dog. We read passages like hus-bands loving their wives or taming their tongue and we think that is precisely what we are going to do. As young believers that is normal, like toddlers learning to walk. Awkward, stum-bling, trying again. It is good that we see how important these things are but they are not activities on our to-do lists. These are the fruit of God's work, of Christ's life beating in our hearts and pulsating through our thoughts and actions.
Continued on page 2
“Learning the Dance” (continued from page 1) The longer we spend in God's Word and in prayer the more familiar we become to the
rhythms of God's grace. Christ no longer is the example to follow but He is now the en-
ergy and the music from within that makes our moves not only natural but graceful.
Loving your wife and taming your tongue are no longer gritting-your-teeth self-induced
and self-produced good works. They are now the beautiful fruit of Christ who is mani-
festing His life in and through us.
The Bible tells us, "Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but
let God re-mould your minds from within" (Romans 12:2, Phillips). From within. God al-
so tells us that this process of His life in us, transforming us from within starts at salva-
tion, "And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out
your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my
Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regula-
tions" (Ezekiel 36:26-27).
God's Spirit living in the believer is the One who produces in us the fruit of His pres-
ence. That is why God tells us to "be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18). He also
tells us how we are filled with His Spirit: "Let the words of Christ dwell in you rich-
ly" (Colossians 3:16). The Bible instructs us, "Walk by the Spirit" (Galatians 5:16).
I still cannot do the Texas Two-step. Because I never practice. But Christ has been
faithful and patient in teaching me the joy and beauty of walking with Him. "To live is
Christ" is not a slogan but the joyful life of Christ lived out in the good times and the
hard, in the important events to the ordinary day-by-day life. We can get better. We will
get better as we get more familiar to the rhythms of His grace. Because the One who
leads us from within is good. "For me to live is Christ."

Every Parent wants to raise great kids, yet often we fall short of our dreams. Sometimes we’re just too busy and distracted. Some of us had less than ideal role models. Some of us are working at it, but we just don’t have a good game plan. Are you willing to invest one day in order to empower your kids... forever? With God’s help and a plan, you can raise truly great kids. This conference is a grace-based, character-driven model to nurture con-fident and cooperative kids-and have a great time in the process.
Parenting is the biggest job you will ever do. Give it your best.
This fun, fast-paced conference delves into:
What it takes to raise kids in the midst of busy lives.
Practical ways to take the fear out and put the fun back into parenting
Preparing your child’s heart to re-ceive God’s plan
Turning heartache to hope with your rebellious child
How to bring out the best in your strong-willed child
Creating an environment of love and respect
Giving your child tools to practically deal with their culture
