Before You can use smart view, we need to make sure that the cube has data. This means that accounting structure is in place and Financial transactions / journals have been or being posted to the ledgers. To effectively use any of the reporting tools, do get familiar with the COA structure, reporting trees and the GL balances cube. Make sure your system Administrator has created a connection to the cube.

Getting Started

Derive URL for Smart View Connection – Get URL for Workspace & Tweak It

Example

– Workspace: https://fap0716-bi.oracleads.com/workspace/index.jsp – Smart View: https://fap0716-bi.oracleads.com/workspace/SmartViewProviders – FR Studio : https://fap0716-bi.oracleads.com (Knock off /workspace/index.jsp)

Presenter
Presentation Notes
The next step is to get a connection URL to connect your SV to the cube server. You can derive this workspace URL. Replacing SmartViewProviders with index.jsp will give you the connection URLfor your SV. Knocking off /workspace/index.jsp will give you the URL for FR Studio

– Ledger Balances Table – GL Balances Cube

Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) Database Multidimensional Optimized for Reporting

– Pre-aggregated amounts at Tree Nodes – No Relational Joins – Dimensions & Facts (Measures)

Separate Cube for Average Daily Balances (ADB)

Presenter
Presentation Notes
I’ll now give you a brief overview on the GL balances Cube. In Legacy applications – ledger balances are posted to a ledger table. In Fusion, they are posted to both the balances table & an Essbase cube. The balances cube is an OLAP database. It is multidimensional and optimized for reporting. The cube stores pre-aggregated amounts and does not have to do with complex join queries! One cube is created for each unique combination of COA & Calendar.

Querying Balances Cube Understand GL Cube - General Ledger balances cube documentation) Know What You Want to Query For Each Dimension - Select a Dimension Member Common Selections – Period, Balance & Amount Type

Query Period Balance Amount Amount Type

Period Activity (BS or PL) May-2012 Period Activity Base

Quarterly Activity Q2-2012 Period Activity Base

Presentation Notes
The cube stores different types of balances & amounts. Aggregated amounts are also stored at parent levels. It is important that you know what you want to query in the cube. While querying, It is good idea to select a dimension member for each of the dimension members. Here are some common queries. Monthly activity for May 2012 – I select period = May, Balance Amount = Period Activity & Amount Type = Base. Quarter 2 activity 2012 – I select period = Quarter2, Balance Amount = Period Activity & Amount Type = Base. Yearly activity 2012 – I select period = 2012, Balance Amount = Period Activity & Amount Type = Base. Ending Balance as of May - I select period = May, Balance Amount = Ending Balance & Amount Type = Base.
