Second Collection Next Weekend for the Priest Retirement and Seminarian Education Fund. Your support to the collection provides care for our retired priests and education for our future priests. To learn more, please visit www.yakimadiocese.net.

Dear Parishioners:

The Church will go on forever, but church buildings seem to require fixing now and then! I want you to be in on some of our most recent projects. The old con-vent (Youth Center) heating /air conditioning machines just stopped working! We are having to spend $8,200+ on that. The stucco on our church building must be re-done (because of leaks). The cost is $7,000. We are making a temporary fix to the front church steps for $1,300. (The future replacement cost will be nearly $90,000).

We are doing these projects without asking for more funds; however, the time will come soon enough when we will have to ask your help with other similar types of expenses: the church roof & the school roof, for exam-ple. Just saying…..

Thanks for all you do!

Father Tom

Many blessings to our dads, grand-dads, step-dads, uncles, father figures, and to our Frs. Tom, Dan, Juan and Van!

Thank You for your generous support of last week-end’s Peter’s Pence collection!

"The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower. All who come to him will live forever." Jn 12:31B-32

In today's Gospel Jesus compares the kingdom of God to a tiny mustard seed, hidden in the earth, quietly sprouting and growing until becomes a tree large enough to provide shade for the birds in its branches. It's a hopeful parable, which helps us to realize that even the tiniest, hidden efforts we make for the king-dom of God can grow in the same way.

Those who seek to do God's work must trust in His help to make it fruitful. Because we walk by faith and not by sight in this world, we may not see the harvest, but we must not become discouraged. Instead we must, hope, pray, and faithfully do our small part, scattering the seed of God's word far and wide. If just one of those seeds takes root, it can become the large branching tree that provides shade and shelter, providing season-ing for life, and producing new seed for the next plant-ing.

Jesus Himself gives us the example of how we are to spread the Good News. He showed us the way, when He became the grain of wheat that fell into the earth and died to produce the bread of eternal life. His disciples are called to follow Him to the cross and martyrdom, rather than to earthly glory and power. In the same way, His Church grew in darkness and obscurity, perse-cuted and maligned, to form a great, branching tree that provides shelter for the faithful.

It rumored that Pope Benedict XVI once said, "I have a mustard seed, and I'm not afraid to use it." If we have faith even the size of a mustard seed, we must not be afraid to scatter a multitude of tiny seeds in as many fields as we can, with prayer and trust that God will take it from there and use our small efforts to produce abundant fruit for the Kingdom.

Carmelite Corner

Looking back to Pentecost, we can pray and reflect of-ten on the Sequence sung before the Gospel: Come, O Holy Spirit, Come (Veni Sancte Spiritus)

Where you are not, we have naught, Nothing good in deed or thought, Nothing free from taint of ill.

Heal our wounds, our strength renew; On our dryness pour your dew; Wash the stains of guilt away; Bend the stubborn heart and will; Melt the frozen, warm the chill; Guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful, who adore and confess you, evermore In your seven-fold gift descend; Give them virtue’s sure reward; Give them your salvation, Lord; Give them joys that never end. Amen. Alleluia

For information about the Lay Carmelites, contact Rebecca Moak at 509-460-1608.

Spiritual Practices

Ignatian Spirituality

Those who practice Ignatian Spirituality have been taught and have embraced discernment, so they can discover what God wants for our lives, and then to pro-ceed to do what they feel called to do. Pope Francis suggests, “Expose oneself, to go out of the world of one’s convictions and prejudices and open oneself to understand how God is speaking to us, today, in this world, in this time, in this moment, and how he speaks to me now.” This is the beauty of discernment, and of the Spiritual Exercises. We invite you to grow stronger in your faith life, your prayer life, and discernment of God’s will in your life by participating in the Spiritual Exercises in the Fall.

The Spiritual Exercises will start a new session in September. We invite you to join us. To register, email or call for an application or download one from http://spiritual-exercises.com. For questions, call Ellen at 628-8626 or email [email protected]. Para español, llame a Cesar - 943-1050.

Eucharistic Devotion

Benedictine Spirituality: Our small group meets on the third Thursday of the month, this time on June 21 at noon in the parish library. We read and reflect upon the Holy Rule and commentary, and conclude with litur-gical prayer. We welcome you as Christ! For more information, contact Joyce at 375-1308.

Franciscan Spirituality

The Secular Franciscan Order was established by St. Francis of Assisi more than 800 years ago. Our purpose is to bring the Gospel to life where we live and where we work. We look for ways to embrace the Gospel in our lives and try to help others to do likewise. The local Holy Trinity Fraternity meets two or three times a month. For more information about the local Secular Franciscans, contact Bob Fitzsimmons OFS at [email protected] or 509-521-9387.

Evening prayers for peace are said in the chapel on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. Prayers from the breviary are led by members of the Social Justice and Peace Com-mittee. In a world rampant with violence, Pope Francis calls us to follow the nonviolent way of Jesus. Can you spare a half-hour before dinner?
