Events Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanthi
Dr.Babu Jagjivan Ram’s 110th Birth anniversary was celebrated as
‘Samata Diwas’ on 05.04.2017 at Administrative Office, Dr YSRHU,
all the constituent Colleges, Research Stations and KVKs of the uni-
versity. Tributes were paid to Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram, popularly
known as Babuji, a national leader, freedom fighter, a crusader of so-
cial justice and an exceptionally gifted orator.
Ambedkar Jayanthi

Ambedkar Jayanthi was celebrated
on 14.04.2017 at the Administrative
Office to commemorate the 126th
birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambed-
kar and his contributions for the peo-
ple of India. University officers and
staff paid homage to the great leader at a special event organised. Ambedkar Jayanti was also cele-
brated at all the constituent colleges, Research Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the university.
Prizes along with certificates were given to the students from all the constituent colleges including
polytechnics who excelled in essay writing, elocution, singing competitions conducted by university
SC&ST cell on the eve of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar birth anniversary.

Exposure Visits
Students of Horticultural Polytechnic, Kalikiri and Horticultural Poly-
technic, Madakasira visited HRS, Anantharajupet and CoH, Ananthara-
jupet on 13.04.2017. Scientists explained about protected cultivation,
orchid cultivation and nursery production to the students.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Horti), College of Horticulture, An-
antharajupet arranged an exposure visit to the students of 3rd year
B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture to Tirupati on 12.04.2017 and showed vari-
ous parks to get exposed to different landscape designs and also to
nurseries to get acquainted with ornamental plants and their propa-
gation methods.
NSS Programme
On 02.04.2017, NSS volunteers of SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic,
Ramachandrapuram participated in immunization programme and
administered polio drops to 1,734 children on the occasion of Pulse
Polio programme and also distributed polio kits in different localities
of Ramachandrapuram.
Education
Vice-Chancellor’s Visit
Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor visited Horticultural Re-
search Station, Peddapuram along with Assistant Director of Horticul-
ture, Kakinada on 01.04.2017 and discussed about distribution of
quality planting material of cassava to farmers and Dr.M.Janaki, Scien-
tist (Hort.) briefed about the ongoing research activities.
Research
Pre-ZREAC Meetings
Pre – ZREAC meetings of all the three Zones were conducted during the fortnight under the Chair-
manship of concerned Zonal Research Heads. Scientists from various research stations of con-
cerned zones participated and presented the work done report of 2016-17 and tentative technical
programme of work for 2017-18.
Pest and Disease Survey
Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento.) and Dr. T. Rajasekharam, Sci-
entist (Pl. Path.), CRS, Tirupati carried out survey on new insect pests
and diseases of sweet orange and acid lime in Lingala, Vempalli, Ve-
mula, Pulivendula and Pendlimarri mandals of Kadapa district on
13.04.2017. The damage of thrips infesting leaf (20-30%) both in
main field and nursery, snow scales (10-15%), leaf miner (10-15%)
and citrus trunk borer (20-30%) in sweet orange were observed.
With respect to disease incidence, dry root rot (40-50%) and CYMV (50%) were noticed.

