UPCOMING EVENTS

Dear Brothers:

Thank you for your support with the C&B Raffle, Altar Servers’ Appreciation Dinner, May Crowning,

Ladies Auxiliary formation and Vegas Night. Your service to our Council and Community is a shining

example of Charity, Unity and Fraternity.

On May 13, 2011, our Council recognized the tremendous efforts provided by of our Altar Servers. We

presented each Server with the Knights of Columbus Altar Servers Certificate and thanked each one

individually for his or her service. Afterwards, a dinner was held in their honor. Thanks to Steve

Gheduzzi for organizing this fitting tribute to our Altar Servers. He did a fantastic job and deserves a

very special thank you. Thanks also to John Flynn and Tommy Gervasi for preparing the dinner; Daniel

Baker, Bob Manfredi, Rob Firriolo and Steve’s daughter Lindsey for serving the dinner and desert.

Our Council will host the final presentation of the Third Degree in its current format on Sunday, June

12th. Please encourage your Brother Second Degree members to attend this wonderful Degree. Also

encourage your brother Third and Fourth Degree members to witness this final presentation. It promises

to be an exciting Degree.

Our Past Grand Knight, Anthony Pelliccio, has been nominated by the Westchester/Putnam Conference

as the 2011/2012 Conference Warden. This is a tremendous honor for Anthony and our Council. Please

support Anthony by attending the June 17th Conference meeting and election in Harrison, New York.

We will meet at our Council that night at 5:45 p.m. and leave promptly at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be

served immediately following the meeting. There is no charge for the dinner.

Spring is nearly complete, yet only recently have we witnessed the warmth of the season. We don’t need

the sunshine to produce warmth within our community. Each one of us can provide warmth to our

neighbors with a smile or kind gesture. Let us be the disciples Christ asks us to be by continuing to

support one another and aid each other in our times of need. Please pray for the victims of the recent

tornadoes in Alabama, Missouri and Massachusetts. As always keep the memory of our fallen soldiers

in your hearts.

I hope you will join me in our upcoming events. We need your support at the June 12th Third Degree,

June 17th Conference meeting, St. James Feast, July 9th Procession, July 11th Council Golf Outing and

July 24th Hudson Valley Renegades baseball game. The dates and times for these events can be found at

November 26th, 2011 (Saturday) – 9:00 a.m.: Assemble the St. James Nativity Scene & Council decorations.

Blood Drive - July 1st

the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Service at the VFW Post 1374

[Daniel J. O'Brien Hall, 32 Gleneida Ave. in Carmel] on Friday, July 1,

2011 from 2:00 till 8:00 p.m.

For your pint, you'll receive a coupon for appetizers at Fiddler's Green

Pub and one for Applebee's Restaurant. You'll also get a much cherished

t-shirt from New York Blood Center.

There will be food and refreshments on hand for your replenishment.

Columbia Magazines Wanted

Please bring your copy of Columbia magazine to the Council in support of our program to donate them to others who have interest in learning about the good works of our Order. Be sure to check out the story in this month’s edition on the Knights’ efforts to distribute wheelchairs to needy people around the world. Thanks to brother Dennis O’Connor and the generosity of our Council, we have been able to join in this effort through the Wheelchair Foundation and purchase many chairs.

Stop NYS Redefinition of Marriage

Governor Andrew Cuomo wants to redefine marriage to include gay couples. This

undermines the Catholic Church's teaching that Marriage is a Sacrament between

one man and one woman. This is the first step in undermining all teachings of our

precious Church.




Fifty years ago, no Catholic thought abortion would be legal in our Country or that

marriage would be redefined. Yet here we are!

Brothers, please take a stand and call Senator Greg Ball's Office asking him to

reject Governor Cuomo's plan to redefine marriage. His office hours at 9 a.m until

5 p.m., and his phone numbers are:

Talking points:

1) “I am a constituent of the Senator and I firmly believe marriage is now, and

always will be, the union of one man and one woman.”

2) “Please tell the Senator to reject Gov. Cuomo's plan to radically redefine

marriage.”

3) “If same-sex couples are being denied certain rights, this should be addressed,

but not by redefining marriage.”

4) “I am counting on the Senator's vote against the Governor's bill.”

Fund-raising for Injured Kent P.O. Vinny Bade

We are assisting with fund-raising for Kent Police Officer Vinny Bade,

seriously injured in a car accident. His medical bills continue to mount and

his sick time is dwindling. Fund-raising t-shirt orders are being taken by

our own SK Dan Baker, with a sign-up sheet in our Lounge.

A "10-13"* fund-raising event has been announced for Saturday, June 25th,

at the Lake Carmel firehouse. Please pray for Vinny's swift recovery and

donate as generously as your means allow.

[* "10-13" is police radio code for "assist police officer."]

Duties of Council Officers

CHAPLAIN

The chaplain is the spiritual advisor of the

council. He is expected to make a report at

council meetings on religious matters. The

Grand Knight appoints a priest, in

accordance with any rules established by the

bishop of the diocese, to serve as council

chaplain. The chaplain should also serve as

an advisor to the council’s church activities

director.

The symbol of the chaplain is the Isabella Cross in silver and

blue hung from a black ribbon.

Our Worthy Chaplain is Father Anthony Sorgie of

St. James the Apostle – Our Lady of the Lake Mt.

Carmel parish. When he is unavailable to make our

meetings, we are thankful that Father John

DeBellis comes in his place.
