Nav Nirman Deeksha Dr B.M.C.Reddy, Vice Chancellor along with University Offi-cers and Staff taken oath on the occasion of 'Nav Nirman Deeksha' at Administrative Office, Venkataramannagudem on 2nd June, 2016. Nav Nirman Deeksha is a programme launched by Government of Andhra Pradesh to make peo-ple partners in overall development of the state, post bifur-cation and it aims at motivating people to rededicate them-selves to the task of reconstruction of the state. Under the programme, Staff and students of constituent Colleges, Research Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the University also have taken oath for reconstruction of the state and to work towards its development.

Annual zonal workshop of KVKs of zone-V Annual zonal workshop for Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Zone-V was conducted at Dr.YSRHU Campus Venkataramannagudem from 02nd to 04th June, 2016. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-Chancellor. Dr.Y.G.Prasad, Director, ATARI, Hyderabad, Dr.Raja Reddy, Director of Extension, AN-GRAU, Dr.Jamuna Rani, Director of Extension, PJTSAU, Dr.Virojirao, Director of Extension, P.V.Narasimha Rao Telan-gana State Veterinary University, Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.YSRHU and Dr.Bhave, Director of Extension, BSKKV, Dapoli have participated and addressed about the role of KVKs in area all development strengthening of farming com-munity. Programme Coordiantors of 78 KVKs participated and presented the work done and significant achievements during 2015-16 and taken the valuable suggestions from the experts participated in the workshop. Dr.A.K.Singh, DDG (Agril.Extn), ICAR attended the valedictory function as chief guest and appreciated the efforts made by KVKs of Zone-V to reach the targets of the soil health card distri-bution and other flagship programmes like Kisan Sammelan, Pradhan Manthri Fasal Bhima Yojana etc., Sri Chiranjeev Chowdhary, IFS, Commissioner of Horticulture also participated in the valedictory and stressed the need to focus on horticul-tural crops through KVK technological interventions to achieve double digit growth in agriculture. Booklet on ‘Impact of technological interventions of KVK, Venkataramannagudem in adopted vil-lage : Telikacharla, West Godavari’ was also released on this occasion. Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-chancellor felicitated the dignitaries during the session.

Inaguration of Office & Farmers Hostel buildings Office and Farmers Hostel buildings of KVK, Pandirimamidi were inaugurated on 04.06.2016 by Dr.A.K.Singh, Deputy Director General (Agril Extension), ICAR, New Delhi and Sri Chiranjeev Choudhary, I.F.S., Commissioner of Horticulture in the presence of Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, Dr.Y.G.Prasad, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-V, Officials of ITDA and University Officers. On this occasion three honey bee keeping units, two millet processing units (biscuits & bakery products), two rubber processing units, two leaf plate making units and ten goat units were distributed to tribal SHG groups and tribal farmers under Tribal Sub-Plan with financial assistance from ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad. Booklets on Cultivation practices of maize and sorghum was also released on this occasion.

Ms. A.Sumalatha, Ms. Hareeswari and Mr.P.D.Teja of HC&RI of Anantharajupeta got 23rd , 35th and 41st rank respectively in ICAR-JRF in Horticulture Science. A total of 34 stu-dents bagged ranks between 35 to 710 and are likely to get Non-JRF seats. Out of 34 students 18 students are from HC&RI, Venkataramannagudem and 16 students are from HC&RI, Anantharaju-peta. The Vice-Chancellor congratu-lated all the students and staff.

Research Palmyrah cookies Sri. P C Vengaiah, Scientist (FST), AICRP Plams (Palmyrah), HRS, Pandirimamidi developed health cookies which replaces 50% of Mida(Refined wheat flour) by palmyrah tuber flour and entire sugar replaced by palm syrup which is rich in fibre and iron with more nutritional values. IDM in papaya Smt. T. Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Plant Pathology), HRS, Anantharajupeta conducted AICRP experi-ment on Integrated management of papaya diseases and observed less incidence of papaya ring spot virus (PRSV) (18.33%) and collar rot (0%) in integrated management plot compared to farm-ers practice where 31.7% incidence of PRSV and 6.1% of collar rot in six months old papaya crop was noticed. Rejuvenation of guava orchard The old senile guava trees were headed back to the extent of 1.5 meter height above the ground level during June, 2015 at HRS, Anantharajupeta. The newly emerged shoots were allowed to grow up to a length of about 50 cm and these shoots were further pruned to about 50 per cent of its total length during December, 2015. In continuation of rejuvenation process, to promote fruiting in winter season and to check the fruiting in rainy season, shoot pruning (50%) was carried out during Ist fortnight of June, 2016 to facilitate emergence of new shoots.

Monitoring Visit Dr. B. M. C. Reddy, Vice Chancellor along with Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Direc-tor of Extension, Zonal Research Heads of Rayalaseema and Coastal Zone-II visited HRS, Anantharajupeta on 08.06.2016 and monitored the technical programme of work being carried out at HRS, Ananthara-jupeta.

