10 Different Types of Roofs
Roofs are very essential section of a home. There are numerous types of roof from which you can
choose any one depending on your requirements and choice. Roof is very important thing that
must be kept in mind when designing and building your own home. Different roofs have different
benefits and properties. Here are 10 different types of roof styles, which one is your favorite?
MANSARD ROOF Mansard roof is made of four slopes. Two slopes on each side of home.
The lower slope is steeper. Upper slope is mostly not visible from the ground. This type of
mansard roof allows additional space for storage at the top of roof.
GAMBREL ROOF Gambrel roof is very similar to the mansard roof. The main difference is
that it has vertical gable ends and roof hands over the frontage of the building.
SALTBOX ROOF Saltbox roof is a very neat and interesting design as it is an asymmetrical
long slanting roof with one long side and one short side.
PYRAMID ROOF Pyramid roof shaped like a pyramid. This type of roof is mainly used for
small structures.
HIP ROOF Hip roof is very similar to pyramid roof just one difference is that instead of joining
to a point at the top, it’s all four sides meet at ridge or flat spot.

BONNET ROOF Bonnet roof is very similar to pyramid and hip roof. The difference is that
two slides slope out an angle.
FLAT ROOF Flat roof is the most easiest and safer construction. The only drawback of the flat

CROSS GABLED ROOF Cross Gabled Roof is one of the types of gabled roof. It looks
like triangle from the front of the home.
TILE ROOF Tile Roof is an excellent choice for a home with numerous benefits like long lasting,

SKILLION ROOF Skillion Roof is a single sloping roof surface. It has a triangular roof or you
can think it as a flat roof that is slightly sloped. It is mostly used on a portion of home. It can be
merged with other roofing styles to create a unique roof structure.
