    WELCOME TO GENEVADear colleagues

Welcome to the WCPT Congress 2019 and to Geneva.

For those who have attended a WCPT Congress in the past, it will be a chance to reconnect with old friends and colleagues, and gain new knowledge and ideas. For those of you attending your first congress, we can tell you it will be unforgettable. We hope you’ll be inspired to expand your knowledge and build connections.

The Congress Programme Committee has created an excellent programme, which offers a range of engaging and thought-provoking issues in a wide variety of session formats. Whether you’re a student at the start of your career or a more established clinician, manager, educator, researcher or policy maker, you’ll find plenty to inform, educate, and entertain you during congress.

The programme celebrates and showcases our profession and its achievements in patient care, service delivery, and evidence base. We know how much congress delegates value networking opportunities and the programme offers more than 30 networking sessions.

Congress is where the world of physical therapy meets, and it is the people who attend congress who give the event its sense of global professional unity. As we at WCPT have said on many occasions: ‘We meet, we connect, we share, we talk, we laugh, we dine, we create lasting friendships – and because of that, we are better.’

We thank all member organisations, regions and subgroups who ensure WCPT truly represents the global community.

But, most of all, we thank you. Every congress has welcomed the world’s most diverse selection of committed physical therapists – wherever they practise and wherever they may be in their individual careers.

Thank you for your part in making this year’s congress fun, fulfilling, and unforgettable.

We hope you will be inspired.

At MyoSwiss, our mission is to improve the quality of life for people with mobility impairments through innovative assistive technologies.

We are developing the MyoSuit, an innovative training device, for people with mobility impairments. It is a wearable robotic garment suit, that combines robotic and functional textiles. Using artificial intelligence and lightweight materials, we enable personalized and functional training for people with mobility impairments. Simple and anywhere they want. This lightweight device acts like an added layer of muscle, giving people the newfound strength to get up from a chair or navigate a flight of stairs. We are closely working together with health care professionals in Switzerland and France to better anticipate and advocate the needs of their patients.

Enraf-Nonius is market leader in the world of technological solutions for rehabilitation and physiotherapy. We deliver products and projects of the highest quality according to the most advanced techniques and make these products available world-wide via our international distributor’s network. By handling the highest possible level of quality and service, we enable health centres to look after their patients and clients in the most effective and efficient way, and therapists to guarantee their treatments on a daily basis. Enraf-Nonius contributes to a longer, healthier and happier life.

A successful therapy begins in the patients’ minds. We firmly believe they can reach their goals and regain quality of life. This is what we work for at the Swiss medtech company Hocoma, with technologies and ideas that enable independent exercise, create maximum motivation and challenge people to take courage and support their hopes with personal achievements.

Our robotic and sensor-based devices offer solutions for intensive gait therapy (Lokomat®, Andago®), functional therapy of the upper extremities (Armeo®), robotic mobilization and functional electrical stimulation in early rehabilitation (Erigo®) and functional movement therapy for low back pain treatment (Valedo® Therapy Concept).

Kiso is a company that markets electromyography instruments for the clinical practice and sports-science. Biofeedback gives the clinician an understanding for each customer’s specific problem. Numbers are put on the performance giving objective results for status and progress. With biofeedback the optimal exercises can be found for the problem. The customer understands how to do the exercise correctly through visualization and gets motivated. This

individualized approach results in a faster and better healing. Similar methods are used in sports for injury-prevention, fit-for-fight-evaluation and maximizing the effect of training program. Better insight and targeted exercises are particularly interesting for a complex joint as shoulder where problems can become chronic. During the conference an industrial workshop will illustrate an application related to shoulder problems.