Germplasm Collection
Dr. P. Ashok, Scientist (Hort.) Horticultural Research Station,
V.R.Gudem visited Madiki village near Kadiyam of East Godavari Dist
on 10.04.2017. and identified two diverse genotypes of Jackfruit. The
fruit weight of one genotype is 48.2 kg with uniform shape while in an-
other genotype the fruit is small and gumless.
Evaluation of Potato Cultivars
Twenty potato hybrids supplied by CPRI, Shimla were evaluated during rabi,
2016-17 at Venkataramannagudem for yield and high temperature adaptation
traits by Sri. M. Paratpara Rao, Asst. Professor (GPBR) as a part of Ph.D pro-
gramme. Six hybrids were found promising with a marketable yield rang-
ing from to 7 to 10 t/ha. Some hybrids flowered and set seed thus paving way
for true potato seed production.
Extension Vocational Training
Thirty days “Gardeners Training Programme” was inaugurated by
Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research at HRS, Anantharajupet spon-
sored by Ministry of skill development & Entrepreneurship, Govt. of
India in collaboration with Department of Horticulture, AP on 20th
March, 2017. Forty five trainees from different districts of Andhra
Pradesh registered for this training programme. Scientists of HRS
and Teaching staff of CoH, Anatharajupet have delivered lectures on various aspects of gardening.
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Senior Scientist and Head imparted hands on training to the trainees.
Training Programmes
Six days training programme on “Nursery and Gardening, Organic
farming & Sustainable Agriculture Practices” from 11.04.2017 to
17.04.2017 is being organized at KVK, Venkataramannagudem to 25
B.Sc (BZC) students from Ch.S.D.St.Theresa's College for Women,
Eluru. Hands on training on propagation techniques of fruits, vegeta-
bles, flowers and ornamental crops was conducted for the trainees.
Dr. B. Srinivasulu, Senior Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Horticultural Re-
search Station, Anantapuramu attended one day farmers training pro-
gramme as resource person on “Dry land fruit crops” sponsored by
RKVY on 12.04.2017.
Dr. T. Suseela, Assistant Professor (Hort.), CoH, Venkataramanna-
gudem attended training program as a resource person at KVK,
V.R.Gudem and delivered a lecture on “Propagation techniques in
ornamental and flower crops” and also on Bonsai to the B.Sc
(Botany) students on 13.04.2017.

On 06.04.2017, training programme was conducted for farmers of
Musurimilli and Bhupathipalem to create awareness on “Cage Aquacul-
ture”. In this programme Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head and
Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Vet. Sci.), KVK, Pandirimamidi imparted training
to 43 tribal farmers.
Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta participated in one
day “Awareness programme on pests and diseases of coconut” and cre-
ated awareness on plant protection measures at T.Kothapalli and Katrenik-
ona villages organized by Department of Horticulture, Amalapuram on
04.04.2017.
On 13.04.2017, Sri G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Pandiri-
mamidi attended , one day training programme as technical resource
person on “Pests and disease management in cashew and mango” at
Barrimamidi village of Gangavaram mandal organized by ATMA and
addressed the farmers on IPDM in cashew and mango.
On 06.04.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted a field day on “Cashew
tea mosquito bug control and die-back disease management in
mango” sponsored by ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad under Tribal Sub-Plan-
2016 at Parimithadaka village of Yeleswaram mandal. In this programme
Dr. A.Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi addressed the
farmers about the activities under taken under TSP-2016 and KVK,
Pandirimamidi. Also spraying was undertaken in 50 acres of cashew and 50 acres of mango or-
chards. The farmers informed that with the sprayings in mango and cashew orchards in the previous
year has resulted in increased yields.
Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, Horticultural Research Station, V.R.Gudem delivered a
lecture on “Bio fertilizers and their application in Horticultural crops” and Dr.B.Ramesh Babu,
Scientist (Hort.), HRS, V.R.Gudem delivered a lecture on “Propagation techniques in various fruit
crops” on 13.04.2017 in the training programme on “Nursery and Gardening, Organic Farming &
Sustainable Agriculture” at KVK, V.R.Gudem on 15.04.2017.
On 10.04.2017, Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist (Vet. Sci.), KVK, Pandirimamidi
interacted with the farmers of Peddapuram mandal during their expo-
sure visit to KVK, Pandirimamidi. She explained about the management
practices to be followed in poultry. She also explained in detail about the
common diseases encountered by the poultry birds during different sea-
sons, their control and treatment practices.
Diagnostic Visits
On 10.04.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem visited groundnut field infested with peanut bud necrosis virus
(PBNV) at Telikicherla village and suggested to spray dimethoate @ 400 ml
or imidacloprid @ 80 ml or monocrotophos @ 320 ml/acre to control the
thrips which transmits the virus.

