What You Should Expect SketchUp to DoThings You Can do with SketchUp:

Start a model in lots of different waysBuilding From ScratchWith another computer fileFrom a photograph..Pic up your Phone and capture a building...withing a couple of hours.. The building withe all its colors and detials are in your hand...In Google Earth...Yes ofcourse ...This is Amazing

Things You Can do with SketchUp:Modeling without worrying about space limitShare Your ModelPrintExport image (Jpg, pdf, dwg.....) or 3d (Google Earth.Kmz or cad files...etc)Export moviesUpload to the 3D Warehouse

Roghly Explain the Getting Started & Standard ToolbarRoughly Explain the Menu Bar12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201521Go to SketchUP & Create a simpe model for (view, Axis and Pannig)

Notes about the axis

When you draw, move, or copy something parallel to one of the colored axes, you are working in that colors direction

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201522Go to SketchUP

Notes about View of what you are doingOrbit: a free style for viewing your model....You can select (Orbit) From the camera menuOrYou can select (Orbit) by holding the scroll button

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201523Go to SketchUP & Give Example

Zooming in and out:The worst way is from the Camera menuThe next worst way is to click the zoom tool button in the toolbarThe best way to zoom is to roll your finger on the scroll wheel of your mouse to zoom in and out.Use zoom extents to see everyting.

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201524Go to SketchUP & Give Example

Panning Around:Pan is on the camera menuPan is also on the toolbarOR THE BEST WAY IS Hold down your mouses scroll wheel button and press Shift

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201525Go to SketchUP & Give Example

Drawing Edges ((Lines)) (Give Illustrations))Select the Line tool (Pencil tol)Click where you want your line to beginMove your cursor to the desired endpoint for your line, and click again to end. When you want the Line tool to stop drawing Lines, Press ESC to snip the line at the last spot you clicked.{ Turning off Rubber Banding lines} (continous line){WindowsPreferencesDrawing Deselect continous line drawing check box}Eraser: Either by clicking certain edges or by dragging over edges...

Injecting Accuracy into your modelUsing Value Control Box (VCB)

List of things you can use it to do:Make a line a certain length (Give Example)Draw a rectangle a certain size (Give Example)Push/Pull a face a certain distance (Give Example)Change the number of sides in a polygon (Give Example)Move something a given distance (Give Example)Rotate something by a certain number of degree (Give Example)Make a certain number of copies (Later)Dive a line into a certain number of segments (Later)Changing a field of view (how much you can see) (Later)

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201527

Notes on VCB:

You dont have to click in the VCB to enter a numberYou set the default units for the VCB in the Model Info dialog box.(( you can type the measurement regardless of what has been chosen in the Model Info))Sometimes the vcb does more than one thing:Example: click on circle and write 6 and press enterYou will end up with a circle of 6 inch radiusOrClick on circle and write 6 and press enter and then 6s and press endter You will end up with a hexagon (6 sided circle) with a radius of 6 inches. The VCB lets you change your mind

Resizing Everything with the Tape Measure ToolYou can resize any object using the measure tool...

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201529Two Rectangles (10*10*10) with and without components...

Selecting What you mean to select:Just click anything in your model to select it (while you are using the select tool of course)To select more than one thing, hold down shift while you click all the things you want to select12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201530

Important: Selected objects in Sketchup look different depending on what king of objects they areSelected edges and guides turn blueSelected faces look covered in tiny blue dotsSelected groups and components get a blue box around themSelected section planes turn blueImportnat : A much fancies way to select things in your model is toDoubel click & Triple ClickWhen you double click a face, you select that face and all the edges defining itWhen you triple click a face, you select the whole object that its a part of.

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201531Double & Triple Click example

Move tool:You can move, shape and make copies with the move toolPress ctrl to copy using move toolYou can make more than one copy at a time.

Multiple spaced copies

Making and Using Guides:Sometimes you need to draw temprary lines while you are modeling. These temporary lines, called guides, are useful for lining things up, making things the right size, and gnerally adding precision and accuracy to what you are building.

GuidesLines

When you see (+) next to your cursor, your Tape Measure can make guides** you can create different kinds of guides using (Tape Measure tool)** Parallel Guide Lines: Click anywhere (Except the endpoints or mid points) along an edge and just move your mouse** Linear Guide Lines: Click one of the endpoints or the midpoint once and then click again some where else ALONG the edge

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201537Example

ImportantNote: Tape Measure tool has two modes and it only creates guides in one of them.Pressing Ctrl toggles between the modes. When you see (+) next to your cursor, your Tape Measure can make guides, when there is no (+) it cant.

12/12/2014Geo Technical Engineering Page 2014-201538Show them

Deleting GuidesHow to delete guides?Just click or drag over the with the Eraser tool to delete guides individually or you can also dete them by right-click and choose Erase from the context menu.To Erase all your guides at once: EditDelete guidesTo hide guides: Right click a single guide and choose Hideor Deselect ViewGuides to hide all of them (its a good idea to hide guides instead of erasing them, especially while you are still modeling)*You can select, move, copy and rotate guides jut like any other entity in your model

Sharing Your MasterpieceNow that you have a model that looks about the way you want it to, you probably want to show it to somenoneAnd the easiest way to do that is by exporting a JPEG imageSteps to Export your model in JPEG format areNavigate around (using orbit, zoom and pan) until you like the view of your model that you see in your modeling windowChoose FilesExport2D GraphicIn the Export dialog box that opens, choose JPEG from the Export Type drop-down menuPick a location on your computer system and give your exported imae a nameClick the Exrpot button to create a JPEG image of whats visible in your modeling window
