budget : 1.8 B€ EU funds / 2.25 B€ private contribution
Clean Sky – the PPP in Aviation R&I
• A Joint Technology Initiative is crucial to develop integrated
technologies, industry-led, up to full scale demonstrators ( up to TRL 6)
• The main European programme for greening aviation and to support
the goals of Paris Agreement COP21
• Biggest environmental benefit is coming from greening technologies
and developing low-carbon fuels

technology priorities aligned to Clean Sky 2 objectives
• Technologies are developed and brought to a maturation level ( up to TRL 6) in
Clean Sky for flight-tests for civil applications
• Many technologies, manufacturing and assembly techniques (i.e additive
manufacturing, jig-less assembly) improve cost effectiveness and increased
production rates thus resulting in higher competitiveness
Dual use & synergies with defense R&I
production rates thus resulting in higher competitiveness
• Technologies developed and tested are suitable for dual-use and/or multi-
mission applications
• The technologies developed will support and may be synergetic to further
specific developments in the defence domain beyond their maturation within
the civil R&I programme
The strategy of this CS2-FTB2 demonstrator is based on the semi-morphing
wing concept, consisting in wing geometry adaptation to flight conditions by
means of the deflection of multiple complementary and redundant classical
wing control surfaces
