NCH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM | Helping everyone live a longer, happier, and healthier life. Hello again, team. I want to take a moment to address the recent uptick in COVID hospitalizations in our Healthcare System. Here at NCH we have seen a drastic rise in COVID hospitalizations due to those unvaccinated. Our positivity rate inhouse is 13.38%. In fact, as of July 26, 2021, we had 82 COVID patients between our two hospitals. Of those, 70 were unvaccinated against COVID. Patients who have not received the vaccine were experiencing more severe symptoms than their vaccinated counterparts. The age of those hospitalized has also skewed younger as the virus continues to impact more of those under 65 years of age, which is in keeping with national data showing lower vaccination rates in the younger populations. Just like the flu vaccine, the COVID vaccine does not have 100 percent effectiveness but has been proven to prevent more serious symptoms and conditions. Therefore, in an effort to better safeguard our staff, patients, and visitors, we have updated our visitor policy to allow only one visitor per patient until further notice. Visitation hours remain unchanged (9am to 6pm daily) and masks remain a requirement for all those who enter an NCH facility. The rise in COVID hospitalizations locally is concerning. This increase in cases over a rather short period of time should be a warning to us all that this has become an unvaccinated pandemic and we must continue to be diligent, share facts and stand united. I want to take this time to remind our staff and our community that we must continue to be diligent in preventing the spread of COVID. NCH Healthcare System encourages all to get vaccinated. Currently, 52% of our staff are fully vaccinated, but more of us need to get the vaccine. As healthcare workers, we owe it to our community to set the example highlighting the effectiveness of the COVID vaccine. If you’re not vaccinated, please remember to wear a mask, practice physical distancing, and please continue to diligently wash your hands. 07/27/2021 TUESDAY TEAM TALK PAUL HILTZ UPDATE

GOOD CATCH FOR SAFETY

Good Catch by NN 4 CardiacTele: The nurse was confirming an IV piggyback medication before hanging it. They noticed that the concentration on the label and the order did not match. They notified pharmacy immediately for the dose concentration to be corrected. This was a Great Catch by nursing which gave us the opportunity to review our medication delivery process and a great example of why it is so important to scan medications as an added safety measure. Thank you for reporting this Great Catch!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Clarification on Administrative Roles

There was a communication that was shared a couple weeks ago regarding the changes in leadership roles within administration. In the communication we thanked our COO, Phil Dutcher, for his years of service to NCH as we celebrated his retirement and announced the promotion of Jon Kling, Chief Nursing Officer, to the role of COO. We also shared that Matt Heinle, our General Counsel, will be leading Human Resources moving forward. Previously Human Resources reported to Phil Dutcher. Renee Thigpen, Chief Human Resource Officer for the NCH Healthcare System continues in her role. The only change is the reporting structure due to Phil’s retirement.

Join the LEAP Committee Today

We are currently inviting all LPN’s to join us in developing a clinical ladder for LPN’s. In joining this committee, you will have your voices heard and your hard work recognized. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Veterans Wall Call for Items

On June 30, NCH held a public dedication for the Wall of Honor, recognizing NCH employees, care providers, physicians, and others who have served our nation in the armed forces. Led by Paul Hiltz, we had tremendous support from our local elected officials, NCH team members, and our local first responders. The display at the Baker campus and the North Naples campus each include a digital display showing images submitted of veterans from their time in service. There is also a locked display case housing memorabilia loaned to the hospital from veterans; items such as helmets, uniform shirts, and artifacts from service overseas. The Wall of Honor also pays tribute to law enforcement and first responders who have lost their lives in service to Collier County and several items are included from those agencies.

We’d like to make sure all veterans who work or volunteer with NCH have the opportunity to participate in these displays. If you have items from your time in service, or are a Blue Star Family with a child or spouse actively serving in the National Guard, Reserves, or active duty, you can reach out to [email protected] to loan items or email a picture. Please include name, branch of service, your role at NCH or other brief details you’d like to include. The displays will be periodically updated so more can always be added.

NCH to Require COVID Vaccine for All New Hires, Contractors & Volunteers Beginning August 16

The NCH Healthcare System has kept the health and safety of all staff, physicians, and patients a top priority during the COVID pandemic. As we reviewed our current vaccination policy, we focused on the health of our team and community and reviewed national guidelines to guide policy changes. The new NCH vaccination policy complies with all federal, state, and local rules and regulations and was based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recommendations.

The vaccination policy applies to all employees, contractors, and volunteers. Non-employed medical staff are currently not included in the policy. Starting August 16, all new hires will be required to complete the COVID vaccine series within four weeks of their hire date. This policy is similar to our current flu vaccination policy which allows for exemptions.

To read the new NCH Healthcare System vaccination policy which goes into effect August 16, please Click HERE.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

COVID Update

NCH leaders are following the current COVID surge throughout the state and region closely. The COVID positivity rate in Collier County has been reported at 11.2% (week of 7/9 to 7/15). Additionally, the new case positivity rate in the state of FL has risen sharply over the past 5 weeks.

As a result, the COVID Taskforce is implementing and encouraging the following:

1. Limiting visitation to 1 visitor per patient in general in critical care areas (including surgical waiting area). Effective7/20/21.

2. Use of Webex and/or other technology to conduct virtual meetings in lieu of face to face meetings with larger groups.

3. Social distancing in employee break rooms and lounges. Masking in all areas while on NCH property.

The COVID vaccine is the only way to ensure that your risk of severe illness is significantly reduced. Our team will be on-site to offer the vaccines in the hospital cafeteria areas on 7/20 & 7/26 (Baker campus), and 7/28 & 7/29 (NN campus) from 11 am to 2 pm. Employees can also obtain the vaccine in the clinic (Eagleview location) Monday-Friday.

The COVID vaccine team has added the following dates in August:

• Downtown Campus: 8/4/21 and 8/10/ 21 from 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM

• North Naples Campus: 8/2/21 and 8/11/21 from 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM

The Northeast ED Team has Reached 90 Percentile in Patient Satisfaction

The Northeast ED team for the month of July 2021 has reached a 90 percentile in patient satisfaction in all domains! This is an incredible achievement. two months ago, they had patient satisfaction scores below a 50 percentile. Our Northeast ED team went through extensive training on how to improve the patient experience. Strategies included continued reinforcement with hourly rounding, using the AIDET communication tool, and updating their white boards in the rooms. The Northeast ED team is so proud to see their hard work, compassion, and kindness pay off. Congratulations to the Northeast ED Team!

New CARING Team Award Recognition

The CARING Team Award is a concept brought to us by DAISY/CARING Award committee at NCH. We recognize that while an idea to achieve better patient and family outcomes may start with one individual, it often takes an entire team to implement successfully.

The CARING Team Award is designed to honor collaboration by two or more people, led by a Tech, who identify and meet patient and patient family needs by going above and beyond the traditional role of a Tech or Technologist.

The CARING Team Award will complement our ongoing CARING and DAISY Award program that honors individual direct caregivers for their extraordinary compassion and skill.

• It will be presented twice a year.

• Must be two or more techs and/or technologists nominated.

• No more than two departments will be recognized at one time.

• The CARING/DAISY chair will make a call for team awards twice a year.

• Team members are role models of collaboration and teamwork that make a difference in the lives of patients, families, employees, and the community.

• Team members create a culture of trust, respect, and engagement through NCH organization values of accountability, stewardship, professionalism, integrity, respect, and excellence.