Extension Training programmes Dr Syed Sadarunnisa, Assistant Professor (Horti), HC&RI, Anantharajupeta attended a on ‘Teega jaathi kuragayala saagu pai raithu sikshana karyakramam’ as a resource person at Regional Horti-cultural Training Institute, Chittoor on 02-06-2016. Sri D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Anantharajupeta attended Nav Nirman Deeksha on priority Sector conducted at District Collectorate office, Kadapa on 04-06-2016 and delivered a lecture on modern techniques in cultivation of papaya, mango, and banana .

KVK, Pandirimamidi organized a 3 day training programme on ‘Millet Value addition - Biscuit and Bakery product making’ to 20 tribal women SHG group members of Chinnabarangi and Musuru-milli villages of Rampachodavaram mandal from 07.06.2016 to 09.06.2016. Dr.E.Karunasree, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Venkata-ramannagudem attended the training programme as resource per-son and delivered a lecture on ‘Preparatory methods of value added products from millets like Biscuits & Bakary products’ & nutrition value of millets. Smt.Lakshmi, Sri Subbarao, Sri Nagabushanam, Master Trainees demonstrated the preparation of biscuits, egg & curry puffs, dilpasand, bread and bun with Jowar, ragi, korra, sajja, wheat with different composition and with different formulae. Sri K.V.N.Chakradharababu, I.A.S., Project Officer, ITDA, Sri P. Ravi Shetty, IAS, Sub Collector interacted with the trainees during the valedictory function and taken feed back from the participants. Smt T. Naga lakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Pathology) HRS, Anantharajupeta attended Nav Nirman Deek-sha on priority Sector conducted at District Collectorate office, Kadapa on 04-06-2016 and deliv-ered lecture on ‘Management of post harvest losses in papaya, mango and banana. Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Entomology), HRS, Anantharajupeta attended work shop on pro-duction, pre & post harvest technologies in mango and delivered lecture on “Integrated pest man-agement in mango” and also acted as judge in mango festival for mango exhibits on 10-06-2016 at Chittoor organized by Dept of Horticulture, Chittoor. Officers of the Department of Horticulture from Bangladesh were given hands on training on ‘Hybridization technique in coconut’ by Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort) at HRS, Ambajipeta as a part of International training programme on “Technological interven-tion and best practices for coconut hybridization” being organized by EEI, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad under the aegis of Department of Ag-riculture and Cooperation, GOI from 03.06.2016 to 04.06.2016. Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento) and Smt. E. Padma, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Ambajipeta attended interaction meeting with farmers on coconut and cocoa organized by Department of Horticul-ture at Z.P.H. School, Avidi, East Godavari district on 14.06.2016 as resource persons and delivered lectures on “Canopy management in Cocoa” and “Insect management in coconut and cocoa” respectively. Method demonstration Dr.E.Karunasree, Sr. Scientist & Head along with Sri K.Krishnakanth, SMA(Ento), KVK, Venkataramanangudem visited and observed the honey bee colonies of the trainee Sri. V.Gyana Prakash (under RKVY funds) on 14-06-2015 established at his own farm, Avupadu, Nala-jarla mandal W.G.dist and suggested to go for honey extraction and also demonstrated the method of honey extraction by using portable extractor in his field. The honey bee colonies were distributed by KVK, Venkataramannagudem under TSP.

General Visitors Dr. D.P.Waskar, Director of Research, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani, Maharastra visited the newly con-structed screen house for the maintenance of mother bud wood block at Citrus Research Station, Tirupati on 09.06.2016 and appreciated the efforts of Scientists in establishment and maintenance of the screen house.. Twenty five farmers from Nellore district along with Horticultural Of-ficer visited Citrus Research Station, Tirupati on 10.06.2016. Sci-entists of the research station explained about the research pro-grammes and also clarified the doubts of farmers on citrus cultivation. Senior Scientist & Heads of KVKs of Maharastra visited the Post Har-vest Technology Research Station, Venkataramannagudem on 04-6-2016. Dr. B. Prasanna Kumar, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head ex-plained about the functioning of various machinery at Fruit and Vegetable Processing Unit. Sri. A. Murali, IAS, Managing Director, TSSDCL along with Col. P.R.P. Raju, Estate Officer visited the Post Harvest Technology Research Sta-tion, Venkataramannagudem on 08-6-2016. Sri. D. Ramesh Naik , Re-search Associate (Hort) explained about the functioning of Integrated Pack House Unit. Dr. B. Prasanna Kumar, Principal Scientist (Hort) & Head, Post Har-vest Technology Research Station, Venkataramannagudem explained about the functioning of Ripening chamber, Low cost Ripening Unit, Multi Fruit and Vegetable Washer, Bottling and Capping Unit at Inte-grated Pack House Unit and Fruit and Vegetable Processing Unit to the B.Sc.(Ag) students of Agricultural College who visited the unit on 09-6-2016 National seminar Sri. P.C. Vengaiah, Scientist (Food Science and Technology), Horticul-tural Research Station, Pandirimamidi attended National seminar on "Neera and Palmgur Industry" organized by KVIC, Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India at Patna, Bihar from 5th to 6th June, 2016.
