Picton Smart and ConnectedNew waynding signageHave you noticed the new Waynding Signage popping up around town?

This has been a collaborative project between Picton Smart and Connected, Picton Business Group, Marlborough District Council and Te Ātiawa. A great example of Picton groups working together for the greater good.

A special thank you to Graham Low and the PS+C Public Spaces project group.

Can you help Picton Little Theatre?Picton Smart and Connected Heritage Group are planning their next series of Picton Heritage plaques. Included in these is a plaque for Picton Little Theatre.

The plaques feature images of the original structures where possible (see Picton Railway Station plaque below right). Would you believe that we have been unable to source an old photo of the Picton Little Theatre. The PLT committee have contacted Picton Museum, Marlborough Museum and other archives without success. Curious but true!

Do you have an old photograph of the Foresters Hall (now Picton Little Theatre)? If so, please can you get intouch by emailing Carmen Gimpl at [email protected] or Nicci Neilson at [email protected].

If your image is suitable it may go on the Heritage plaque for all to see.

EPro8

Waikawa Bay School

By William Barclay

On Tuesday a group from my school went to Bohally to  compete in the inter school EPro8 challenge. The EPro8 is  a competition about Engineering, Electronics and Maths.  We split into three teams of four to compete against other  schools, my teams name was the Waikawa Warriors.

There were a variety of dierent challenges to complete,  and each challenge gave you points. We had 2.5 hours to  complete as many challenges as we could... It was nail  biting stu!

It was critical that we kept on using our teamwork and  problem solving skills to keep us in our position. One of  the teams from our school did tremendously well and  came second out of nine teams. My team came fourth.

Big shout out to Mr Lampe for giving us this amazing opportunity and to all the parents for providing the  transport, we couldn't have done it without you!

It’s Spring – feels like it is time to get out and start doing things, and to breathe fresh air in the great outdoors, (even if it is cold and raining outside the windows today). The Library is busy with Festival of Adult Learning and Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori programmes being run by Marlborough REAP. It is also Bee Awareness Month, and Dementia Awareness Month, and the Speed Limit Review is still running.

On the library website at the moment the Things We Like section is featuring “Tramping, and time to get out and about”. Here are some more real life stories and guides to entertain and maybe even encourage you to plan your own adventures:

Funding approved for local projectsMarlborough District Council’s Assets and Services Committee has approved just over $2.5 million for local projects through its Land Subdivision Account, funded by levies charged to developers for reserves and community facilities.

The following were approved for the year ending 30 June 2020 and are subject to ratication at the full Council meeting on 19 September: Awatere Memorial Hall – Car park and landscaping - $130,000. Ward Domain – Completion of car park - $11,350. Waterfall Track, Havelock – Track upgrades - $45,000. Essons Valley, Picton – New signage and interpretation panels - $30,000. Victoria Domain – Track upgrades - $50,000. Picton Foreshore Reserve – New tables, seating, rubbish bins and water fountain - $85,000. Picton Skate Park – New skate park equipment - $45,000. Okiwi Bay – New playground, seating and shade sails - $50,000. Pollard Park – Car park improvements - $745,000. A&P Park – New signage - $15,000. Harling Park – New Japanese garden entrance - $10,000. Taylor Pass dump site – Design and concept development - $25,000. Taylor River – New walkway connecting the Taylor River walking path - $120,000. Taylor River – Upgrade of the Monro Reserve car park - $200,000. Dublin Street, Picton – Redevelopment and upgrade of the streetscape - $100,000. Athletic Park – 100-metre running track feasibility study - $120,000. Seddon Domain – Tennis court fencing - $60,000. Dalton Reserve – Elizabeth Street reserve picnic tables, seating and river edge access - $110,000. Funds were also set aside for regional playgrounds ($250,000) and reserves ($300,000).

Roll-out of Pay by Plate to Picton and rest of BlenheimFollowing hot on the heels of the new Pay by Plate parking in Blenheim’s CBD, Council’s Assets and Services Committee recently agreed, subject to full Council approval, to begin phase two of the project.

This will see Picton’s o-street pay and display meters upgraded to Pay by Plate, followed by the conversion of the remaining 160 ‘lollipop’ meters in Blenheim.

Parking times and taris will remain the same but Pay by Plate allows people to move between kerbside parking spaces and use unspent parking credit during the day.

Project Manager Robyn Searle says the roll out of Pay by Plate in Blenheim’s CBD over the past few months has been successful and it’s important to keep the momentum going.

“The next phase of the project will be in two steps. The rst is the conversion of the Pay and Display meters in Picton’s o-street car parks, including the ferry terminal car parks. This will be carried out prior to Labour Weekend, followed by the replacement of the old lollipop meters in Blenheim after Easter next year,” Robyn said.

Some kerbside parks will change from two to four hour parking, and others to a time limit system. This will occur in certain areas where it is uneconomical to install a Pay by Plate terminal due to the low use of the car parking spaces, or to ensure consistency with nearby parking areas. For example, 13 kerbside parks in Russell Terrace will be converted to a four-hour time limit to match the adjacent Clubs of Marlborough car park, and in Scott Street, three kerbside parks outside Wairau Pharmacy will be converted to 10-minute car parks.

Pay by Plate is easy to use; you simply enter your plate number, select your parking time, press ok, pay and walk away. The ticketless system means there’s no need to return to your vehicle after you’ve paid for your parking, and the ‘Pay my Park’ app allows drivers to pay for parking and top up remotely using credit/debit cards or internet banking.
