  6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES     Evacuate area of all unnecessary personnel. Wear protective equipment and/or garments described in Section 8 exposure conditions warrant. Shut off source, if possible and contain spill. Protect from ignition. Keep out of water

Eye Contact: Eye Irritant.  May cause severe irritation.

Skin Contact: Skin Irritant.  May cause severe irritation. Minimize skin contact.  This chemical is readily absorbed through the skin in liquid or vapor phase.

Inhalation: Inhaled Hydrocarbons cause central nervous system depression at high concentrations resulting in headache, dizziness, and ultimately unconsciousness.

Ingestion: Do not ingest.  If swallowed, may be aspirated resulting in inflammation and possible fluid accumulation in the lungs.

Aggravated Medical Conditions:

Skin Disorders.

Eye Contact:   Immediately flush eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes.  If irritation or adverse symptoms develop, seek medical attention.

Skin Contact:   Immediately wash skin with soap and water for at least 15 minutes.  If irritation or adverse symptoms develop, seek medical attention.

Inhalation:   Remove from exposure.  If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.  If breathing ceases, administer artificial respiration followed by oxygen. Seek immediate medical attention.

Ingestion:   DO NOT induce vomiting.  Seek immediate medical attention.

Notes To Physician: Gastric lavage using a cuffed endotracheal tube may be performed at your discretion.

Flash Point:      15F (-9C) FP Method:      TCC, ASTM D56 Ignition Temperature:      Unknown

Lower Explosive Limit -      1.2 Upper Explosive Limit -      6.7

Fire Extinguishing Media:    Carbon Dioxide, Dry Chemicals, Foam

Fire Fighting Procedures:    Evacuate area of all unnecessary personnel. Shut off source, if possible. Use NIOSH approved apparatus and other protective equipment and/or garments described in Section C if conditions warrent. Water fog or spray may be used to cool exposed equipment and containers. Do not spray water directly on fire -product will float and could be reignited on surface of water.

Fire and explosion hazards:  Carbon oxides formed when burned. Highly flammable vapors which are heavier than air may accumulate in low area and/or spread along ground away from handling site.  Flashback along vapor trail may occur.

sources and sewers. Absorb in a dry, inert material (sand, clay, etc.). Transfer to disposal drums using non-sparking equipment.   7. HANDLING AND STORAGE     DO NOT swallow. May be aspirated into lungs. DO NOT get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Avoid breathing vapors, mist, fume or dust. Wear protective equipment and/or garments described in Section 8 if exposure conditions warrant. Wash thoroughly after handling. Immediately remove and launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation.   Store in tightly closed container. Store in well-ventilated area. Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Bond and ground during transfer. Heptane will attack some forms of plastic and rubber.   8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

  9. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

  10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

Eye Protection: If splash hazards are present use chemical goggles and a face shield.

Respiratory Protection: For concentrations exceeding an applicable exposure limit, use NIOSH approved air purifying respirator equipped with: - Organic vapor cartridges.   Air purifying respirators should NOT be used in: - Situations that exceed the maximum use concentrations of the respirator or air-purifying element established by regulatory standards. - Atmospheres containing less than 19.5 percent oxygen. - Atmospheres immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH)

Skin Protection: Use gloves resistant to the material being used (Viton, nitrile).

Ventilation: Use adequate ventilation to control concentrations below applicable exposure limits.

Other Personal Protection: Personal protection information shown in Section 8 is based upon general information as to normal uses and conditions.  Where special or unusual uses or conditions exist, it is suggested that the expert assistance of an industrial hygienist or other qualified professional be sought.

Exposure Limits: See Section 2 (Composition/Information on Ingredients).

Physical State: Liquid Appearance: Colorless Odor: Mild Odor Threshold (ppm):   Unknown Boiling Point: 195F (91C) Melting/Freeze Point: Not Established Vapor Pressure: 2.3 psia @ 100F (37.8C) Vapor Density (Air=1): 3.5 Specific Gravity @ 20 C (Water=1): 0.697 @ 60/60F (15.6/15.6C) Percent Volatile by Volume: 100 Evaporation Rate (Butyl Acetate=1): >1 Water Solubility: Negligible Viscosity: 0.83 cSt @ 100F (38C)

  11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION     Subchronic and Chronic Effects:   In a subchronic oral laboratory study, heptane, a component of this product, has produced kidney damage in male rats only.  No comparable health hazard for kidney disease is known to occur in humans. Inhaled heptane at 1,000 ppm causes central nervous system (CNS) involvement (slight dizziness) WITHOUT noticeable mucous membrane irritation.  The odor threshold for heptane is 150 ppm.    Heptane does not cause nerve damage. However, exposures at 13,000 to 19,000 ppm has caused convulsions and deaths within 15-40 minutes. Exposure of pregnant rats during gestation to toluene at levels 250 ppm and higher produced some maternal toxicity and embryo/ fetotoxicity.  A lifetime inhalation study in rats did not show any toxic effects even at the high dose of 300 ppm.   Behavioral signs of hearing loss were observed in rodents exposed well above the PEL for toluene subchronically at levels of 1000 ppm or more. Comparable effects have not been reported in humans.   Other Health Effects: A Toxicity Study Summary for heptane is available upon request.   Heptane did not interact with genetic material in several test tube assays.  These assays were the Ames assay, chromosome aberrations and gene conversions in S. cerevisiae and E. Coli. A Toxicity Study Summary for Toluene is available upon request.   Acute Data: n-Heptane: Dermal LD50 = No data available; LC50 > 2,868 ppm (4-hr., Rat); Oral LD50 = No data available.   12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION     Gambusia affinis/mosquito fish/: no effect: 5600 mg/l; toxic: 10000 mg/l/24 hr. Young coho salmon/Oncorhynchus kisutch/: no significant mortalities when applied in amounts up to 100 ppm, after 96 hours in artificial sea water at 8 deg C. White roach/Rutilus spp/: lethal in 1-4 hour: 30 mg/l. TLm Daphnia magna (mosquito fish) 4924 mg/l/24-96 hour. LD50 Goldfish/Carassius auratus/ 4 mg/l/24 hour, modified ASTM D 1345 bioassay.   13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS     Disposal should be made in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.   14. TRANSPORT INFORMATION     Ground Transportation

Stability: Stable Hazardous Polymerization: Will Not Occur Incompatability (Materials to Avoid): Oxygen and strong oxidizing agents. Hazardous Decomposition Products: Carbon oxides and various hydrocarbons are formed when burned.
