-Fray Peter Scagnelli, © JS Paluch Co

Jubilee Year

of Mercy

Mercy is one thing, malpractice quite another. Why, then, does the defrauded master in Jesus’ parable praise the devious steward? Jesus shows by example how to sanctify material goods: by placing all our

resources, indeed our very selves, at the service of others. No matter how costly such service, or how minimal the return, such charity is the wisest investment, yielding a reward that is literally out of this world. For Amos and Jesus, authentic worship of God demands practical charity toward our neighbor. Paul, too, declares that the only worship acceptable to God is offered by a community rich in charity. Liturgy must be matched to life, “lifting up holy hands, without anger or argument” (1 Timothy 2:8). This Jubilee Year of Mercy challenges us to live as “children of light,” as devoted to self-sacrificing service as “the children of this world” (Luke 16:8) are to serving themselves, as enthusiastic for God’s kingdom of justice as we are about less-enduring treasures.

TOGETHER, We Plan the Future

As we have nearly completed the first stage of our program, “Together, We Plan the Future of St Andrew”, we want to outline the steps beyond.

Step 1 - In sessions led by Dr. Lori Garkovich we gathered input from the Parishioners. To be completed by 25 September.

Step 2 - Evaluate the raw data provided by Dr. Garkovich within the six questions asked. Complete by 15 October.

Step 3 - Set up sessions to prioritize the data: time for implementation over the next three years and resources needed. This will be led by the Finance and Parish Councils. If you want to be a part of the process, let Pete Chiericozzi know. Complete by 1 November.

Step 4 - Present a draft of the Proposal to the Parish for comments and finalize draft. Complete by 15 November

Step 5 - Present the Proposal to Father Al for his comment and acceptance. Complete by 25 November

Step 6 - Roll out the Plan on 30 November, the parish patronal Feast of Saint Andrew.

Step 7 - Action plan to implement the steps recommended to and accepted by Father Al. Complete by 31 December.

St. Andrew Catholic Church Week of September 18 - September 24, 2016 5

We are asking everyone in the parish to start thinking about how they can contribute to make this a successful bazaar. This year, we are asking each of you to craft an item, make some ornaments, and/or put together a theme basket.

We would like for these things to be made at home individually, as a family, or get together in small groups. Then bring in your donations starting October 20th.

There will be forms in the foyer for you to sign up for baskets. We will be happy to offer theme ideas. Also, we will be available to assist you if you gather your items and need help putting the basket together. We are in need of handmade ornaments, wreaths, and donations for both the raffle and silent auction.

We will also be doing a children’s table where items will be available for children to purchase gifts for their parents and siblings. Contributions for this table would be greatly appreciated.

Contacts: Warren Jackson 859-247-0673 Pat Isaman 859-748-5433 (Not available Sept. 1-Oct. 10) Darlene Holt 859-325-1655

We will also need volunteers for the Bazaar itself as well as workers for the Luncheon.

At our last meeting we decided to read How's Your Faith: An Unlikely Spiritual Journey by David Gregory, the former NBC reporter and moderator of Meet the Press. This book is

"a thoughtful, introspective, and moving account of Gregory's life, family, and beliefs, including his struggles with his mother's alcoholism, with interfaith marriage, with anger (over losing his job at NBC), with God.” (The Washington Post) When he was a reporter at the White House, President George W. Bush asked him, "Gregory, how's your faith?" In writing this book David Gregory realized that perhaps his story will inspire others to examine their lives and seek answers to that same question.

We will divide the reading into three sections and meet on Monday, October 3, 10, and 17 for discussion. The cost will be approximately $12.00 each. If you would like to be added to the list or if you would like to host one of the meetings, please contact Mickie Noel at (859) 734-9563 or (859) 325-6532.
