“a-g” Subject Requirements

UC vs. CSU Course Requirement ComparisonThe University of California and California State University have agreed to adopt the same pattern of courses; however, there will continue to be different admissions practices in some cases.

Community college courses must be noted on the self-report, reference course number and where course was taken i.e. Bus 109 Intro to Business @ DVC.

Examination Requirements(for students entering 2006)

SAT Reasoning Test or ACT for UC/CSU: UC uses highest scores in critical reading, math and writings + 2 subject tests.

CSU uses critical reading + math (writing score not included)

UC/Two Different Subject Tests- Example of subject test: English literature, foreign language, science, or social studies, math II C

Sending a Transcript?

UC/CSU applications require self report. Do not send transcripts at time of application. Schools will notify student if requesting 7th semester transcript (January).

Send AP Test Scores, transcript from high school in June and any community college work with Intent to Register. (School you have chosen to attend)

University credit is granted for Adv Placement test scores of 3 or higher

Sending a Transcript?

Grades must be maintained in the senior year or the acceptance may be rescinded.

If an academic class is dropped after the application has been submitted, the student must notify each university to which he/she has applied.

Transcript can be obtained from the Registrar for $2.00 each. Student must fill out transcript request form and provide self-addressed stamped envelope.

Calculated beginning in 10th grade in approved courses only (a-g)

UC Eligibility Index

A student meets the Scholarship Requirement if he or she achieves the GPA (2.8 minimum in California) and test score total indicated in the Eligibility Index.

Example: 2.80 – 2.84 = 2860

3.40 – 3.44 = 1882

Use this formula to see if your grade point average and test scores meet the required eligibility index:

SAT Scores: (GPA x 800) + your SAT Total Your high school GPA (All approved college prep “a-g” courses taken in 10th,11th and 12th grades)

Transcripts and Self Report

UC/CSU require self report at time of application Obtain unofficial transcript from Career Center for reference How to read transcript for UC/CSU:

All “a – g” courses will need to be reported for application purposes. However, only “a-g” courses taken in 10 - 11 grade will be computed for UC/CSU GPA.

The estimated UC/CSU GPA can be found on the transcript: CP Weighted.

Courses with a P in front of them denote college prep and H denotes honors credit.These are the only courses to be reported.

Each university will take only a certain number of H courses.

Eligibility in the Local Contextfor the UC

The top four percent of students at each participating California high school are designated UC-eligible. UC has identified ELC students and assigned an ELC number.

SRVHS ELC students have already been notified and a file has been started by the UC system.

Students must still complete Subject and Examination Requirements

● UC Fall filing period is between November 1 – 30. May go on line Oct 1, but can not submit before Nov 1.

● CSU October 1 – November 30

● CSU Cal Poly Early Decision Oct 31 Deadline

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER 30 TO APPLY

● Students should keep each campus informed of any changes in information reported on application.

● Check at time of application for housing recommendation

● Students must respond to all inquiries for information from each campus.

Each campus reviews applications in a comprehensive manner.

Fee UC & CSU $55 each campus

Most admission decisions for freshmen are sent out between March 1 and March 30.

Many campuses have online access to admissions decisions.

Students must submit their intent to register (to one campus only) by May 1.

Request final transcript from Registrar by graduation date.
