Fritz Leonhardt was one of the most important engineers of the 20th century. He is famous not only for his pioneering work on bridges, but also for his high-rise structures such as the Stuttgart television tower (the world’s rst TV tower built from reinforced concrete – prototype for many others) and his basic researching work on reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete.

Leonhardt was an honorary member of many international organisations and the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions like the Freyssinet Medal from the Fédération Internationale de la Précontrainte, the Gold Medal from the Instituition of Structural Engineers, several honorary doctorates and many more.
