PORTABLE CORD

What is Portable Cord?

Portable Cord• Used for portable power distribution or any application requiring

temporary or portable power.

• Generally called Service Cord when it is intended to provide electrical service to an appliance or motor.

• The term “portable” indicates that it is intended for non-permanent use.

• The term “flexible” may be added to define flexible cords and flexible cables used in applications specified by Article 400 of the National Electric Code.

• Depending on the type, size, and application, portable cord may have the following 3rd party designations or a combination of: UL, CSA, MSHA, OSHA.

ABC’s of Portable Cords

Every letter in the “Portable Cord” designation has a specific meaning relating to the cord’s construction and application:

S Service: UL recognized insulation and jacket

J Junior: same as above but only 300V; thinner jacket

E Elastomer: Thermoplastic Elastomer

O Oil resistant jacket

OO Oil resistant inner conductors and jacket

W Weather resistant for outdoor applications

• Large Size SEOOW is 600V

• SEOOW and SJEOOW are UL, CSA and MSHA approved

• Industry standard for large size portable cord is non-UL, but UL approved product is available upon request

• All offer a wide temperature range and superior performance (-50°C to 105°C)

• Applications for Seoprene SEO Portable Cord: Industrial & motor controls, compressors, robotic systems, portable tools

• Applications for Large size Seoprene SEO Portable Cord: Portable power for generators and higher ampacity applications
