Pumped Storage Hydropower Projects
adjustable speed pump-turbine is proposedfor supporting the renewable energy (solar and wind)
• Electricity from Hydropower is served for peak load.
• The operation of hydropower make for minimum release
water as per the monthly/weekly water requirement plan.
• Urbanization in the downstream area (Water requirement for
Water supply, Environmental Flow and Flood Mitigation are
important)
• The operation of hydropower is limited for the riparian house,
tourism and fishery. However, EGAT uses the telemetering
system for monitoring during operation.

Emerging Constraints on Operational Coordination of HP Projects in Thailand
8
The constraint for Hydropower Development
• The potential sites are limited due to the topography condition.
The potential sites are mainly located in Watershed Class 1A
where are the forest cover that has never faced the disturbance
of any kind. The environmental impact is very concerned.
• NGO/ Some Civil Society not accept for the large hydropower
development.
