Page 1: 10 innovative ways the Crystal building is using IoT

1. This intelligent building is fed by over 3,500 data points from IoT sensors and devices, as well as data from an outdoor weather station.1

2. A state of the art building management system allows the building to be managed remotely from anywhere in the world.2

3. The lighting system automatically adjusts for brightness and color, according to the time of day and detected occupancy. Natural daylight is used wherever possible.3

4. Indoor and outdoor conditions are automatically sensed and ventilation is adjusted to the most energy-efficient ventilation mode for each part of the building. When seasonally possible, the building is naturally ventilated.5

5. Smart node technology allows the building to store electricity in a battery during off peak hours for use during peak hours. Any surplus can also be exported.6

6. An intelligent fire safety system can differentiate between false alarm triggers, such as steam, and real indicators of fire.8

7. The building can measure every kilowatt of electricity it uses and compare its performance against other buildings across the world.9

8. The building consumes 46 percent less energy10 and emits 70 percent less carbon dioxide than comparable office buildings.11

9. It is the first building to achieve the highest sustainable building certification awards from both BREEAM and LEED.12

10. The combination of these intelligent building technologies contributes to energy costs savings of approximately £500,000 a year.13