On 11.04.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento,), KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem visited ridge guard, ivy guard, bitter guard, bhendi and cucum-
ber fields under ICAR – TSP project entitled “Introduction of Improved
vegetable cultivation in tribal areas” infested with sucking pests and
suggested installation of yellow and blue sticky traps @ 15 per hectare
and foliar application of systemic insecticides.
On 12.04.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, V.R.Gudem vis-
ited coconut orchard infested with Rhinoceros beetle and suggested to
place chlorantraniliprole 4G @ 5-10g in perforated sachets @ 4 sachets
per plant. And also suggested to set up Rhino lure pheromone trap @ 5
traps/ha to trap and kill the beetles and field release of Baculovirus
oryctes inoculated adult rhinoceros beetles@15 beetles/ha to reduce the
leaf and crown damage caused by the beetle.
Dr.P.Ashok, Scientist (Hort.), Horticultural Research Station, V.R.Gudem vis-
ited ashgourd fields in Rajampeta mandal of Kadapa dist., and suggested
control measures for various pests and diseases during his interaction with
farmers on 03.04.2017.
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out field diagnostic visit to
Bhogapuram village and observed the incidence Rhinoceros beetle and suggested its control meas-
ures to the farmers on 03.04.2017.
On 11.04.2017, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head, Sri. P.RajaSekhar,
Scientist (SS&AC) and Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl.Path.), KVK,
Pandirimamidi visited sesamum (YLM-66) fields as follow up under
Cluster Front Line Demonstrations on Oil seeds in M. Ravilanka vil-
lage of Devipatnam mandal. During the visit scientists observed pow-
dery mildew and sesamum phyllody infection and the crop is at har-
vesting stage.
On 13.04.2017, Sri K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandiri-
mamidi visited sweet orange field at I. Polavaram village of Rampa-
chodavaram mandal and observed Gummosis. Recommended to fol-
low double ring system of irrigation, scrap out the infected stem por-
tion and apply 1% bordeaux paste or copperoxychloride, and two
sprayings with carbendazim @1g/l at an interval of 15 days.
FLDs
On 11.04.2017, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted a field day on Cluster
Front Line Demonstration - Oil seeds- Sesamum Var. YLM-66 sponsored
by ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad under NMOOP at I.Polavaram village of Ram-
pachodavaram mandal. In this programme Dr. A.Srinivas, Sr. Scientist &
Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi addressed the farmers about the activities un-
der taken under NMOOP to promote cultivation of oil seeds-Sesamum
(YLM-66) in an area of 75 acres in the agency area of Rampachodavaram division. Conducted tech-
nical session and farmers-scientist interaction on cultivation practices and pest & diseases of seas-
mum followed by sesamum field visit at I.Polavaram village.

General Annual day celebrations
Dr. M. Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture and Dr.
A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs participated in the 3rd college
day celebrations of SSPG Horticulture Polytechnic, Madakasira
on 11.04.2017 and distributed prizes to the winners in games
and sports. Also distributed prizes to the winners of essay writ-
ing, elocution and solo singing competitions conducted to the
students on the eve of 126th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar.
ELP modules
Dr. M. Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited ELP mod-
ules at CoH, Venkataramannagudem on 05.04.2017 and CoH, Ananthara-
jupet on 14.04.2017 to review the implementation of the modules.
Coaching Cell
Dr. K. Gopal, Controller of Examinations, Dr.Y.S.R.HU visited CoH, Anantharajupet campus on
03.04.2017 and interacted with the final year students. Assured the students for provision of better
coaching classes in all the constituent colleges by establishing Coaching cell at the University head
office and by monitoring the activities at frequent intervals
Technical Inspections
On 04.04.2017, Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head, Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist
(Vet. Sci.), KVK, Pandirimamidi and Sri. B.Padmakar, Tata Trust & Techni-
cal advisor of Andhra Pradesh and Area Co-ordinator visited Bhupathi-
palem and Musurumilli reservoirs for site selection and for starting cage
aquaculture project.
Workshops, Meetings and Trainings
On 06.04.17 and 07.04.2017 Sri P Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC) , KVK,
Pandirimamidi attended Divisional Level Discussion on Kharif Action
Plan 2017 at Rajamahendravaram organized by Department of Agricul-
ture, East Godavari dist.
Dr. T. Suseela, Assistant Professor (Hort.), Dr. K. Sasi Kala, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) and Dr. A.
Harsha Vardhan, Assistant Professor (Hort.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended three days
training programme on “Municipal Waste Management” at APHRD, Bapatla from 06.04.2017 to
08.04.2017.
Farmer Exposure Visits
D. Aparna, Scientist (Hort.), Horticultural Research Station, V.R.Gudem
explained about various medicinal and aromatic plants at herbal garden
on 12.04.2017 to the farmers from Peddapuram .
