1. Scope
This specification covers the construction, dimension, packing and test requirements of 132kV single core
copper conductor, cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) insulated, corrugated & seamless aluminum sheathed
and MDPE outer sheathed.
2. Reference Standards
IEC 60228 : Conductors of insulated cables
IEC 60840 : Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated voltages above
30 kV (Um = 36 kV) up to 150 kV (Um = 170 kV) Test methods and requirements
3. Constructi on and Material
Construction of the cable shall meet the requirements specified in the attached table and as follows.
3.1 Conductor
The conductor shall consist of the circular compacted construction stranded from the plain annealed copper
wire in accordance with IEC 60228(class 2).
The conductor shall be water sealed by additional water swellable tape(s) between the conductor strands.
3.2 Conductor screen
Over the conductor, semi-conducting thermosetting compound shall be extruded as a conductor screen.
Semi-conducting swellable tape(s) shall be applied between the conductor and the conductor screen.
3.3 Insulation
The insulation shall be an extruded cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE) over the conductor screen.
The minimum thickness at any point shall not be less than 90% of nominal value specified in the attached
table.
3.4 Insulation screen
Over the insulation, semi-conducting thermosetting compound shall be extruded as insulation screen and
shall be firmly bonded to the insulation.
The conductor screen, insulation and insulation screen shall be extruded simultaneously by dry curing
process.

5. Sealing and drumming
Immediately after the works tests, both ends of the cable length shall be sealed by means of metal capand pulling eye fitted over the end and plumbed to the metallic sheath.
The completed cable shall be wound on the non-returnable steel drum.
All cable drums shall be arranged to take a round spindle and lagged with closely fitting steel sheets.
6. Tests
The following tests shall be carried out at manufacturers works according to the procedure of IEC 60840.
6.1 Routine tests
1) A.C Voltage test
2) Partial discharge test
3) Electrical test on non-metallic sheath
6.2 Sample tests
1) Conductor examination and check of dimensions
2) Measurement of electrical D.C. resistance of conductor
3) Hot set test for XLPE
4) Measurement of capacitance
