We warmly welcome Friends’ School to a cold Bal-lymacormick! As a former pupil of Friends’ (I boarded for three years under Ernie McLeary!) I have very fond memories of the school and its ethos to school rugby.
Barney McGonigle was my first PE Teacher and he instilled in me the importance of playing to win, but playing in the right fashion. I know that to-day’s match will be no different! BGS has some strong links with FSL. We exchanged Mr Atkins
and Mr Smyth for Mr Greer – two could only do his job! I also (very old now!) taught and coached Mr Robinson at Sullivan Upper, and wrote his reference for the PE Post! Rab….you owe me one. Enjoy the game and please be quiet for kicks at goal. DK

DK’S VIEWS
EDITORIAL
On St Patrick’s Day last year, Ballymena Academy shocked Ulster by beating Belfast
Royal Academy in the Schools’ Cup Final. Now, after what seems like only a few months , the new campaign has already begun.
Bangor Grammar School has a stunning heritage when it comes to rugby, some evidence is proven on page 6, however 16 years have now passed since our last visit to the final. The wait for the sixth Schools’ Cup victory is now at a shameful 23 years.
The time has now come for another trip to Ravenhill, and the “golden gen-eration” has now peaked. The first XV are at last playing well and winning matches on a regular basis. The team has already overcome local rivals Re-gent House, RBAI, Sullivan Upper, BRA and raised many eyebrows through-out their unbeaten streak which lasted until mid-December.
I wish the 1st XV well in their new campaign.

THIRD ROUND FIXTURES IN BRIEF
I’d like to, on behalf of all the players, thank you for coming this morning to support us in this very important match. Your support has been great all year and we are very grateful.
There has been a lot of hard work put in by coaches and players alike this year and the many years before. Hopefully with the right blend of passion, hard work and skill, the rest of the sea-son will be very successful, starting of course
with a good performance and win today.
Thanks for the support, Darren Kelly.

Position Inside Centre Height 6’ 2”

Name Gareth Irvine Age 18
Position Flanker / Second Row Height 6’ 3”
Weight 14 Stone Number 6
Comment “ ‘Gaz’ has shown his ability this season with a number of out-standing performances. He has great strength and can break the line at ease. His pace is incredible, and he has the physical strength to match. Be sure to watch this young man today.”
Here Jason Morgan (BGS Rugby Coach) tells The Gryphiti who to watch out for in today’s game including their strengths, weaknesses and all of the essential information.

Name Jonathan Gordon Age 17
Position No. 8 Height 6’ 0”
Weight 13 Stone Number 8
Comment “Jonny is regarded as a big game player. He has shown this during the season. His hard running and hard hitting style has had many people asking why he hasn’t gone on to further honours. Will deliver a big performance today.”
Name Luke Dornan (head boy) Age 17
Position 2nd Row Height 6’ 3”
Weight 13 Stone Number 4
Comment “ Luke has gone from strength to strength so far this season. An incredibly athletic individual, who’s ball carrying skills have had most defences in trouble. He also can dominate the aerial battle in any match.”
Name Michael Aspley Age 18
Position Outside Centre Height 6’ 0”
Weight 14 Stone Number 13
Comment “ A close second for MVP this year. Mike’s power and strength are a huge asset for the team. He is the biggest ball carrier on the team and makes yards with 2 or 3 defenders on him at a time. Defence is also a strength with several big tackles so far this year.”
