Presidents Report
Another dressage year has begun and this year the CCDA award year and financial year will coincide. Our
presentation night was held at Gosford Golf Club in February. It was great to see our members out of their riding gear
and enjoying a social evening. Congratulations to all prize winners and thanks to all those that competed through the
year to make a competition exactly that - a competition. Whether you won a prize or not you contribute to the success
of our Club.
Our March competition went ahead after much deliberation. Based on the fact that the Central Coast had not received
the large amount of rain other districts had, the arenas were safe and rideable and so much work had already gone
into preparation for the competition, we decided to give it the go ahead. We were also aware that many competitors
wanted a competition as so many had been cancelled with the appalling weather.
Many thanks to Valda Darin for allowing us to use her complex with wet conditions making preparation so difficult.
Also special thanks to Michel for all the work associated with the loss of one A-level judge (flooded in), and also to
Jane and Shauna for their efforts in gaining all the helpers. As usual the committee pulled together to make the day a
success – thanks to all.
We look forward to seeing you at our Championships! Fingers crossed for better weather.

What’s News? Weather holds out for March competition
We were very lucky that the weather held out for our competition on the 4th March. It was a close call as Friday and Saturday
brought some heavy falls. The committee did not want to be forced to cancel this competition, especially after having to cancel
our November competition. Luckily the weather turned for the better and we were able to hold a very successful competition
under a clear blue sky!
Thank you helpers A huge thank you to the following people for helping us at our last competition: Irene Gavenlock, Prue Rowland, Phyllis Dodd,
Lyn Politis, Janet Hurt, Kate Cathers, Lyn Darlington, Tina Armstrong, Maide Dodd, Suzie Laidler, Sue Ford, Terri Hunt, Rachel
Annabel, Karen Coventry, Karen Jessup, Sue Fidler, Libby Sauer, Margaret Bowery, Pip Cooper, Petria Briggs, Lizzie Wilson
Fellows, Andrea Westwood, Louise Faseas, Kara Connally, Kaitlyn Payne, Brianna Cartwright, Eva Wright, Michel Oakley, Dallas
Sharvall, Wendy Paxton, Chelsea Hastings, Bill Barrett, Lita Hernandez, Cindy Kelly, Sonia Harding and Maxine Cummings.
Friendly reminder! Firstly, please be aware that all horses must have 2 bridle numbers, one on each side. These can be attached to the bridle or the
saddlecloth.
Secondly, on competition days please do not bring horses that are not competing.
‘Like’ us on Facebook CCDA have recently “re-launched” our Facebook site. For updates and reminders on competition closing dates, draw publication

Reclaiming the ‘Joy’ – a note from the editor I was very much the type of person who wanted my tests as close together as possible so that I could turn up, do my two tests
and then leave. I suppose it didn’t come as a huge shock when I began to lose interest in competing and therefore riding.
It was a culmination of a few things. I had a ‘blue’ with my riding instructor, who thought I wasn’t putting in the effort required. I
felt I was putting in the effort and was dissatisfied at not achieving the results. I had fallen off my horse four times in as many
months (twice at CCDA comps!) and I could no longer get my horse on the float. Is it any wonder that the joy was gone?!
Time to re-evaluate. My love for horses and riding hadn’t changed; I just didn’t want to compete. But…if I wasn’t competing,
what was the purpose of training? Would I be satisfied with trail riding alone? For me, I needed the competition for motivation,
goal setting and purpose. The dilemma remained.
A close friend of mine, who was and still is on the CCDA committee, suggested I become involved to see if I could find the ‘joy’
again that way. I took a bit of convincing, sounded like more work to me. I was only just getting myself established in a teaching
career and wasn’t sure if I was ready to take on other commitments. Regardless of any trepidation, I put my hand up for
newsletter editor.
I can tell you that it is one of the best decisions I have made in terms of my riding ‘career’. It has been around a year and a half
since I have joined the committee. Not only have I met some fantastic, like-minded people, but I now ‘belong’. I am somebody. I
no longer turn up, ride my test and leave, never having spoken more than a few words to someone who I don’t know. I make a
day of it. It is now a social event rather than a disappointing chore. I have learnt a lot too! I can now pencil, score and gear
check! I know who is who and what is what! I am even starting to bring home ribbons again!
My reason for sharing this is simple. We often sit in our committee meetings, wondering how to attract new people to join and
contribute to their club. For years the same people have been working tirelessly to make this club as successful as it has been
over the past 30 years. Unfortunately it is inevitable that these people will have to step down at some point. The problem
is….who will step up? Which brought me here. Why did I join? Surely others feel or have felt like I have at some point?
We need new people to join our committee. It is plain and simple. The club doesn’t run on its own and too few people do all the
work. Come to one of our meetings and have your say…or just listen. Meet us, we don’t bite (our horses might though)! Think
about becoming part of the committee, no strings attached. Do as little or as much as you can. We all have full time work
commitments and/or family so we are completely understanding of each other’s limitations. Come and make some new friends
and “reclaim the joy”!

5. Treasurer’s Report - February 2012
Reconciled Balance @ 1January 2012 Operating account $14,064.31
Reconciled Balance @ 14 November 2012 Term Deposit $ 8,866.48 (matures 12 Feb 2012)
Quarter 2 (1 Oct 2011 to 31 Dec 2011) Profit & Loss $ 61.70 Loss
Year to Date (1 Jul 2011 to 31 Dec 2011) Profit & Loss $ 3,833.61 Profit
Total Income for period (1 Jul to 31 Dec 11) $11,420.00
Total Cost for period (1 Jul to 31 Dec 11) $ 7,586.39
Competition November 2011 competition was cancelled due to wet weather
No costs were incurred except for trophies ($110.10) which will be reworked and used in the future, and cake which could not
be cancelled ($25).
Commentary:
Unfortunately this quarter incurred a loss ($61.70) due to the cancellation of the November competition. Luckily the competition was
able to be cancelled before any costs were incurred for arena preparation. The only costs incurred as a result of the cancellation were
catering expenses that were unable to be cancelled ($25), and trophies ($110.10) which will be able to be used in future competitions. In
addition Nominate (our internet entry provider) was able to refund all monies ($5,442) paid through the internet for entries to the
competition via EFT. This saved at least 6 hours of work writing cheques and recording the details in MYOB.
