Volunteers took to the streets to spread the word

about the dangers of drugs.

Thabazimbi – The Drugs End All Dreams (D.E.A.D) drug awareness campaign kicked off at Thabazimbi SPAR on Saturday 5 December. Participants spread the word about the dangers of drugs by marching through town with signs displaying a clear message – DRUGS RUIN LIVES!Stalls, motivational speakers, and interesting shows were also on the agenda for the day to entertain the community members that joined the initiative. Peet van Breda entertained attendees with

a display of discipline when he used a sword to cut a banana on a volunteer’s stomach with immense speed.The day ended off with an inspiring praise and worship session to thank God for blessing the day. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered to make the day a success.A special thank you to the Friends to Addicts Support Group, Thabazimbi SPAR, Medhof Apteek, SAVF Thabazimbi and various biker clubs who supported the event.

RENOVATIONS AT THABA PARK PROGRESSING WELL

Thabazimbi – The South Africa National Defence Forces (SANDF) regional works unit in Limpopo recently presented a progress report to the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (TLM) in which they detailed the progress they have made in renovating Thaba Park Stadium. The SANDF unit has made signifi cant progress on the renovations since they started on Wednesday 23 September. They will take a break during the festive season before resuming their activities in January 2021. TLM mayor councillor John Michael Fischer expressed satisfaction with the progress the SANDF unit has made so far. He further thanked SANDF members for the good work they are doing for the municipality and the community.

DRIVING LICENCES GRACE PERIOD EXTENDED

SA – All learner’s licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits, which expired at the start of the lockdown up to and including 31 December 2020, have been granted a further grace period until 31 August 2021. The extension is aimed at addressing, preventing, and combatting the spread of COVID-19.

Coal-fi red power plants have contributed signifi cantly to poor air quality, decreased human health, and climate change.

Lephalale –The Thabametsi coal-fi red power plant that was to be developed in Lephalale, Limpopo province, has offi cially been withdrawn by its sponsors and KEPCO-Marubeni consortium.In a public statement released on Friday 27 November, 350Africa.org informed their supporters that the coal-fi red plant would no longer be built and urged South Africa to rather use the R12.57 billion funds to build towards COVID-19 recovery.Other South African organisations that contributed to stop the coal-fi red power plant included the Centre of Environmental Rights, Earthlife Africa, Just Share, GroundWork, Earthjustice as well as community-based organisations and individuals.
