Welcome to

Heritage Open Days broke records nationally last September, cementing its place as England’s biggest celebration of local history. Last year, the four-day festival welcomed a spectacular three million visitors, up 900,000 on 2013. The Oswestry Heritage Forum, a joint working party, drawn from local heritage organisations and the body responsible for organising Oswestry’s Heritage Open days programme, now welcome you to our 2015 events! We hope that local people and visitors to the area will enjoy the variety of attractions and activities in and around Oswestry. With a whole array of activities, a host of places to stay and eat, you will not be lost for things to do and try! The project has been supported locally with seed funding from Shropshire Council Members via Local Joint Committees. The group have been able to secure match funding from Awards for All and partners including Oswestry Town Council, enabling the project to develop. Last year 2014, Oswestry’s programme was voted Highly Commended (third) for Community Spirit, by a panel of judges who included Patron Lloyd Grossman, Simon Jenkins Chairman of the National Trust and Griff Rhys Jones President of Civic Voice. We know there is much more to be achieved and hope you will support us this year by visiting many of the attractions and activities. Patron Lloyd Grossman said “Heritage Open Days 2014 set a new standard for this much-loved event, and the huge jump in visitor numbers proves that if you make history accessible, fun and affordable it appeals to everyone. Every year, Heritage Open Days show what local communities can achieve, with passion, commitment and imagination.”

This year’s event takes place on September 10th – 13th inclusive and the forum are promising another year of fascinating and educational heritage fun!

Please do visit and enjoy our events, keep the programme, which provides you with information about our attractions more generally, and help us make this year a great year for Oswestry Heritage Open Days. Best WishesOswestry Heritage Forum Group 2015
